If there are more important things to discuss, can I suggest you join another thread and discuss some of them? This thread is about the horrible accident a very popular TV presenter was in last week and our thoughts and concerns for him and his family.

zippitippitoes · 25/09/2006 16:10

I think also it is a great endorsement and reflection on the incredible achievements of medical practice which coupled with the air ambulance getting him to hospital quickly have made his recovery possible..not so long ago he would not have lived after such an injury.

iota · 25/09/2006 16:11

did anybody read Clarksons article in the ST

Mascaraohara · 25/09/2006 16:20

What a fantastic article.

robin3 · 25/09/2006 16:26

Strange article in my opinion. Of course he took a risk because he loves his job and pointing blame is pretty pointless BUT the tone of this article comes across to me like he's a very worried man because his programme might suffer and as usual he's pointing the blame squarely at the environmental do-gooders.

willow2 · 25/09/2006 16:30

I thought it was a good read.

fattiemumma · 25/09/2006 16:38

fab article.

and i just had to smile at the last sentance

hulababy · 25/09/2006 16:41

I quite liked the article. Sounds like a bloke talking about his mate, and defending his right to take such risks for his job and his passion.

expatinscotland · 25/09/2006 16:41

Good article.

CarlyP · 25/09/2006 16:47

fab article. brilliant in fact.

iota · 25/09/2006 16:52

I thought the same Hula

Blandmum · 25/09/2006 17:00

Ah, now we see the second way that people try to get out of 'I've been a bit of an arsehole but don't have the balls to admit it' situation.

They try the old, 'I have done this as part of a cunning plan to show you all how stupid you are and how clever I am'

Yawn, Kolin. Why not go away and amuse yourself somewhere else.

Your 'intelect' fails to impress

Joolstoo · 25/09/2006 17:23

that article is fab!

am particularly in tune with this para -

"But of course, we have a whole industry nowadays designed to do just that. To ensure that nobody ever falls over, that nobody ever hurts themselves, that nobody ever dies. And that if someone does, then the system must have failed and a head must roll . ."

and this

"The Guardian has been a bit humbled."

fullmoonfiend · 25/09/2006 17:26

Now he's not going to die, please can I share something I thought was verry funny?

See left hand side, 5th item down on best of the boards

Gobbledigook · 25/09/2006 17:29

Great article!

I do love JC

tribpot · 25/09/2006 19:06

Interesting to see the overlap between this and the Sun article - does JC write it once and hacks on the relevant papers tailor it to their audience?!

sockmonkey · 25/09/2006 19:27

I liked it too. You can't blame the guy for writing two similar articles though, he has been at the hospital visiting our little Hamster.

Macdog · 25/09/2006 19:32

fullmoonfiend. agree i wouldn't have laughed before i knew he was getting better, but am now ROFL as is dh. hope i'm not going to hell

fattiemumma · 25/09/2006 19:35

i think its funny, but only because you just know that Hamster would too

fullmoonfiend · 25/09/2006 21:39

yeah, I wouldn't have posted it but he so would laugh at it! And it was done with affection...

tinypoppet · 26/09/2006 08:29

It is clear from these pages we all love Richard Hammond, he is popular. He is a wonderful man and has been a major force in raising money for charity.

Thankfully he is still alive and making a recovery; so he can't be made a saint (that is a joke, of course.) But a knighthood is possible.

He contributes to the motor industry in this country, he does a lot for charity and is a genuine hero...so why not?

So far I have raised a petition of 210 names and hope to get more. If anyone here is interested let me know or, alternatively, talk to your local MP or raise your own petition. Together we can make this work and get Richard the reward and recognition he deserves.

Thankyou.

jazzyfax · 26/09/2006 13:20

I agree that Richard Hammond should be given an award, or at least some form of recognition. Isn't a knighthood a little ambitious? Perhaps a OBE is more apt.

Whatever, you have my support 100 per cent and I'm sure I speak for everyone on this forum.

Arise Sir Hamster !

TaraPalmerTomkinsonsNose · 26/09/2006 13:20
