pushymom... There is plenty of work out there. Every advert on telly at the moment has got children in it and there's loads of cataloques and magazines too. The thing to remember is that the client chooses who they want from the agency and not the other way around. As long as you know the agency get work and they are busy on the whole, then there is nothing wrong with not getting much work sometimes as that is the industry you are in now. It is luck of the draw and nothing the agency can do if your child is not chosen.

franch · 04/02/2005 18:55

It's not true that all child modelling agencies work like that. DD is with the excellent Bruce & Brown - they charged us nothing upfront and simply take commission from her work, which is certainly plentiful. Also their website is password-protected, which I like.

I get my work through an agency and wasn't comfortable with the up-front fee idea.

JBMUM · 04/02/2005 19:02

Bruce and Brown don't charge an upfront fee but they do take a fee from your earnings on the year. My daughter was with them 8 years ago and then it was £195 a year. You don't pay anything up front but they take it out of your fees. We never earned more than the £195 a year so never earned a penny. Infact it cost us on the whole what with the travelling and auditions cos not all of them paid audition fees.

franch · 04/02/2005 19:06

Nope, B&B haven't taken anything from us other than commission. We discussed this when DD joined, and they made a point of the fact that this was their policy (I was considering other agencies who'd also accepted DD). DD has already earned a tidy sum through them. Maybe they've changed the way they work in the past 8 years?

The ALBA model info website says: "Genuine agencies DO NOT charge fees up front to be interviewed or to register."

hi, does anyone knows any in liverpool/ cheshire area? my baba is 4 months old

MUM007 · 05/02/2005 15:49

Has anyone heard of Moviemites agency?

kazza3 · 05/02/2005 18:23

Franch my little one is with Elisabeth Smith and she charges and she is legit and has been going 40 years. Infact this model agency was the first child model agency in this country. They charge for the interview after they see the photos because they want to see what your child is like with strangers. No matter how cute or pretty they are if they are not sociable they will not be any good in this type of business. If you are doing this soley for the money thn this type of business is not fr you as the work can be very irregular. My little girl earner just over £800.00 in the first 5 weeks after being signed up but this is not to say that this is going to be a regular amount of money.

Hello,
I am a first time poster and just wanted some advice on agencies. My daughter has just been accepted by Bizzykidz (along with hundreds of others by the sounds of it!!) but also has a meeting with Elisabeth Smith next week. If they accept her ( am having to pay to meet them) they will want to be her sole agent. Is anyone else represented by Elisabeth Smith AND another agency?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

kazza3 · 06/02/2005 20:07

BizzyKidz will not let you be represented by any others either because for the practical reason if they both want to put your forward for an audition on the same day who will you be representing ? How old is yours ? And what area are you in because there is a good agency in South London which I heard about after I joined ES. It s a tough business so be prepared. Good luck with ES because if you find them to be better you can cancel with BK.

ClaireH · 06/02/2005 20:32

Thanks for replying.
We live on south London and my daughter has just turned 7 months old. According to Bizzykidz website they seem to think its acceptable to have the freedom of being with more than one agency - I guess there is always going to be contradicting information. We're not expecting to make her a fortune, maybe just a little something in the bank for when she hits 18 (a very scary thought!)we'll see how it goes.

kazza3 · 06/02/2005 20:56

It's fun but have you signed a contract cos when you do you are saying that you will only be working for that agency? Also you will be busy up to the age of 1 then it dies down until 2 or 2 and a 1/2 cos thy think between those ages our little darlings are meant to turn into demons !! Have you a boy or a girl and you must let me know how you got on.

kazza3 · 06/02/2005 20:57

Sorry am half asleep can see you have a daughter if she has a unisex face like mine she will model as both girl and boy which is handy as it means more work.

ClaireH · 06/02/2005 22:17

So, would you say that it wouldn't really matter which agent I choose at the moment? It seems that most of the mums posting here are split between ES and Bizzykidz anyway. Do you think both these agents offer the same castings as I thought Bizykidz was mainly commercials and ES primarily photographic?

ClaireH · 06/02/2005 22:20

And to answer your question (I too am half asleep) I haven't yet signed a contract. We're still very much at the deciding stage. Although I'm aware it's not a life or death decision its nice to get some good feedback before we do commit. Unfortunately I dont think our girl will pass for a little boy...an opportunity missed there then.

kazza3 · 06/02/2005 22:47

I would say ES for babies and BK is mainly photographic with the odd commercial as too is ES. I have spoken to BK and I will sign my older son who is 12 with them rather than ES as they seem to suit him better. Try kids london model as they are in Dulwich and they seem good with babies as well. How big is your daughter mine is prem so was busy as could model as 3-6 month old but had the maturity of older baby as well as own age and also has a baby face not much hair.

ClaireH · 06/02/2005 23:04

I guess we'll stick with Bizzykidz for the moment then as they have already said yes. ES want to see her but theres no guarentee. She definately won't be able to pass for younger either. As I mentioned she is 7 months old now and she is 6-9 months (and they are getting a bit tight) and was 2 weeks overdue.

kazza3 · 07/02/2005 12:15

Try ES cos they know what they are looking for. They turned down my son and older daughter so I will try with BK cos they are free so I wont b losing but to be honest I am not holding breath.

outtolunch · 07/02/2005 12:29

Have bizzykidz asked you for £94? I tried calling them and also looked on their website to see who their clients are but so far no luck. Do you know who any of their clients are?

kazza3 · 07/02/2005 12:36

ES have loads and the best thing to do is to phone and ask them. Looking at earlier discussions BK seem to be successful with tv work but I have suddenly twigged that the children are alot older than the babies me and you have. Have you tried ES ?

ClaireH · 07/02/2005 12:58

I have a cheque for £94.00 ready to be posted to Bizzykidz. I am not sure that paying £30 upfront and then £130 for pictures is the wisest of first moves (considering this is untested waters for us) at least BK is only £94 and we get a chance to see if any work does actually come our way. I think the BK website is having some problems...normally it displays their current clients on the homepage.

kazza3 · 07/02/2005 13:01

Why not phone other agencies they will tell you exactly who their children have modelled for.

MUM007 · 07/02/2005 13:41

Apparently Bizzykidz have got contracts with quite a few top T.V.Dick and Dom, Cbeebies etc.My d has been accepted is there anyone that has been turned down at all.I would rather my d be turned down than be taken on with no chance of any work.
