Hi

OP posts:
perfumelady · 22/07/2006 20:16

i think choosing an agency is the hardest thing, i think a big lesson should be learned from the inspired kids thing, don't listen to just one person take the advice then do further research for yourself, make a list of say 4 0r 5 agencies that you like the sound of, check there website to see what jobs the children have already done because you might find that certain agencies seam to do more for a certain age group then assess if your lo fits into that age group that would be a good starting point, i must admit we have seen a real mixture of agencies at castings and jobs, i have found that if it is a big name casting, like m&s, unilever or next then you tend to get loads of agencies represented. at the unilever & m&s casting, we saw urban angels(dd's agency) mot junior, truely scrumpious, kids london, norrie carr, loads were there from elizabeth smiths and bizzykidz, but at smaller castings you may find only three differant agencies, the agencies we have seen most often are obviously u/a mot and beleive it or not bizzykidz. to be honest i don't think anyone should say this is the best agency or that one is because as it's been said before on here what is good for one may not be good for another, i could say to you u/a are fab we have been to loads of castings and jobs which is good for us and good for you to know, i think all you can take from someone like me saying that is to take a mental note that u/a get regular work mabe next time someone posts they have a job or casting ask them which agency they are with and what the job is for ref age, that way it will give you more of an idea of which agencies are getting the calls.

Tobleronechoc · 22/07/2006 20:18

ellesmum, as exciting as it may be, dont rush honey. They say the best things come to those who wait. Be patient and when you get all the decisions then make a choice. Dont just take one because the other one hasnt got back to you yet

strawberrymilkshake · 22/07/2006 20:26

Hi everyone

Good luck to everyone with castings.

Julie >> nothing for us at moment, take it you havent heard anything yet, but it is a bit early for you to hear anything yet. Everyone seems so busy, we have nothing, but suppose I cant moan, as she has had a couple of jobs it the last couple months.

perfumelady · 22/07/2006 20:26

has every one that has tried b&b all submitted by the website, has anyone applied by post, the reason i ask is over the last couple of years i have seen many posts that have said they don't get a reply from website submission, i myself applied before we joined u/a and to this day never got a yes or no, i am sure that somepeople must get a reply from website submission but i do wonder if maybe a file including picture that is over a certain size maybe they don't open it due to file being to big, i have seen warnings in the past on modelling sites that photo attachements over 100k won't be opened ,so maybe it's that, try sending an application of by post just to see if my theory is right probably totally wrong but it was just a thought.

tavalana · 22/07/2006 20:31

too bad about inspired kids they had a nice website and nice photos of their kids, i considered going with them but luckily gave up.
in response to tobleronechoc i have applied at all those agencies and most of them have already replied with a yes or a no but i'm still waiting and still want to hear from people what their experience is/was with all agencies.
i'm getting slightly addicted to this website.

Tobleronechoc · 22/07/2006 20:35

absolutely agree with your first message perfumelady. I know UA get work because a friend of mine is with them, only joined but has spoken to parents so quite happy so far. MOT are great and well represented at jobs too. If my memory serves me correct I think BK have been at nearly every casting we have, if not the majority. Why did you say it like it was a surprise?

Strawberry, what agency are you with if you dont mind me asking. dd or ds?

Tobleronechoc · 22/07/2006 20:40

couldnt agree more! I gulped my dinner down to get back and wathing a film at the same time!

also tavalana, I said that earlier, great site and think I would have been tempted myself

perfumelady · 22/07/2006 20:42

Tobleronechoc don't get me wrong i happen to belive that bizzykidz are a great agency but that is my opinion which i have formed from seeing bizzykidz at nearly every casting we have been too, it's just a lot of people over time have slated them big time but the truth is they do go to nearly all the major castings and i think a lot of the bad press has been from bitter parents who may not have got any work, which if you ask me is very unfair, bet there are loads of agencies out there that have children that have not been chosen for work, that is the risk you take i guess.

strawberrymilkshake · 22/07/2006 20:44

dd is with bk and mot for modelling, no work at all with mot, have had work with bk, she is also with Cs management for tv work and film work, have had work with them.

ellesmum · 22/07/2006 20:45

tobleronechoc- the only reason i went with kids london without waiting for a response from b and b is in my opinion and from researching into both agencies they are both equally as good as each other they are both well established agencies. even if b and b replied to me the same day as kids i would have still gone with kids, as i feel they are right for my daughter. bruce and brown are the last agency i had to wait for a reply from.

mrratty · 22/07/2006 20:53

Hello there!
Casting yesterday was okay, not counting on hearing back as there is a massive amount of competition! The other children whose parents I spoke to were form B&B, KL and bright sparks.

B&B are probably taking so long to reply as they are often said to be one of the best and unlike UA they accept applications all year round and unlike KL they accept online application.

Tobleronechoc · 22/07/2006 20:55

perfumelady-oh i see. That is unfair, but then I dont listen to gossip and go with my own experiences.

