Getting up in the middle of the night to go on holiday ... long car journey to Liverpool or Holyhead to catch the ferry to Ireland

I got my bath and hair washed in the deep sink in the kitchen,
I got tucked in really tight in bed with what seemed like hundreds of sheets and blankets

I played in the woods all day in the summer holidays and no one was worried sick.

Mars Bars were bigger

we would cycle round the block continuously all day every day never getting bored. used to love getting up in the summer holidays and watching saved by the bell and pugwalls summer

it never rained in the summer hols

Taking some sarnies, getting on my bike - meeting friends and spending ALL day ( never rained!!) at the open air swimming pool ... which alas now is a trout farm

...we were allowed to sit in the luggage part of the estate car for journies.

...we never wore sunhats.

... we thought new convenience food was a fantastic treat and very "space-age" (Pot Noodle, Rise and Shine powdered orange drink, Vesta curries)

Having a Chinese takeaway was a REALLY exotic thing to do.

My mum used to let us change into our jamas and light candles on the kitchen table while we ate.

...if we were off school sick there were hardly any childrens programmes on TV during the day. If you were lucky you might have found some schools programmes.

bettyspaghetti, yes there was always a schools programme about someone giving birth!

saturday night tv was not to be missed! happy days, jim'll fix it, generation game, armchair thriller!

I always thought the school programmes could only be watched on the school Telly .... Imagine my surprise to come across the BBC Schools adaptation of Anne of Green Gables when on a sickie at home !!

used to love supermarket sweep when i was off sick from school.

also no matter how sick we were my mum always used to get us a cake from the bakers for later in the day when we felt better
