msteejay · 03/10/2005 16:36

Hi, have been reading through thread...really interesting & informative. Has anyone heard of BMA Models?

tinkerbellchelle · 04/10/2005 11:02

I have heard of juliet adams but personally myself have not had any experience of them. There may be a mum on here who may have some experience.
BMA models I've not heard of, again tho there may be some mummies who have.

I found when I was choosing my son's agency that doing some searches on the search engines helped as I was able to find different reviews from other people.

The agencies I've heard of for being good are :-
Rascals
Scallywags
Urban Angels
Norrie Carr
Elisabeth Smith

There are probably loads more but thats just personally for me one's I've heard are good.

Which agencies have you tried cinders? As it sounds like you have a couple of offers? As there may be some mums who can help and recommend which agency.
Also when you go for interviews with them its a good time to get a feel for what they are like xxx Hope this helps xxx

msteejay · 04/10/2005 13:32

Thanks Tinkerbellchelle: I've done lots of searches and the good agencies seem to be the ones you've mentioned plus MOT Junior and Bizzykidz. My son's 3 and gorgeous (obviously I think so ), but just like other parents we get friends, family telling us "he should do modelling"! I'm doing my research at the moment and having a good think about whether HE would enjoy it... All the advice here has been a great help though - thanks.

ronniebaby · 04/10/2005 13:42

Can anyone find the info from Watchdog as I cant find it and I'd be interested in reading it???

2ManyPimms · 04/10/2005 14:21

Glad I found this thread....

Just signed my DS up with Bizzykidz a couple of months back and attended a model book shoot this past weekend. What a zoo! Kids, mums and dads EVERYWHERE! Apparently, they are trying to simulate a real casting environment - YOIPS! I was a bit disappointed as they did not have an example of a past model book on hand nor did they know the approximate number of models they have on their books. There was a woman from Bizzykidz with the photographer and I assumed that she would be assessing DS (as it had mentioned in their email to me) but it was quite, "ooohhhh, he is easy to photograph - you don't have any bad shots of this child!" - not entirely what I had expected. I had a feeling that it was pretty much the same reaction for all the other children as well...

They did have a folder on hand of invoices and requests from past jobs but I was hoping to cast my eye over the model book.

Will wait and see what happens...

cinders2 · 04/10/2005 22:37

Just been surfing and found that "mumsnet" had a similar topic about modelling back in 2003-2004 many of the modelling agencies mentioned in there are also in here including the infamous MD.
Tinkerbellchelle I can't believe your dd is only 3 months you seem like a pro! So has he done any work yet? Have tried several agencies just for fun didn't think we'd get any replies, let alone 4 offers! Most of the agencies I've tried have been mentioned but sadly our local agencies only take children from 3-5yrs!
Just out of interest can you at anytime terminate a contract if dd isn't happy? TTFN X

tinkerbellchelle · 05/10/2005 07:10

Well he has been put forward for a discovery channel programme but we didnt do that and we were waiting yesterday to hear about a 9 day filming part with holby city. He didnt get it however as the director decided he wanted a girl baby and our little boy looks very boyish so it didnt work out but for us has been a good start. We've done some photos with venture they were fantastic and that was when they mentioned about him modelling cos he was so chilled and relaxed.

With Rascals we have to give 2 months notice if we want to leave.

The reason I know alot is cos of all the help from other mummies on here and also some other website which I go on. Its great to get help and advice.

