I have given up on the idea of food shopping this evening. Have opened instead.

We don't really have any Christmas traditions. This will be the first Christmas of just me and the dcs so I'm looking forward to starting some . I only consider I have Christmas every other year - it simply isn't the same without the dcs about. I usually go to a friends house but I'd like to have the cash to go somewhere fabulous.

The accident in Glasgow is terrible. You're right lyndie - never a good time but Christmas does seem very unfair.

Christmas Eve - I'm at work until 12.30 at Scrooge McDuck Enterprises, DH is home with the DC. Lazing in the afternoon, wrapping the DC's presents after they've both gone to bed. They leave a letter to Father Christmas, water and carrots for the reindeer, biscuits and Stella Artois for Father Christmas. DS2 still believes but I think this will be his last year. He asked me the other night when talking about what to leave out for FC "daddy likes beer and biscuits too, doesn't he mummy?"

All the wench food looks and sounds delicious.

I make Delia's mincemeat....I generally add several pints more spirit than she recommends, and a load of extras like sour cherries, prunes etc. It's bloody delicious. In fact I found a jar in the cupboard this year and I can't remember making it, so it must be a couple of years at least.....even better.

BIL is still in ICU, sedated and ventilated. CT shows no changes thank goodness. They're going to try and wake him up tomorrow. Unfortunately DSis lives miles away....near the 1950s, and with mum up here she's got no support network locally not that mum would be particularly supportive. It's tricky to know what to do for the best because I can't go without baby elk, but baby elk wouldn't be allowed in ICU, so we all go or none of us do. I'll wait to see how he is in the morning.

I've just seen what happened in Glasgow....how awful

at Scrooge McDuck Enterprises LetUs. I'm aiming to see The Hobbit tomorrow now, post rodding and pre-dcs.

Both my two have claimed in the last weeks they don't believe . I'm not having that - the youngest is only 5. Mind you, the oldest decided, totally unprompted, that he is an atheist whilst in year 1 so I think I'm swimming against the tide trying to get the sparkle and magic back.

Off to prod a chicken kiev.

Elk - hope all improves tomorrow.

Wicked - we only do under tree presents and basically open in the morning then go to my parents for more presents before lunch, then eat and chat, sometimes play games etc. We eat various meats that are not Turkey, this year we are having quails (my favourite ever) along with other small birds - maybe partridges, guinea fowl or similar, tbh DH didn't pull his finger out so it will be what's left that isn't chicken. Christmas Eve is the best though, new pjs all round which they love.

DS2 doesn't believe but today was going on about leaving fruit for the elves because my work Santa told him they like fruit. I questioned him
And he said well maybe it was still true. I think he is worried about letting go completely. DS1 is emphatic that Santa is real.

Balls, that should be recording and it's not. Have pressed record now though.
