When DM was pregnant a collegue kept calling her bump XXXX YYYY - so I am called XXXX YYYY. Then the registrar spelt it the way that it is spelt now.

Nice to know my parents had a great input into my name!!!

Sugarfree · 07/11/2006 18:01

Ds1-named after a friend.(middle name is an old family name on Dh's side)
Ds2-named after a character in a novel.(middle name,no idea,just like it)
Ds3-named after my dad.(middle name,again no idea)

ComeOVeneer · 07/11/2006 18:03

dd's name is simply one we both agreed on.
ds's name is my late paternal granfather's and dh's late paternal grandfather's names.

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 07/11/2006 18:05

ds - dp liked the short form of his name, I quite liked the long form of his name...and it was the only name that we agreed on, with dp tugging for Martin and me for Otto . He got off very lightly, really.

dd-we chose it on a boat in norway before we'd even decided to have kids. We naturally assumed that we'd have a girl first.

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 07/11/2006 18:06

oh ds's middle name is dp's name and also an old family name, dd's middle name is my mum's and my and my grandmas and so on's name.

christ knows what we'll do if we have another one.

twelveyeargap · 07/11/2006 18:07

I wanted an Irish name. Went through a book until I found one I liked. There were hardly any irish girls names I liked. Doing the same for the one that's on the way, though will find one that's fairly easy to spell now that we live in the UK. No non-Irish person can pronounce DD's name on first sight, except for the Basque lady in the dentist's office, which was a bit mad, but very nice.

tortoise · 07/11/2006 18:09

DS1 A name i liked.(Middle name,same as my youngest brother)
DS2 Another name i liked.(middle name,A friends son who died many years ago would of been her only son)
DD1 what DS2 would of been if had been a girl.(middle name, what DS1 would of been if a girl)
DD2 Starts with a Y,Chosen because DS2 starts with Z,DD1 starts with X.So they are x y and z! (middle name one i liked)

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/11/2006 18:10

DS1's first name was chosen by DH (we agreed to each choose a list of names we like - me English ones, him Zimbabwean ones) then we'd look at each others lists and agree on two that we both like and that fitted together.

He wanted a boy to be shortened to "Taf" which gave him two options - Tafadzwa (which is really common - bit like "josh" or "jack" in the UK LOL) or Tafara - less common. So we opted for that one. Then I'd initally chosen Liam......but later on realised it was the Irish form of William - and we didn't want any 'family' connections in the names we'd chosen. William is probably the most common name that has ever been put with my maiden name so Liam was out - ended up with Yehudi in the end!

DS2 - DH chose both the names as I was in so much shock I couldn't get my head round thinking of names - and I liked his idea of Tongai Scott.

For DC3 I the girls name was still agreed on from my 2nd pg. And DH chose a boys name (Zimbabwean - and starting with T....well we'd started a trend so figured we may as well follow it LOL) and I chose a boys one - so we've ended up with Takunda Miles.

Since DS was born in Denmark to English mother (me) and Brazilian father (DH) we decided it had to be a name that worked in many languages. We finally setteled on one which is actually a family name. When we moved to Italy it worked well there too so we knew we'd made the right choice.

PinkTulips · 07/11/2006 18:39

with dd's name it just popped into both our heads on the same day and when we learned it meant princess we decided it must be meant to be.... her middle name means 'fathers joy'

with ds my dp suggested the name (actually i was reading every single boys name aloud from the book and it was the only one he didn't hate!) it means bold impetuous one and we liked that. the name grew on me the more i heard it and it suits him down to the ground. his middle name is the name i wanted to call him!

all of their names are hebrew and the meanings are very important to me.

my dad had picked my name before he ever met my mother. hes always had a fascination with ireland and read the celtic story with my name in it in school and loved it, then went and married the first irish woman he met!

mustrunmore · 07/11/2006 18:42

DS is named after a Swedish footballer

Pinkchampagne · 07/11/2006 19:05

DS1 is named after my dad.
DS2's name is a name I loved & one that we both agreed on. It did become a little over-popular after he was born though, as a popular character in Eastenders had the same name.
I still love the name though & it suits him perfectly!

me23 · 07/11/2006 19:09

My mum died from lung cancer when I was 8 weeks pregnant with dd (my first and only child) so as a tribute to mum I named dd after a river that flows through the city where mum was born and brought up. She also has mums name as a middle name.

sweetkitty · 07/11/2006 19:09

DD1's name has always been my name for a girl I have loved the name since I was a little girl, middle name is my Grans name (Abigail Sadie)

DD2's name we hadn't a clue what to call her then I found her name in a book and just loved it her middle name was my second choice name (Talia Erin)

If we ever have another DD we will be well snookered for a name, will need to have a boy so we can use our boys name lol.

Come on everyone else let us know your names I'm dying to know from the descriptions.

Ds1 - name taken from a name book! Middle name = dh's middle name and his father's middle name so a bit of a tradition.

Ds2 - name taken from a name book although it is similar to my maiden name - I like that old tradition of naming a son with the mother's maiden name. Middle name = my grandfather's name and ds2 was born 100 years and 2 days after my grandfather so I wanted to make that gesture.

Dd - name taken from a character in the Archers! . Middle name = a similar name to my great aunts.

Ds3 - both first and second names taken from a name book. First name was my choice and middle name was dh's choice.

I wanted a Jewish name (although neither of us is Jewish) and we also wanted one Asian name, probably a middle name, as we were both given one Asian one non-Asian name at birth. Both Inferiorettes have a Jewish first name; DD1 has a Muslim second name on account partly of DP's dead Muslim dad; DD2 has my sister's Hindu name as her second name partly as a complicated family joke and partly because I thought she might be born on my sister's birthday. (In fact she was born on my mother's birthday and should logically have my mother's Hindu name as her second name, but frankly as I was so bombed on gas'n'air when I gave birth that I thought she had testicles, she's lucky we didn't call her Fred.)

JoolsToo · 07/11/2006 19:18

dd and ds1 were easy - I wanted strong, traditional names that didn't date. Ds2 was more difficult as there aren't many boys names I like, but there weren't/aren't loads of his name around. Luckily all 3 like their names.

Oh no, I didn't! How interesting.

skerriesmum · 07/11/2006 19:22

Ds was named for a saint who crossed the Atlantic from Ireland, to reflect his Canadian and Irish heritage... (Brendan!) His middle name is my maiden name.
We know that #2 is another boy and he'll be named for a favourite uncle, with the middle name my dad's name.

DizzyBint · 07/11/2006 19:23

dd named after a character in a book. her middle name is a family name. she also has my maiden name as a second middle name. dh and i both took my maiden name as a second middle name when we married.