Hope all this helps and remember keep us updated with which decision. x

manicma · 09/10/2005 21:39

Hi all! I discovered this web site a couple of months ago, and have decided to share my own ( and 2 kids) experience of the "modelling world" It seems that a lot of people are keeping "mum" about the agencies their kids are with, in fear that other peoples children may go there, and take away work or there could be less work for there kids! Why?Good agencies will only take on kids ( not always the most beautiful) onto their books IF they feel the child will be chosen to get work, hence commission for them ( helps pay the bills and staff!) as they know what the clients are looking for, as good agencies have big clients that return again and again, so share info on the good agencies and help others get a good agencies.
The "modelling world" hasn't been all great! My two girls 10 yrs and 4yrs have been represented by agents ( may be on modelling books, but not a model til you've done some modeeling work) for 20 months! The first agency JULIET ADAMS, what a mare of an agency, AVOID!!!!! interview fees approx £25 per child, £185 for online portfolio, £ 20 here and there to update it, it goes on! But I didn't do my homework and paid! So ok my eldest did get a casting, a commercial, and a few inquries, but the agency is a shambles. Crap managent, very late payment ( took 25% of my daughter and £5 admin. She missed out on work because of Shona's lack of knowledge, re. child license. Also as new agency ( less than 2 yrs old) clients generally pass less or on a budget! We manged to get the money back from jobs that we have paid her, and are happy to have told her where to stick it. Also alot of people have been asking about terminating contracts, no good modelling agency will have a formal contract from you, apparently as they can not guarentee you work, they legally can't have one!
To the best bit, the good ones. My two girls are with Bizzy Kidz and M.O.T Junior! Bizzykidz were quiet for the first 6 months ( we have been with them a year) we had nothing, except a couple of enquiries, then its gone mad, magazine photoshoots, sports catologues, national newspapers etc my kids have love it. They are brilliant helpful, excellent communication and support network. The other agency is MOT Junior, they are excellent, very well established, as a adult modelling agency first, then introduced the Junior, so lots of big clients, within 2 weeks of joining, they both did girls magazine photshoots and a big superstore campaign and catologues! They are fantastic, get a lot of work in for the kids and they are happy for parents to turn down jobs that they can't or don't wanna do, there is plenty of work. The reason I take my 2, if that my eldest begged to do it, the youngest just fell into it! Hope I have helped!!!! P.s I also like Bizzy Kidz as they have a theatrical agency also! Which saves seperate agency's Good luck to all! ( god knows i needed it!) p.p.s make sure you do your homework, and apply to a few reputable agencies, see them all if you want then make your choice. p.p.p.s if you find good ones, you won't have enough time to go with more than two agencies, and alot of clients go to several agencies for the one job, so they have plenty of choice ! Gotta gox

2ManyPimms · 10/10/2005 12:23

Manicma - thanks for sharing your experiences with those agencies. I have been sitting here wondering if I have made the right decision to go with Bizzykidz. Patience, I guess, will go a long way. MOT Junior has been given many "thumbs-up" from others as well so I might send in photos of DS to see what they think. Unfortuantely, with Xmas coming up, I don't have lots of extra cash to put towards another agency.

Again, thanks.

hahahehe · 11/10/2005 23:11

Hi 2manypimms...... we were due to go to the photoshoot on sunday but weren't able to make it - were you pleased with the pictures??? How old is your little one?? Only we may bump into you at the next audition if they are a similar age. Also, just to give you confidence....we have had a number of auditions and a couple of jobs (one confirmed today!) and we have only been with them for a couple of months - so be patient-your time will come!

2ManyPimms · 12/10/2005 13:41

HaHa: Hey there! DS is 5. I only had a quick look at the photos when the shoot was finished. They looked fairly good (and I am quite fussy about such things). Because it was a quick in and out situation, there wasn't the pressure to perform for the camera so he looked quite relaxed.

How old is your little one? D0 you have professional shots on the website or just casual snaps? Wish I knew how many boys are on the books for my son's age group. I counted the 5 year old boys from the website but feel like there should be more...

Just sent in snaps to MOT Junior and am waiting feedback.

Perhaps DS's "interesting look" is not what the companies need at the moment.

Waiting and waiting!

hahahehe · 12/10/2005 20:19

2manypimms: my bambino is 6 months and because their changing all the time I just send new snapshots as and when needed. Good luck with MOT .... I have seen their website and they look good.

