As discussed by Bundle and myself off-board...who'd like to join us in creating a present for another Mner?
Ought to try and keep it a surprise for the recipient really so CAT me or Bundle if you would like more info.
All offers of help hugely appreciated, as before.

Jura, I think we will be OK - another six to come from tamum and some from bundle and NQC on the day, plus some others in transit - I think we are there!
I have had a mail from popsy this evening about the other project. I will mail her for you Liesel and Littlefish just in case.

Hi Marina - mine eventually got to the post office yesterday morning so you should have them today?!

Marina · 05/09/2006 16:20

According to a huffy dh down the phone, dd, as Squares Manager, opened them this morning and has added them to the stash. Not bad for aged only three...will confirm but they were the only arrivals this am dottydot so I think they must be yours

tamum · 05/09/2006 16:28

FWIW I sent mine off yesterday too

Marina · 05/09/2006 16:32

judgement of Solomon-type scenario unfolding here...will report later. Calm down dears, it's only a blanket etc...

bundle · 05/09/2006 16:37

am v proud of my bobble-festooned square and only slightly less showy offy about my orange/turquoise stripes...

tamum · 05/09/2006 16:44

I think the orange and turquoise stripes would look particularly lovely next to my pink and purple ones

bundle · 05/09/2006 16:52

tamum, we were made for each other! aaaaahhhhh.

(ps am so proud of my sarah dallas wrapover cardi i may even post a photo when it's finished - on last sleeve...)

Dottydot · 05/09/2006 18:18

Oh no! Mine were very plain indeed... Must Try Harder next time and do stripes and swirls and bobbles and things (not that I'm competitive in any way...).

Littlefish · 05/09/2006 18:22

Can the orange and turquoise stripes and pink and purple stripes go next to my lilac and green stripes????

Marina, I'm sure your dd has very good taste and will avoid this!

Littlefish · 05/09/2006 18:23

Dottydot - I'm sure your squares were beautiful in their simplicity and will put my gaudy efforts to shame.

bundle · 05/09/2006 18:27

littlefish, I think they'll mingle really well with dottydot's lovely colours and my shambolic bobbles. dottydot, I did all plain for the last MN blanky so it was just bobble-envy

tamum · 05/09/2006 18:32

I'm sure it will be delightful. Well, quite sure. Ish. No, seriously, the last one was very bright but all the better for it. Dotty, most of mine were plain too, I think you need some plain ones in amongst the patterns or it all gets a bit overwhelming!

Would love to see the cardi, bundle.... Am currently in lurve with Noro Blossom. Far brighter than anything in my wardrobe but I guess that's no bad thing!

bundle · 05/09/2006 18:34

ooer tamum, that sounds a bit racy! the woman in our wool/catholic icon shop was desperate to show me the new rowan yarn the other day that's made of soya beans! (mixed in with wool) it was quite pretty

bundle · 05/09/2006 18:35

tamum, just before i go home to see my children - is it worth blocking? my stitchnbitch book raves about it...about squeezing (not wringing) between fluffy towels and then leaving it for a week to dry into the perfect shape you've teased it into. is it, is it?

tamum · 05/09/2006 18:37

I only ever block lace to be honest, but having seen the miracles that works I would be inclined to try, maybe. I have a tie-front bolero that I reckon must need blocking, I just can't see pressing being enough, but it's pretty yarn-dependent I think. Not much help, am I?

bundle · 05/09/2006 18:40

tee hee.
she doesn't iron just dunks into wool-friendly bubbles, then rinses about 4 times, then squeezes gently and pull into shape (on bias mainly) and leave flat (oh yes, we've oodles of room in our flat for this caper) on second effin towel...hmmm i think it will benefit the cardi, it's edge-to-edge (moss stitch) so I want to reduce the curl as much as possible - and the first row is a contrast so I want that to show too, if possible.. let me get the b*er sewn up first

tamum · 05/09/2006 18:46

Ooooh, I always block (when I do) before sewing up. I just put it in warm water then squeeze it out gently and then pin out on a blanket on top of a rug. Not quite as sophisticated, I admit. Mind you I am about to have to line another Noro cardi with binding tape on the inside because I just can't get it not to curl back (the pattern had a kind of fake border, not a pick-up-stitches-one).

bundle · 05/09/2006 18:48

hmmmmmmmmm. she says it doesn't matter if you block before/after sewing up.

if it doesn't like flat (ish - I'm not expecting miracles) I may sew in some wide, silky ribbon

I hate to but in on this bobble-envy Noro-perving fest, but I can report that an off-message dh neglected to mention two packages, one indubitably from tamum and the other from dottydot. So both were there and both very nice.
Dotty, trust me, with bundle and tamum involved we need a lot of plainer squares to thin out the "jauntier" contributions.
Bundle, you could bring your cardigan on Sunday...
I will be bringing dd I'm afraid NQC - she is keen to "halp". Ds has been bought off with the promise of swimming with daddy.

And forgot to say thanks SueW, looking forward to those

How old is DD, Marina?

I haven't spoken to my friend with 8 million children, but she might be up for company. Alternatively, the kids can hang in one living room while we're in the other.

Oh, god. Sunday. My MIL might appear! Oh well. We'll cope.

tamum · 05/09/2006 21:16

I beg your pardon! I did send some plain ones too, although admittedly still rather bright. Glad they got there, anyway. I look forward to seeing the bits that dd sews up, Marina

NotQuiteCockney · 05/09/2006 21:16

DS1 is (in theory) going out to theirs for the weekend, and being returned sometime Sunday.

I'm perfectly happy to have people around when she comes, god knows, but you might have to pretend not to be imaginary friends.
