...whilst filming for Top Gear. Saw it on BBC3 news , something about it here .

I know he has lots of admirers on here

and i agree with your points about Top Gear. I feel the same. there wasn't even a speed limit on the road that i was hit on - tho it was a built up residential area - and a boy had been killed at the same spot a year before. Kind of long wide road some people love to put their foot down on.

biglips · 22/09/2006 20:54

Top Gear had new series coming out next month but now the show may be axed cos of what had happened....boo hoo!

Saturn74 · 22/09/2006 21:14

The JustGiving page to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is now at £49,068.00!

Blondilocks · 22/09/2006 23:26

That's really impressive!

I hope his situation continues to improve as well.

Hope Top Gear isn't axed, enjoy watching it. It is very unlikely that axing Top Gear would prevent people from speeding, or that the programme is the sole cause of all speeding.

Macdog · 23/09/2006 01:27

just read on itv teletext that RH has walked, albeit briefly. don't know if it's true, hope it is
love to all following this, x

TeenyB · 23/09/2006 10:52

Yes, I heard that he had walked too. Apparently he also sat bolt upright in bed, asked Jeremy (Clarkson) what had happened and when Jeremy told him that he had been in an accident, Hamster's reply was "Was I driving like a t**t?" That brought a huge smile to my face as so much sounds like Richard that we all know and love.

More good news

KolinEdwoodBarnz · 23/09/2006 13:08

Did Richard Hammond break the record? And after the crash, can he now be put in the Guiness Book Of Records?

lanismum · 23/09/2006 13:11

think hes probably broken the record for the fastest crash, bet that will please him when hes better

SoupDragon · 23/09/2006 13:12

Sounds like he's doing amazingly well given the original reports!!

Twinkie1 · 23/09/2006 13:19

So glad that he is getting better - he seems to be such a nice genuine ordinary family man who has the speed thing that most men have - I have to say the only 'small' man that I find attractive too.

Good Luck Richard and Family - you look like lovely people in the paper today too, a beautiful wife and georgeous little girls (and I love the name Willow BTW!)

fattiemumma · 23/09/2006 13:24

i absolutly love top gear and Hamster is a little eye candy too.

i roared with laughter recently as he was described as bein voted " the top weird bloke its ok to fancy" couldn't agree more.

he is an absolute adorable man who seems a genuine nice guy. i am really pleased he has made a good recovery s ofar and i hope and pray that the only lasting damage left by the crash was to the car

catsmother · 23/09/2006 13:34

I feel so relieved that he seems to be making as good a recovery as can be hoped for. It may seem silly to be concerned when you don't personally know someone but he always comes across as a genuinely nice guy, and of course, no-one likes to think of anyone becoming a widow before their time.

The BBC is apparently saying that "The Best of Top Gear" which was going to have been shown next Sunday has now been indefinitely postponed. Also, that they're in no position to confirm the start of the new series, which should have been at the beginning of October. I really hope this is a postponemnet and not the end of the show altogether.

ruty · 23/09/2006 14:37

i think Top Gear glorifies speed and hope it doesn't come back. I do hope RH makes a full recovery though and good news he is walking and talking.

KolinEdwoodBarnz · 23/09/2006 15:21

Was the last thing going through Richard Hammonds mind his crash helmet?

trinityrhino · 23/09/2006 15:31

just heard on the radio that hes has taken his first steps

he was laughing and joking as he walked aided to the bathroom last night apparently

Tutter · 23/09/2006 15:54

oh yes very big, very clever, kolinedwardbarnes

[yawn]

TeenyB · 23/09/2006 15:56

I've actually just reported his so called "joke" as I consider it sick to say the least and would hate to think that Mindy Hammond might see it.

ruty · 23/09/2006 15:59

who is kolinedwoodbarnz? No other posts from him/her...

Tutter · 23/09/2006 16:01

a bored teenager probably. sh*te name - that's my excuse for getting it wrong .

fattiemumma · 23/09/2006 16:02

I also reported it.

tribpot · 23/09/2006 18:55

Personally I'm hoping TG does reappear, but then again, if it glorifies speed for some people we're not really its target audience as we all basically tune in to have a laugh and/or ogle RH.

(A taxi driver once asked me if I'd disengaged the ABS or something on my car to see how well it would skid in the wet. I said "er, no, because I was pregnant when we bought it". He obviously thought I was mad to put child safety above deliberately skidding the car )

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 23/09/2006 19:05

According to the press (ie JC) RH got up and went to the loo on his own on Thurs night, when he was in intensive care (I thought people in an ICU were wired up to monitors and things???)

TinyGang · 23/09/2006 19:13

Wishing him well - I am amazed he wasn't killed outright. He's lucky to be alive.

I know I shouldn't laugh, but poor chap having the fact that he 'got up and made it to the loo' in the press. Mind you, that is a very, very encouraging sign just the same.

Really hope he gets well soon.
