sorry to buzz in 2manypimms, thanks for the good idea about marking off the date for doctors note( i'd be dangerous if i had a brain!!)my daughter has been with the agency also for a couple of months she has had one magazine cover and photo shoot already, she had great fun. music1 did you not know about the doctors note? search back through your emails that have been sent from buzzy kidz scroll down to the bottom of each one,the reason i say this is because i also didn't realise about the letter but at a later date found it at the bottom of an email they sent about something else,i think it was the one about the year book. my surgery charged me £15 to get it signed, did anyone else have to pay?

perfumelady · 17/10/2005 21:19

sorry about my spelling mistake i mean't bizzy kidz not buzzy kidz

Gumbee · 17/10/2005 21:44

I had to pay £5 for my first GP Letter and £10 for second one as his charges went up for private letters. As I sais before my daughter has been with Bizzykidz for just over a year and has not had any luck with work, just one casting, however am happy in the way they operate and will stick with them.

hahahehe · 17/10/2005 23:38

we had to pay £20, but i managed to get it undated as I thought it would be valid for 6months from the first license request.....but guess what....my little man got a job nearly as soon as i sent it in!! (which I was pleased about really!) realise now I should have photocopied it!!!!

BOOKER · 18/10/2005 02:09

Sorry to intrude on your conversation, but as the Head Booker of Bizzykidz, a parent on my books called me this morning and asked that I look at these threads and clear up a few queries for parents.

Firstly, there is no joining, or representation fee to be with the Bizzykidz. There is a one off payment applicable for the work entailed in setting a child up, but that is all. In a child's acceptance letter it states in a clear, bold, italic paragraph, consisting of 5 lines in the centre of an important letter (not a small sentence at the foot of an email as one parent has falsely stated), that parents MUST contact the agency on the first day of every month with new sizes for their child, whilst new shots can be emailed at any time to update and should also be sent when their child alters in appearance. After joining the agency, the parent is sent a letter which requests certain items for licencing purposes. One of those items is a GP letter, which is law. In bold underlined wording, it states that the parent should ENSURE that this letter is updated every 6 months. Unfortunately, gp's can charge what they like to sign these letters as it is not a service on the NHS (I had one parent 2 years ago tell me her GP wanted £180 which was ridiculous!), but the average fee is around £10-£15. Some GP's do not charge at all.

I would like to address two points please that have been brought to my attention on this website, which I feel need to be clarified.

  1. We do not charge a penny after joining for representation and I spend endless hours submitting my children to clients. Many children are not chosen, so the agency does not earn from those, so that is not really all that bad I would say, especially if you compare it with other companies that charge very large fees and EVERY year and with the same guarantees of work as we do, in that NO agency can guarantee work as it is the client that selects a child ultimately. In return for that gesture, we have a condition in our policy that may not be to the liking of some, but if a child is not adequately updated then they will be removed from the website and therefore from view of the client. We advertise to our clients that ALL of our children are up to date, so we have to maintain that policy without question. It is stated CLEARLY in our terms and conditions and acceptance letters, so if a parent does not fulfill their obligation to the agency by sending a 2 second email with height size, or get a gp letter updated, then we cannot be expected to be held responsible for that. We do not replace websites as we are too busy with our child work and the company that does this work has a fee, as do all companies that do work, unless they are a charity.
  2. In reply to 2manypimms's comments about our photoshoot, I do think you were exaggerating somewhat Andrea. We had 20 children at a 10-3pm photoshoot. We said clearly in our letter that only one person per child should attend due to space and even you brought a third party, which highly contributed to the numbers in attendance. Your time slot was 12-1pm along with 4 other children. We had a small delay with one young baby that was really hungry and tired, so that left us with 5 children waiting, but along with 10 parents and a few siblings to watch! A zoo it was not, I can assure you, but hard work yes, which incidentally I did not get paid for. Yes we arrange the shoots in accordance with a casting and it was carried out in that fashion. I am extremely efficient with my children when working and always get the best out of them. Julian's shots were great and so we achieved what we needed. I did do an assessment and I can forward you a copy once the photographer has signed it, if that will make you feel better. Both child and parent are also assessed whilst in the waiting area for their reaction with other children and adults. I realise that children are not in with the photographer long, but there is no point once they have finished the task in hand. Especially when I have a parent in reception complaining that it is like a zoo with too many people waiting? If a child is really good and takes little time then that is in their favour as clients pay by the hour and would prefer a child that is easy to work with than one that takes 2 hours to do a 1 hour job.

