Back to the Blanket....who's up for another Mn blanket?

Marina · 08/08/2006 15:16

As discussed by Bundle and myself off-board...who'd like to join us in creating a present for another Mner?
Ought to try and keep it a surprise for the recipient really so CAT me or Bundle if you would like more info.
All offers of help hugely appreciated, as before.

Not to mention the IKEA egg seat
NQC, I thought of ds1 on the way home.
Dd saw a veiled female bus passenger and squeaked, quite loudly "Oh, scary ghosty" . Cue hasty simple explanation about culture and dress choices!
What with that and Black Chin Man we had quite an informative day on the buses

your dd is ace marina

bran · 11/09/2006 11:54

It was great fun, and the quilt is going to look fab. Thanks for hosting it NQC, the cake was delicious (your MIL missed a treat).

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2006 12:05

DS1 hasn't asked about women in jilbabs or hijabs or whatever. I can expect loads of "oooh, look at the believing-in-Allah women!" soon, no doubt ...

All the kids were great fun. Oh, MIL was rather alarmed by some of HC's DS1's language. Helpfully, as that made my DS1 realise it was a Useful Word. He didn't say it this morning.

I expect it was good for the ILs to see that other children DS1's age run about and make noise and so on. I fear what sort of childhood DH had ...

hoxtonchick · 11/09/2006 12:06

oh god, what did he say???

Swizzler · 11/09/2006 12:13

Will hang onto the other 2 sqaures and keep an eye out for the next blanket. The pattern was pretty easy and I now know now to do bobbles .

Waiting impatiently for the final pics!

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2006 12:35

"Bollocks". It was in good context, DH said he wasn't going to get the ball another time, if it went over the fence. My DS1 kicked the ball over the fence. Your DS said "bollocks". My PIL flapped about it, helpfully.

hoxtonchick · 11/09/2006 13:04

don't know where he picked that one up from....

chubbleigh · 11/09/2006 16:56

Football and swearing go together like horse and carrige. Fact. So don't be alarmed it is perfectly natural, if he is West Ham then even more so.

hoxtonchick · 11/09/2006 20:39

he is west ham chubbleigh . i blame his father (who blames me)!

Gillian76 · 13/09/2006 21:17

I was too late

Teach me to be lazy and not check the thread.

Keep my measley offering for the next time Marina!

Marina · 15/09/2006 20:44

It's not measly, they were lovely and I am sorry they missed out this time. But in a way it is quite nice that a couple from the previous project "pay forward" to the next, Gillian - this blanket has three squares (one of mine and one of Pollylogos', and one of Serenity's) that we just could not work in to the first one
So nil desperandum and thank you for sending them!

Have you managed to finish the blanket? Has it been given to the recipient yet?

Marina · 12/10/2006 11:14

Update on the blanket for all interested parties.
It was sewn into sections at NQC's and those there took the unfinished sections home with them to post to bundle.
As it's enormous (about single bed sized) it has taken us, then her, a bit longer than anticipated to assemble the entire thing and edge it with crochet to finish it.
Bundle's mum and she should finally conclude the project this week. Hoxtonchick will be photographing it either tomorrow or next Friday so we can post pictures, and then it will be handed over (Hoxty and bundle know the recipient in RL).
Sorry not to have updated sooner but time seems to have flown since school started and we've all been under the cosh rather with work and snotty offspring. The last I saw of it, in large bits, it looked FAB. Will keep you all posted re photos. Bundle will be including a list of everyone who sent squares when it is presented.

Well done bundle - it was absolutely mahoosive, to be fair, I can't imagine how much work the edging will be. My current blanket project is only about 29" by 24", and edging that took forever.

Littlefish · 13/10/2006 13:39

Wow, I had no idea it would end up so big. What a mammouth task. Well done to all the sewers and crotcheters. I can't wait to see the photographs.

taMummy · 13/10/2006 13:50

Wow, it's huge by the sounds of it! Well done for all that crocheting bundle and thanks for the update Marina

whooOOOoooOOOpsfallenoveragain · 14/10/2006 07:38

My Mum has just given me a square she knitted for the blanket - is it too late? or would you like me to send it on?

BlackMagicMiaou · 14/10/2006 08:19

I'm sure there'll be another MN blanket at some point oops (though at this point I should imagine that all the maker-uppers are shouting "NO MIAOU! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!" at the computer now ) - I'd hang on it for now

Marina · 14/10/2006 22:53

Oh, we have an as-yet loose and ill-advised plan for a third blanket, mainly so we can enjoy NQC's blanket-raising hospitality again Ds wants in on this one as he wants to hear more navel-uncscrewing tales from your mad youth - plus he is convinced he has cat whisperer potential and will have both your cats prostrate with affection by 4pm.
So, the square will quite possibly be the cornerstone for something new in the future, thanks Whoops

Missed this update. Looking forward to seeing finsihed product.

Marina · 09/11/2006 12:43

Am about to post a picture of the finished product in Member Profiles .

The blanket will be handed over to the recipients on Friday, hopefully.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this project. It was so successful it took us quite a while to finish the blighter off , hope you'll agree the wait was worth it.

Special thanks to bundle who undertook a colossal crochet trim round the edges
