oh you were being sarcastic????!!

risingsun · 26/09/2006 14:04

we need a sarcastic emoticon nailpolish

catsmother · 26/09/2006 14:05

I love Top Gear - and RH, but do think an award of some description would be silly. Really silly.

Can the regular Top Gear viewers even begin to imagine what mileage (no pun intended) would be made of something like that by Jeremy and James ??

The only reward/award RH needs (and would probably want, being a down to earth chappy) is a speedy recovery and the opportunity to go back to doing what he loved (if that is still what he wants to do).

I thought JC's article in the ST was brilliant, likewise the Sun.

jazzyfax · 26/09/2006 14:16

OK definately not a knighthood then.

What about a special award?

NomDePlume · 26/09/2006 14:18

No award at all !

I always add the emoticon to a post when I'm being sarky (all the bloody time)

Bozza · 26/09/2006 14:20

What is he getting awarded for? Crashing a car? How many thousands of people have done that?

nailpolish · 26/09/2006 14:28

i need an emoticon for sarcasm cos i wouldnt know it if it jumped out of my soup

i always rise to it

CheesyFeet · 26/09/2006 14:33

An award??? Madness. You are all loonies.

He is cute, funny, has a lovely wife and kids and has been in a horrible accident. All interesting I'm sure but hardly awardworthy. Perhaps if he spends the next 10 years after his recovery raising money for air ambulances or whatever.

katierocket · 26/09/2006 14:45

Yes an award for what exactly?!

fattiemuma · 26/09/2006 14:49

I have been watching this conversation about an award for Richard Hammond, I will make my contribution.

I agree that a Knighthood may be to much, but an OBE would be acceptable.

I have spoken. Can we now go on to something else.

An award? Definately not. I've been watching this thread as rh's accident has stirred up memories for me of dh's brain surgery a couple of years ago.

In terms of brain injury it seems to me that RH has gotton off relatively lightly (as did my dh, although his recovery was longer than RH's) . There are people in neurology wards up and down the country struggling with far more significant injuries, if anyone deserves an award it's them. RH doesn't deserve one merely for being famous and having survived.

Twiglett · 26/09/2006 15:13

Are you mad ? an award?

Twiglett · 26/09/2006 15:14

I'm sure he's a very nice man and all that .. I'm sure he's a great presenter

but I am honestly of the opinion that my DH should get an award before a TV presenter

He also has small children but didn't go and do something reckless and somewhat dangerous and put his life in danger ,.... no he didn't get the thrill .. he just gets up, gets kids ready and goes to work

an award ...

willow2 · 26/09/2006 17:00

An award for mobilising the trolls? Definitely achieved that.

Flossam · 28/09/2006 13:57

ohhhh - he's now in my local private hospital - the only time in my life when i wished i was a nurse in a private hospital...

Furball · 28/09/2006 14:23

Flossom - The stories I've read said an undisclosed hospital

edam · 28/09/2006 15:33

Top Gear already has an award - they won a Bafta or Palm d'Or or something for 'best non-scripted programme' which made everyone laugh as they do have a script, obv.

fattiemumma · 28/09/2006 15:39

dont know who FATTIEMUMA IS...but it isnt me!

this is the only thread i have noticed that name on so hopefully it was just a troll.

anyway....no i dont think he deserves an award of any kind..the hospital staff, the air ambulance and the Doctors who treat him DO!

Flossam · 28/09/2006 15:42

twas on our local news furball - fair bit of detail and he dosen't live far from here so would be correct.

Furball · 28/09/2006 15:45

Was it news read by wesley and hannah?

As thats my local news too

Flossam · 28/09/2006 15:49

dosen't ring any bells - points west/htv region.

Furball · 28/09/2006 16:16

ah - I'm Central South

hulababy · 29/09/2006 09:13

Update and from yesterday

Suggestions here that he could be back to his near normal self in weeks, and fine entirely by 6 months. Amazing recovery for such a horrific accident, and especially considering ealry reports.
