lol twiglett, how clever to get a giggle out of such an eye wateringly painful experience!!
No no no, never waxing ever ever ever, no parts of me can take it...
I will pluck shave and happily creme depillate any offending areas
Off to contemplate labial ping...

Pardon me for butting in on an exclusively female thread, but I came across this website this morning (I wasn't looking for it of course, just followed a link...honest)
They ship to UK so may be of use to someone.
Some of the stories in the section "LOL" are eye-watering!!!

HiddenSpirit · 28/04/2004 23:00

Cheers for that Stuart You offering to buy us all one?

Angeliz · 28/04/2004 23:09

Have not read this thread yet but caught twigletts post!

You are SO funny

ROFL!!

Hellsbelle · 28/04/2004 23:24

New here, but may as well jump in with both feet. My brazilian was so painful and undignified that I got the worst giggles, and then completely lost it at the end when the waxer produced a handmirror, like for the back of your head in the hairdresser, and showed me the livid smarting horror from all angles! And I politely said "How lovely, thank you"!

alexsmum · 29/04/2004 00:26

wsm instead of getting a brazilian, shouldn't you just get a cleverer dog??
i think that i would much prefer the burst mattress look to having my pubic hair pulled out at the roots..ouch!!

champs · 29/04/2004 19:47

hi all, a brazillian is normally done for holidays when women are going to wear bikini's.

I have done brazilian waxes... not my fave treatment to do, who knew beauty therapy was so intimate pain shouldn't be excruciating, and should only hurt while hair is removed. pain after a wax is normaly an indication of poor tech, the area waxed is sensitive tho and i am too chicken to have it done, i use depilatory cream there and on underarm and wax my legs.

kiwisbird · 29/04/2004 20:11

I just buy boy legged swim suits

kalex · 29/04/2004 20:13

Had it done, both brazilian and hollywood, have to say prefer hollywood, If you are going to do it, may as well do it all the way!! Have to say love it, and actually don't find the pain too bad. I mean I have given birth twice, so anything under that is really not too painful.

If you are going to go for it, phone the salon, tell them you are a brazilian virgin, and hopefully will give you the most sensitive & gentle person.

Like childbirth you leave your modesty at the front door and pick it up on the way back out again.

I was persuaded! the first time by my dp, but now do it for me. It's like wearing sexy underwear, nobody else knows but it makes you feel good.

Have to say that it does make my incredibly horrible stracthmarks more noticeable, but they helped in the creation of my 2 perfect children.

Go for it, if you don't like don't do it again!

StuartC · 01/05/2004 10:26

Hidden Spirit - hi!
Only if I am allowed to assist

HiddenSpirit · 01/05/2004 13:02

lol Stuart I wouldn't even let DP assist he would take too much delight in seeing me squirm in pain

(could be something to do with the fact I found it hilarious cause he couldn't talk properly yesterday after having half his face numbed to get a filing )

starry · 01/05/2004 15:31

I have a brazillian and i think it looks great.

Don't think it's pervy/childlike at all. DP likes it cause it just looks really neat and ummm.....errr... one doesn't get pubic hair stuck at the back of ones throat/up ones nose during certain carnal activities IYSWIM

It's personal taste - personally I think it looks miles better than having something resembling a small hairy creature between your legs - but some people like that.

If it's done proberly I don't think it hurts that much either. In fact I do my own now (sugaring is better than waxing IMO as wax sticks to the skin and sugaring stuff doesn't which in itself makes it a lot less painful)

HiddenSpirit · 01/05/2004 23:33

ok Starry, fess up - what's sugaring all about then? I'm all for something that is less painful/iritating

carla · 01/05/2004 23:41

All agogg, Starry! but have been from the start of this thread anyway

kittyb · 01/05/2004 23:44

this is so enlightening. I've just started getting my legs waxed again after MANY years, and think gave the game away at the salon by asking for a "bikini wax" - that must be really old fashioned, like "disco" or "record". Anyway couldnt work out what the girl was on about when she asked if I wanted "any more off", and she was very discreet, leaving the room to let me check...now I know!

carla · 02/05/2004 00:13

Did she put Leo Sayer on for you?

