It's DS last day at summer school. He's loved it. We've had no melt downs and it's really boosted his confidence. This is why he picked this school over grammar. He felt better there and for him that's important. They will have an IEP in place for him and extra support.

Has ds1 got an iPod? Get him to put his on and stand there together saying "We can't hear you soz" and (Even better if your DH will do this as well)

Ok, so you turn your back and he does whatever. When you are finished etc quietly go and remove (whatever it is or him from or by switching it off) say nothing except a repeat if what you've already said and walk off as he follows you shouting etc etc. deliberately pay attention to ds1 which encourages him as well, because it's all attention seeking at the end if the day.

Maybe try to deflect by offering something else he can do (maybe even together) Shrug if/when he refuses or whatevs and be all meh, whatevs. IPOD.

Eva - we got a few faces when we didn't put DS1 in for exams for a private school. Regardless of the fact that we have no way of realistically paying the fees (oh, you'll get a bursary no problem I bet), and the travel involved with us both working (just stick him on the bus or - my personal favourite - can you not get a different job to suit), I don't think it would have been the right thing for him. It would have been massively long days for him and all the extra-curricular extra money stuff wouldn't have been feasible. It wasn't the right fit for him or us as a family. He's just finished Y8. He's top/nearly top in most subjects and did massively well at the end of year awards evening. He has friends and he enjoys it. So, I think we made the right decision.

Eva....when I moved ds1 from an ofsted rated outstanding school to an satisfactory one I lost people i thought were friends too...
Not sure what they thought of my appearance but they made it clear I was on my own after my decision.

Oh God letus, what a nightmare . I agree with everyone else re the ignoring etc (not sure I could manage it at that time of the morning though). DS can be like a dog with a bone too, not so bad now he's older luckily. Humour could sometimes break the cycle with him. If he kept repeatedly asking for something I would pretend to be thinking about it and reply with a comedy 'Er.....no.' Next request would be interrupted mid sentence with the same and so on, letting him say less & less of the sentence until I was saying no as soon as he opened his mouth. Not recommended if he was close to losing his temper mind as it can be inflammatory if he doesn't get the joke!

Ds3 is a screecher, shouter, sneaky fecker. Ds1 is like a dog with a bone and won't let anything go IySWIM? They were really 'good' quiet easy babies. The three louder more confident ones aren't as much trouble some how.
I bet some one has something interesting wrt psychology about that.

I put mine in the local town primary much to the disgust of lots of people. Although I had no choice, I was happy with it, figured they'd all probably end up at the same high school and it would be good for them to have more of a mix of people. Not that there's much diversity here mind. Fucking shit hole.

Wherever we have lived DC have gone to the local school....ok it didn't work out too well first time round but both DC seem happy and are progressing so...you know..that's pretty much my only criteria for choosing a school.
I know people who send their kids on 2 buses and take them away from their friends to get into certain schools.
Very odd, and in many cases I know of, just simple snobbery.
