Yes you're right badders , simple snobbery in most cases. DSis's DC stayed in their local school & did very nicely there.

A local mum who moved here at the same time as us, justified sending her son private as there were 'no places at local primaries'. Er, there were. There were 6 places in DS's class . Obv the school wasn't good enough to even consider.

Right, ought to get busy. Am off on holiday later, back mid-week, no internet 'til then. (Mis)Behave whilst I'm away & enjoy the hols!

Morning all. Minty fuck her. Ofsted is a necessary but misguided evil and no match for gut feeling in my experience. My idea of outstanding and Ofsted idea of outstanding are quite different to be honest.

Last official day at work here .... and when i am back from holiday I will be 'temping' here for handover and have demanded negotiating a stonking hourly rate that has made me extremely happy for what is going to amount to 6-9 days work.

Just can't wait to go on holiday now. Just spoke to my dad and he said it is hot and the sea is beautiful.

Oh, and on the subject of --fecking- OFSTED, DD's school went into special measures when she was in reception year. Loads of people removed their children instantly and said to me, "but you're a teacher, surely you don't want your children here"!!!! My reply, "if you read the report, you'll find that the main problem is with management, DD is happy and settled and making the right amount of progress, moving her would be foolish and this school is now going to get a high level of financial support and intervention." She then went on to get outstanding SAts results. OFSTED is necessary but doesn't tell the whole story.

Today I have taken ds2 swimming (ds1 tagging along), dropped ds2 at nursery, taken ds1 for hot chocolate in Costa, dropped off ds1 with DrIssy where he will be expanding the boundaries of Science!, come home, phoned my folks for an hour and not moved from the sofa

May do some tiding up later. Am not doing any laundry - too wet here.

Re schools (following on from mrsE, Anne and flops): there may be good reasons to send kids on two buses than aren't snobbery (e.g. I went to a school an hour away because it was the only co-ed and co-religious school around, everything else was strictly either RC or Prods) but local schools are the way to go if possible. We didn't go with our local to home primary school but our local to work primary school about a mile away as then we can pop down for assemblies etc much easier. That said ds1's primary school was given a 3 last Ofsted (down from a 2 with some 1s, again mainly due to management, headteacher took eye off ball as occupied with recruitment as several senior members of staff were retiring, but new depart head and HT make a good team and everything seems back on track again). DrIssy has had inside knowledge as he's a governor and he doesn't have much to say about OFSTED and their use of stats that's favourable.

Issy I think having your DC near work makes great sense. I work in the same school as my little DS and big DS is just moving up.