manicma · 13/10/2005 14:26

2MANYPIMMS: Glad you found my posting useful! And yep your right on the patience bit!!! Agencies will tell you that sometimes the demand is high for babies, then it drys up, then its 10 year olds, there is no way of telling! Although why do you feel the need to find out how many boys are being represented by the agency, the amount doesns't matter to how many jobs you get, in face more the merrier, as casting agencies will use the modelling agencies as they have more of a choice, and as I said in my last message, they don't only look at 1 agency, my daughter had a casting recently and 7 other agencies were being used, and at magazine photoshoots she has modelled with kids from various different agencies. The casting directors will already know exactly what they are look for, eg. blonde, blue eyes, in between a certain height and coloring etc, they look at thousands of kids, so other kids the same age, or similar, aren't necessarily a threat!!!!! My daughter has recently missed out on 2 really good jobs, one for tesco, but was 1.5 cm to small, and another for her skin colouring ( she's very olived skinned). There are no guaretees in this work! Lots of luck for your kiddo, hope he enjoys the work, and you enjoy the waiting around and often last minute arranging of trips to London!!!!( thats if you don't already live there!) Also why not wait to join him to another agency! I didn't have to pay MOT anything, they pay your model entry fee into there book ( £60) and take it off your 1 st job! So they want it back, they will find you work! Anyway better dash, I've got a holiday to pack for! Hooray!

Gumbee · 13/10/2005 15:13

My daughter is with Bizzykidz and has been for just over a year now. She is 2 years old and has only had one casting which she wasn't selected for. However, not that bothered, only paid £40 and that is the only fee to pay until she is 17. I did however enquire recently at MOT Junior as I heard good reports about it but they replied saying they had too many children on their books of my daughters age.

2ManyPimms · 13/10/2005 17:26

Manic - enjoy your holiday!!! I have been investigating MOT and was going to post a question WRT their fees but you answered that! Sent the photos in on the 10th and expect to hear before the end of the month.

Seems the industry is a bit feast or famine.

Patience, patience and more patience.

manicma · 13/10/2005 21:14

GUMBEE! Hi! I have found with bizzkidz, that they ahve found alot more work for my 10 year old than, my daughters just turned 4, and has only had 1 job, but my eldest is 10 and worked none stop for 6 weeks, this summer, depends on bizzykidz clients, and the age they are looking for! RE. MOT, I know through working with them and meeting them, that they like to try and know the kids and limit numbers, as not to have too many, as agencies like Rascals have over 1000 kids on their books, and suppose are off putting to casting directors, or it could have quite simply be that they feel with the clients they have at the minute, will not use the look of your child, although others will think your child is fantastic for their casting directors. I would say either stay with Bizzykidz and look for another agent, scallywags and Elizabeth smith are fantastic, my friends kids are with them and busy!
2MANYPIMMS
Good eve!!!!!! Good luck with MOT, I look forward to hearing your news, when I return from my hols!
Off to finish packing now!

LilMissHappy · 14/10/2005 07:43

Manicma - do Bizzykidz allow you to be with two agencies?

hahahehe · 14/10/2005 09:36

I know that Scallywags have currently closed their books until the new year and are not accepting any new faces!

crunchie · 14/10/2005 09:46

MOT is really good my kids are with them. We don't pay to be in their book, as explained it comes off their earnings. We do pay for the shoot however, as it is a payment to the photographer. BUT we get a great shoot once a year for £100 (2 kids) and so it is worth it in some ways. I am very ambivilant about the whole thing. I trun down loads of work due to school commitments and work for me and dh. I also refuse to do most castings - waste of time/money. But I do a few Toys r us/Asda type things a year and that is it. I speak to Nikki all the time and ask if we should really keep the girls on the books, but she is happy, so we are too.

2ManyPimms · 14/10/2005 17:30

Drat! We just got a call from Bizzykidz about a casting on Monday but the shoot itself would be on the 27th and we are away for the hols! A bit surprised that they didn't have record of my email to them with Julian's availability dates. Alas.

Well - it is a start!!!!!!!!!!

manicma · 14/10/2005 17:43

LilMissHappy! Yep bizzykidz are more than happy, I spoke to my kids booker before I approached MOT, and they said as we have no contract and work is never guarenteed they are happy for you to go to another agent! Off to Morocco in the morn! Hip hip Horray! See you all later!

music1 · 15/10/2005 23:50

Hi everybody
I am knew here . I have been following the discussion on the background for a while but I now have some difficulties with Bizzykidz.
They took my daughter out of the website as apparantly you need to send a doctor certificate every 6 months and they want £30.00 to reinstate her.
Has anybody else experienced the same?

I have only been with Bizzykidz for a couple of months so our Dr's note is still valid. What I will need to do is to write them and ask what the date of the note is and mark off five months from that date. (mental note to do so...)

Jeez. I think that is cheek - 30 quid to "reinstate"! No warning either!

GRRRRRRRRRR....
