they have now become a status symbol and that is the problem. 4x4 are needed in the country and remote area to allow people like farmers to do their jobs etc. where the prob comes is the ones that do the 'school run' and never see a bit of dirt ( did you know you could actually get spray on dirt!!). bmw used to be a status symbol. the marketting is directed at women with children, saftey/high driving postion etc. i have had a 4x4 to boy did i need it, i now have an mpv which is just as good in bad weather which i get plenty of.

p.s. I completely agree that people who fly off on foreign holidays without thinking twice about the environmental impact of their behaviour are also v. wicked

but it's like me complaining that I'm hurt because people are criticising me for flying off in my private jet which ACTUALLY my parents lent me because I didn't have AN ALTERNATIVE! So don't judge me ok!

i think she was saying that she is sometimes seen driving a 4x4 because its the only one she can get her hands on - beggars cant be choosers etc.

Her kids go to a posh school becuse I think her parents pay or help out.

What she is discussing is the fact that you will automatically and very narrow mindedly jump to conclusions that (a) she is loaded (b) she has Chanel sunglasses (c) her dh has a tiny dick when in fact it would appear none of the above are true hence you are talking out of your arse

i drive a bmwx5....in london.....but am planning to sell it soon and get a smaller car.....but threads like these just make me want to upgrade to something even bigger....like a tank!

People aren't going to stop using 4x4 because you stick some stupid stickers on them, that will just make them more determined to keep using them. Why don't you spend your time writing to your MP and encourage them to tax them even more heavily or something - or is that not as much fun????

BTW - some MPV's are more polluting than some 4x4

Canadianmum, the problem with 4x4s is the risk that they will kill someone I know and love. I can be worried about that before it happens, you know. Because they are seriously many times more dangerous to pedestrians, particularly children, than other cars. If you wanted to design a child-killer, this is what you'd come up with.