Regarding your holiday dates, which your comment made us look extremely inefficient I must say, I do have your unavailability dates on your file, but some parents holiday in the UK and can make certain assignments if they so wish, so I never completely book a child out unless it is specified that I should do so. The decision to decline a job I leave to the parent and do not make that dedision for them.
3) We do have a model book and our summer issue was on CD ROM, which was with me for you to look at on the PC with the photographer if you wanted to. Our new Look Book is in production shortly and will be distributed in early Jan for 2006. That is hard copy, as we alternate our advertising methods all the time. You are welcome to make an appt to view this once we have our issues delivered in December.

Hopefully I have cleared up those points for those that are unsure, however, I would appreciate it if anyone has any further queries regarding the above, they contact the agency (0208 3032627 EXT 20) directly when we will be more than pleased to answer those queries.

May I now take this opportunity to give some sound advice to any parent looking to join an agency, whichever agency they choose to apply to:

  1. If you have never heard of the company, or are unsure about anything, contact clients, casting directors and the like (a list can be found on a link under www.castweb.co.uk). Ask them who they use, which will mean they must get work if the client uses them!
  2. Do not attend hotels, seminars and the like! Go to www.albamodel.info and read the latest on the recent scams that parents have fallen prey to.
  3. Remember, no matter how gorgeous, or characterful a child is, or may be, that will not secure you any work at all. An agency can only do their best by offering you a position with the best intentions, and then ensuring they advertise adequately to the industry. They can then only wait for a client to contact them, whilst a parent hopes their query is for their child's criteria, and even then if they are submitted the client may not select them. They do not have to give a reason and the majority of the time they do not, so we merely have to just move on to the next client query.
  4. All agencies have different working policies and there are many GOOD agencies to choose from. Please bear in mind, however, that for every good agency out there you will find another 2 bad ones in operation. Do not ask the public, when they are strangers, for their opinion on a company. After all, you do not know who you are talking to and if someone says something good about an agency then could they work for them? Likewise, if something bad is said, then could they be the words of a company in competition with the said company that are trying to sabotage them? You will never know. Call the clients and ask them what they know and who they use. If you then find a few that have good words said about them, then go for the cheapest, after all, it is going to be a gamble whoever you go with.
  5. When you have found an agency, then work with them and update them, let them know if you are going away, keep your mobile on!! And although you may not hear from them at times, ENJOY when you do because the wait will most likely be worth it!

Good luck to all, whoever, you decide to go with!

Debi Clark

2ManyPimms · 18/10/2005 08:12

Thanks for clearing up a few points with the board, Debi. I was personally surprised that there was a reinstatement fee of 30 pounds should the Drs note lapse. It was a helpful reminder to keep on top of it but I saw no mention of a fee of this sort in any of the information from Bizzykidz.

Sorry if you are in any way offended by my comments. It sounds as though you are and it was not my intention to get your back up. I am completely new to all of this and all I can comment on is what I have experienced and hope that I can be set straight when others respond - as you have.

Thank you for taking the time to address the issues we have raised. Adding this to this the thread will certainly help others that may have any questions re: Bizzykidz.

2ManyPimms · 18/10/2005 08:13

Gumbee - I had to pay 25 pounds!! Gasp!!!!

trace2 · 18/10/2005 18:48

Debi.du you takr kids outside london?