Strawberry-what sort of work have you done so far?

ellesmum-KL are a good agency, you made a great choice!! good luck

hope i got the peoples answers round the right way lol

strawberrymilkshake · 22/07/2006 20:58

We only joined agencies in April/May. Done a photoshoot for chesington with bk and has done a voice over for a cartoon with cs, has been to castings as well for disney mag and auditioned for The Bill, but they went with a older child in the end, never mind it was experience for her.

mysonsmummy · 22/07/2006 20:58

ellesmum - be careful you dont want them to start thinking you are being too pushy. when they replied to me the e-mail had gone into spam but i would never and rang and chased them. as long as the e-mail had gone through and i knew they had it.

toblerone - which agencies have one person running it?

ds was with bizzykidz for over two years. i felt it was odd that they didnt want to meet us. how can they send kids for jobs on looks alone. we had one job and i was quoted a price over the phone. when we were paid 4 1/2 months later it was less than agreed. i was then patronised with 'oh you must have got it wrong' FGS it was his first job i knew i got nothing wrong. where the booker was sending me directions she had just pressed reply when they had been sent from client so i had all their corresspondence. they were paid they amount i was quoted with their agency fee on top. but money was then taken off. it gave me the kick up the bum i needed. he did not have one casting in over 2 years. i did not expect him to be rushed off his feet but did expect him to have a casting.then its up to us if he gets the job. so they should not be sending that out in their letters as they cannot guarntee work at all. we also paid over £100 to go in model book. this was a rip off - meant to be like a booking - we were in and out in 3 minutes the photos were so bad they decided to keep the photos i took at home on his site. they agreed mine were better. when i rang to cancel our contract. ive recently moved to UA and have spoken to them more in a couple of weeks than BK in over two years. just my experience - sorry ladies who have heard it b4.

i dont agree that agencies who have been round longer have more clients at all. when i was looking the newer agencies MOT, B&B, UA, kids looked alot friendler and on the ball. again my experince.

mimi1uk · 22/07/2006 20:59

perfume lady i applied to bruce and brown via post and email sent post recorded delivery never heard a thing

tavalana · 22/07/2006 21:00

in response to tobleronechoc i actually went for an interview with them in London and i really liked them, nice office, nice people that seemed to know what they were talking about and from research it seemed that they were very selective so I'm sure lots of people got scammed, i feel sorry for those people.

i think some agencies are better for certain age groups, i only heard bad feedback on bizzy kids from parents that have kids same age as mine but now i see they get work for the older children. we have to take in consideration that it's just personal opinion.

for those waiting to hear from bruce and brown when i applied last year it took them only a day to reply and was through the website and a few weeks ago i applied again for my eldest and it took them about a week to get back to me with a no!

mrratty · 22/07/2006 21:03

Most of the children I'v seen at jobs have been from B&B, UA and KL, which are newer agencies and strangley enough ones that don't charge massive amounts for represtation. I would also like to add that KL and B&B don't always interview yet they are still fab agencies.

Tobleronechoc · 22/07/2006 21:06

mysonsmummy- didn't think BK contracted? Also, if you had all the correspondence then why didnt you do something instead of write it on here? Also you said you had no castings at all 'nothing in 2 years' but you got a job (the one you mention that they underpaid you for).

Agencies that size earn too much money from client work to even think about trying to rip off £50 from a parent. You must have got it wrong and if not then should have sent them the correspondence as it must have been a simple error. Why would any reputable company risk doing that for £50, they wouldnt I'm sure.

Strawberry-imagine seeing your child on the bill!!!! that must have been really exciting at the time!!!

Tobleronechoc · 22/07/2006 21:08

mrratty are you a dad??? i wish i could get my dh to take mine to castings!!!!

strawberrymilkshake · 22/07/2006 21:09

Yes it was just a good day out. It also gave dd experience meeting with adult actors and actresses who were there auditioning for parts, and to see they have to do the same sort of things as the kids to get parts.

Tobleronechoc · 22/07/2006 21:11

that is soooo cool

mysonsmummy · 22/07/2006 21:11

ITS AN ODD ONE WITH iNSPIRED -WE WERE ABOUT TO GO AND SEE THEM (sorry) and tbh i might have gone with them. not sure if i believe it was total scam as photos so proffesional etc or maybe they started new ageny with best intentions and then didnt get the work they expected, had to move offices etc. still if i had paid out money i'd have been *issed off for sure. saying they if it wasnt a scam they shod have got back in touch with parents expaining everything and given a refund.

i dont want to sound like a mum who was just angry as ds didnt get any work. i was shocked we had nothing when they can say they guarntee work, but also it was a mixture of everything else. there is no point sitting on someones book paying out for drs note if nothings happen ing.

strawberrymilkshake · 22/07/2006 21:15

Bk told me that "they can not guarantee work " when i was enquiring about dd joining.obviously they hope to get you work, but no agency can guarantee you work as its the companies that use them that choose.

mimi1uk · 22/07/2006 21:16

guys ,please lets not get started about bk, it annoys me on here u cannot say anything on here and then u get accused of being dishonest

Tobleronechoc · 22/07/2006 21:19

you had a close escape by the sound of it. lucky you aye!! I agree, if they were legit then that is what they should have done.

with BK, if they guarantee work they are breaking the law you know. No agency can do that. I work for an employment agency and model agencies are governed by the same law/act. The only agenccy Ive ever heard of that guarantees work is that new debbie mcgee one but then they have got alot of things wrong by the sound of it
