As discussed by Bundle and myself off-board...who'd like to join us in creating a present for another Mner?
Ought to try and keep it a surprise for the recipient really so CAT me or Bundle if you would like more info.
All offers of help hugely appreciated, as before.

Well done with the sewing Marina, youre doing a grand job.

wartywarthog · 09/09/2006 22:35

not that i've seen, marina... i got an email with the address to send the squares to, and an email from littlefish about what size the squares should be etc. don't worry - i'm sure it's for a very good cause

NotQuiteCockney · 09/09/2006 22:37

Do come if you want HC, you can certainly make tea, I suck at that. And you can help entertain the midgets.

(My MIL will not be sewing up, but maybe FIL will? He's good with needle and thread.)

Ooh, and I meant to buy spare darning needles, but haven't managed it, so please do bring any you've got hanging about? I guess we just really need one per person, and I know I have one ...

Marina · 10/09/2006 10:29

Will gladly bring tin of darners NQC.
And will mail you warty. I remember now - littlefish was "looking after" you for a couple of days when I was offline

Have a lovely day all you sewers. (that is, people who sew - not the pipes if you see what I mean!)

I'm feeling all proud already having looked at the list of people who have contributed. 75 squares is a fabulous effort!

I can't wait to see the finished blanket and the photos of the sewing up.

Have fun

chubbleigh · 10/09/2006 17:11

Good luck with the sew-up ladies, can't wait to see the photos, commando or otherwise.

so how did it go?

NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 19:49

I think it went well. Only four sewers, so slightly hard work (and lots and lots of kids!) but it went well.

I have a big patch to do, as does every other sewer, and then bundle will sew those together and put a border on!

Marina · 10/09/2006 19:54

Well, dd and I are zonked after our Passepartout efforts to be across town on a hot and sunny Sunday but it was worth the journey thanks to fabulous chocolate treats from hoxty and a delicious orange cake from NQC, and hot tea on demand
We only sewed about half the squares, but it has broken the back of the job, and we have all been sent off with homework, which bundle will then crochet together next week.
There was some nudity but only in the under sixes. Photographs were taken of work in progress, but obviously not of finished product yet.
Big plus of day: bran, who despite being a quilter not a knitter, joining in and helping a huge amount
Big minus of day: not a sighting of NQC's MIL we think she may have been too chicken to come in and see us
Big hangover of day: bundle poor love
Big worry of day....NQC proposed a Mumsnet blanket mark three...

Tell them all about your expanded property empire NQC

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 21:09

She appeared to be a bit pissed off at me. Didn't eat any food, really, not tagine, not quinoa, and not cake. (Asked for the lemon drizzle cake she'd given DH on Friday, which he had since eaten - ok, I had two slices, but still! And then asked for some of her own biscuits that she'd brought.) Whatever.

And I have no idea what you're talking about, re: property empire :-P.

HC's DS1 and my DS1 seemed to be mates very quickly, under the supervision of bundle's DD1.

NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 21:10

"she" = MIL there. Not anyone else!

Twiga · 10/09/2006 21:22

sounds like you all had a great time - wish I was close enough to have come but it's a bit of a track from bonnie Scotland! Glad my squares made it in time. 75 squares is an amazing effort - well done everyone. Looking fwd to seeing the finished article, thanks to all the sewers and to bundle who's finishing it all off.

NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 22:00

Oooh, someone (hc?) left behind a camera case, for a small canon camera.

Marina · 10/09/2006 23:20

That must be hoxtonchick's NQC, mine stayed unmolested in my bag, doh.
Thanks so much for your relaxed hospitality as ever

OP posts:
wartywarthog · 10/09/2006 23:27

wow! sounds fantastic! yummmm orange cake and chocs... MUST make it next time!

nqc - your mil sounds like a right pita if you don't mind me saying!

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2006 07:37

No problem, relaxed is the only sort of hospitality I do. (Thanks, by the way, hc, for the sous-cheffing for tea!)

She is a bit of a pita, although I think I've worked out part of the problem - before we went on holiday, "we" forgot her birthday, so she was pissed off (understandably). So we bought gifts while away, but gave them to her after tea yesterday (what with yesterday being a bit of a zoo). So she was in a mood then. I should have let DH bring her gifts with him on Friday when he went to see her, but as I'd chosen them, I wanted to be there when she got them.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2006 07:38

Oh, I was suggesting a potluck lunch sort of plan for next time, so we get more sewing time. Might make travel from West London etc more tempting, too?

Swizzler · 11/09/2006 09:52

Glad to hear the sewing went well and that the sqaure eventually turned up - mystery of previous missing parcel solved as it was returned at the weekend. Wrong postcode . Blame it on the pg brain!

Looking forward to seeing the finished article

Marina · 11/09/2006 10:00

I know it's a bit daft but I am so glad to hear that the missing squares are accounted for swizzler. I really hate it when personal stuff like photos or something handmade goes missing
Your flower was much admired - the whole ensemble looks really lovely.

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 11/09/2006 11:06

the blanket is going to be a stunner . we had a lovely time too, thanks so much for your hospitality nqc. i thought our boys got on really well too - lots of whooping! the camera case is indeed mine, maybe i can pop over sometime.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2006 11:11

HC, absolutely, pop over sometime - maybe come for tea sometime next week? With our new hectic afterschool schedule, we're thinking of inviting people over for early family teas, at like six?

Swizzler, keep the squares and resend when we do the next blanket, I'm sure it'll be soon. That flower was abolutely lovely.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2006 11:11

Next time, I will make sure the bowling alley isn't in the same room as the sewing, though.

hoxtonchick · 11/09/2006 11:18

oooh, thanks nqc, ds would love to see your ds1 again. the bowling alley was popular though wasn't it....