MUM007 · 18/10/2005 21:21

I am with Bizzykidz and I agree with Debi stating that if you have a query its always best to speak to your agency. I have done this in the past be it by email or phone and Debi is always more than helpful.Any email query i have sent is always answered the same day as they state on their website. Debi is absolutely brilliant and considering the children she does see you know that when she speaks to you she knows you and your child personally. She works very long hours(always catch her late at nite on computer) doing her upmost to secure jobs for Bizzykidz children. She will always give you an honest opinion. My daughter has been with them about 6 months and she has had work (in Angelina magazine the other week which was fab)but we know that it may not be a regular thing so treat it as a little bonus. The photoshoot session Bizzykidz do show you how it is in a real shoot or casting with lots of kids coming and going, lots of waiting around etc etc. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Bizzykidz and parents I have met on jobs all agree that they are a very good agency. In my opinion I would think it best to stick with one agency at first to see if your child enjoys it before signing up with more. That way you dont need to part with too much money if you decide its not for you. Good Luck anyway x

2ManyPimms · 19/10/2005 11:50

No one is suggesting that they do not work hard to bring the work through to our children. That was never in question.

What I had been looking for (in a rather indirect fashion) were experiences with either Bizzykidz or other agencies. Having heard so much negativity about the industry in general, I entered into this with a healthy dose of skepticism. Input from parents with children in the business is important - at least to me.

workfromhomemum · 20/10/2005 14:51

i have been reading this thread for some time now with interest,my child is registered with bizzy kidz and from my experiance they are by far one of the best agencies. my child was lucky enough to get an assignment almost straight away, which she throughly enjoyed but i don't have great expectations that she will get loads of work, i look at it that she was fortunate to get the one job, and if she gets any thing else then that is a bonus, i think that booker you should use your precious time off(which i'm sure it is)to sleep and not to worry, i'm sure you have enough on your plate without the added concerns on whats being said on mumsnet, from what i've read bizzykidz seems to be talked about more than any agency with nearly 100% positive feedback and the only negatives your getting are from mums who's children haven't had work(yet)which i feel is not fair, when you join any agency you are told the work is not guarnteed and do you think that any agency in there right mind is going to agree to take a child on and then not put him or her forward for work and we all must remember that once our child has been put forward it then is out of the agencies hands. lastly i would like to say to booker that you must remember about all the children you have given the opportunity to shine and you have made so many parents proud. thanks

madmummyof2 · 20/10/2005 15:33

wow what a massive thread. taken me a good half hour and not even got through a fifth of it!

anyway i just wanted to say in response to a comment yonks ago...my son has SN and he was on the books of a modelling agency when he was younger. he did a few shoots and i only removed him becasue he didnt enjoy the amount of people being around him anymore...the agency would have preferred me to keep him on the books (little rascals)

i have considered putting my daughter up (13 months) but it would be difficult making it to shoots with my son's school requirments.

mamamia11 · 20/10/2005 17:03

What a great thread this is !! I just got an interview for my child with Little Acorns and was wondering if anyone has a view on them, as a agent ?
Also got a rejection from Elisabeth Smith -by email- which i found extremely cold, nevertheless i heard they are a very reputable agency so it's a shame.

Gumbee · 20/10/2005 18:56

My daughter is with Bizzykidz and has been for just over a year. I mentioned in an earlier post that the fee was £40 in fact it was £80, but I still think that fee was extremely reasonable as it is not a yearly fee like some other agencies. I was recently asked to go for an assessment at Rascals, but declined as the person on the phone was quite short with me, sounded very disinterested and said that if she was to be accepted then it would cost £155 to go in model book and £125 for photos. I will therefore just stay with Bizzykidz as have no problems with them and they always reply to any queries I have by e-mail very quickly.

hahahehe · 20/10/2005 20:13

hiya gumbee,
I like you was put off by 'rascals' because of the costs and they charge them yearly!! By the way I have heard that 2 is a very 'sparse' age as directors think all 2 year olds suffer from the 'terrible twos' and try and avoid them!! Not sure if thats true but thats what I was told!!