Angeliz · 02/05/2004 00:19

I waxed my leg,(only one ), the other night and it's still prickly, am i doing it wrong?
I'd love to get all the excess hair just permanantly removed but am so bashful!!

spacemonkey · 02/05/2004 00:30

i shaved my ... ahem ... bikini area last night using that King of Shaves sensitive shave gel and NO RASH!

highly recommend

HiddenSpirit · 02/05/2004 10:34

I've shaved/trimmed into a nice sorta brazilian wax style before, but found I needed to do it every day or 2 as stubble would start growing where I had shaved and it would itch like f**k! In the end I gave up and went back to burst mattress look as I couldn't be assed doing it every other day. Whereas a wax lasts weeks (?)

Starry, tell me what sugaring involves!!!! LOL

spacemonkey · 02/05/2004 10:47

Doesn't the hair have to be at a certain length before you can wax it? That's always put me off, because if you want a perma-bald effect you don't wanna have to wait for the stubble to grow before getting rid again ...

Or have I been misinformed?

stace · 02/05/2004 11:14

dont read on if you're squeamish but have been dying to share this little story.

2 weeks ago night before flying away on holiday decided to brave it and wax my legs and as much bikini as i can see, reach etc- 5 months pregnant so not easy and pain threshold bad , so decided i would inflict the pain myself rather than risk ABH on some poor beautician ......

anyway, pain was unbearable and decided... getting a little graphic now......

to give a little trim in the bikini area first to make it easier/ neater etc........

the scissors where hairdressing scissors and very sharp......

alot later, very sore and embarrassed......;(

ADVICE: DO NOT TRIM YOUR OWN!!!!!!

champs · 02/05/2004 18:06

OMGosh stace you poor mite!!! also pain threshold while pregnant or due/on/just finished period is very low for waxing.

sugaring is same as waxing but a different solution is used. hot waxing is thought to be better for down there but I dont like doing that cos I wouldn't like to burn client.
hot wax is where you use the wax without a strip and pull the hair out (sounds horid) with it. sugaring can be done like this.
or as the case of warm waxing, where a strip is used to pull hair out a suggaring mixture would be used instead of warm wax.

I would advise honey wax to be used on bikini area as it holds the hair better, which is why it is good for people with thick and/or coarse hair. If however, you have sensitive skin then a tea tree wax should be used.

Angeliz--- did you use an at home wax? they are not that good, and did you make sure you spread the wax towards the hair growth thinly and holdin the spatula at an angle? also did you pull the strip against the hair growth but NOT upwards!!! sort of back on it's self??!! so many times I see people pulling it upwards, thats what causes all the pain, it is very dangerous and i have seen cuts, grazes and worse from bad tecniques (oooer, have come over all school mistress like) btw, have you tried a hair growth restricter?

The good thing about waxing is that if you do it for long enough, hair grows back thinner and lighter everytime, it is important not to shave in between tho, and their is no stubble.

hidden spirit.... waxing can last up to 3 weeks, depending on your hair growth rate whereas with shaving, it's more like up to 3 days and you get the dredded itch.
dh is frowning and tapping his watch... got to go

mears · 02/05/2004 19:10

This thread has actually inspired me so I got some Veet home waxing treatment and have had a good tidy up. Found it easy and painless.

trelis · 02/05/2004 19:23

I have had a both Hollywood and Brazilian but dislike the itching!!! However do love how tidy it looks especially under small pants!

Dh usually complains it looks like an over filled tobacco tin so I treated myself to a Remington bikini trimmer and its fab. Its like hairdressing clippers so you can have a no.1 , no.2 etc. DH gave me a no.3 ready to go into hospital to have baby as I couldnt see to do it myself.

About 6 weeks after I gave birth I noticed it was really untidy so gave myself a trim but forgot to put the thing back on that decides the length and ended up shaving bald patches in it. Disaster -leave it to dh now!