tinkerbellchelle · 23/10/2005 22:20

My baby boy has been put forward to bizzykidz model agency and unsure about what choice to make?

hahahehe · 24/10/2005 09:22

Hi Tinkerbellechelle
You are currently with Rascals aren't you? You may want to double check the contract and see if they request 'sole representation'. Alot of agencies request it and I do don't think you can join another agency until the contract runs out. Bizzykidz are personally excellent for us -there is loads of stuff about them on this thread but I don't think its fair to make a decision based onother peoples comments. Experience is the best tool! Unfortunately, this business is a waiting game!

tinkerbellchelle · 24/10/2005 11:07

Hiya hahahehe ( think I got it right )
Yeah see our actually contract with rascals doesnt start till dec1st and we ahvent yet paid the fee's
So Im in between now and I have heard so much more about bizzykidz etc
How old is you littleones and you say there excellent for you... do u mind me asking what type of work u have had
Thank you so much x

hahahehe · 24/10/2005 12:39

My little treasure is 6 months - and I say that BK are good for us is because I personally find them very easy to deal with. They are easy to talk to, they always answer your emails the same day and they are upfront and honest about the industry. Also, there are no joining/yearly fees (only a one off website fee which is different) and you don't have to go for an intruduction meeting. We have been with them a couple of months and have been lucky enough to have a couple of auditions and a couple of jobs which I am over the moon with. The way I approach it is that if he does anything its a bonus!!! When I was looking into agencies I phoned a number of companies like M&S, BOOTS etc to find out what companies they used. You will find that the same names come up often. I have heard, but have NOT had any experience with, that MOT Junior and Bruce & Brown are also good.

P.S- This is MY PERSONAL OPINION only before anyone 'jumps' on me!!!!

DizzyD · 24/10/2005 13:28

I'm still reading rather than contributing to this thread as I don't yet have any personal experience of the agencies mentioned. Needless to say I have applied to BizzyKidz and to EuroKids & Adults (both I understand to be reputable agencies)despite some of the outrageous comments that have been made further down this thread....What can I say - the postings from FlorenceFlying nearly had me weeing myself!! In summary - some people should not be taken too seriously....

tinkerbellchelle · 24/10/2005 13:57

wow hahahehe thats brilliant for you, like you said we have the same attitude if he gets anything then its a bonus.
I have to say I have found them so so pleasant so far to deal with and I think my mind is made up.

DizzyD Good luck with your applications and you will have to let us know how it all goes.

lanismum · 24/10/2005 14:08

my little girl is with bizzykidz, shes only been with them a couple of months and hasnt had any work so far, but everytime i have e-mailed or called the agency, all the staff have been lovely and have answered my questions really quickly, also, i was at a photoshoot for the model book on the 11th sept, and it was all very professional, waited a while, but i expected that, thankfully, my little one seemed to like having her photos taken, and we were finished in minutes!

hahahehe · 24/10/2005 15:25

Tinkerbellchelle: good luck with whoever you decide to go with and keep us updated. We may bump onto you as my little one is a real tiddler too!!!
DizzyD: I like you prefer to read rather then contribute .....but as everything seems to have calmed down from the 'florence flying' days I felt it safe to post!!! Are you northern based?? I only ask because I think Eurokids are northern based and the furthest south they will except is Oxford? but don't qoute me!!
Lanismum: i will keep my fingers crossed that something comes your little girls way soon.

lanismum · 24/10/2005 15:36

thanks!!!!

tinkerbellchelle · 24/10/2005 16:14

I know there were some strange times on this thread!! Like you've both said it now feels safe to post.
LanisMum.... Im in process of choosing agencies and one we've been offered is Bizzykidz so its nice to hear another good story from them and I have to say I am really happy with there communication etc they seem so friendly and so willing to help.
Good luck to everyone and lets all keep in touch on here with how things go x
