I will confest to having one arrive in the post today.
Wondering where im gonna keep it out the way of the kids...without losing it entirely.
And also, do you have to wear a pad Just In Case?

where do you keep your tampons? It is much more discreet than a packet of tampax, with a nice little cotton bag to keep it in.

I would check it quite frequently till you've worked out how long you can safely leave it.

you don't need a pad (except maybe at night) - it won't leak if it's in properly.

charliecat · 25/05/2006 10:40

I keep my tampons in a HUGE box shoved in the cupboard next to the loo...if I put it in there I will lose it. Thinking of hanging it up in the bathroom behind the blindGrin
Glad to hear its not gonna leak too easily :)

Yeah, I just keep it in a drawer in the bathroom - no more interesting to kids than tampons.
Mooncups are brilliant - I haven't bought any sanitary protection for months now and it really works. No leaks at all! I'm very grateful to MN for enlightening me!

I keep mine in the bathroom cabinet which is in the en-suite on the wall. Neither of my two have ever tried to go in there. Although DD does insist on coming and looking down the loo and going "dirty, urgh, yuk" at the top of her voice. But she does that all month for "other" things anyway. Doesn't bother me at home but find it a bit trying in a public cubicle. Generally while I am trying to keep her away from the sanitary disposal unit - seem to hold a fascination for both my children.

NomDePlume · 25/05/2006 10:44

The leakage thing is really interesting, I'm pretty squeamish about the idea of emptying them, but the lack of leakage is a MAJOR pro.

tissy · 25/05/2006 10:44

I've got one. Keep it in my knicker drawer!

misdee · 25/05/2006 10:46

i have one. its in my bathroom cabinet in its bag ready for next time,

Hallgerda · 25/05/2006 12:28

Good luck! I found mine a little awkward at first but am now thoroughly converted. Do try it on and adjust the stem length before you really need to use it. No, you don't have to wear a pad just in case. Yes, do keep it out of the way of the kids (mine lives in its bag on the bedside table when not in use) or you may find it ends up as the exterminating arm of a Dalek!

Keep it in a corner of the bathroom or in my bag. Never needed a just-in-case pad.

Ooh, quite interested now but one question, how do you clean it?

lunavix · 25/05/2006 19:01

I've been thinking it's really ick, isn't it? Doesn't it get stinky?

I've seen lots of san pro thingys advertised and I think they're grim, but at least you just rinse this I spose?

gigglinggoblin · 25/05/2006 19:07

i have one, its life-alteringly fantastic Grin

give it a quick wash out in the sink when at home, wipe it out with a tissue if in a public loo and boil to sterilise once a month when its not in use. you dont have to change it as often as pads tho, so i have not yet had to do it in a public loo

it feels similar to a teat from a babys bottle but a bit more sturdy, easy to rinse

LunaMoona · 25/05/2006 19:11

Mine is on my bedside table atm. I am still getting used to it - have trimmed stem but still uncomfortable. Will persevere though as am determined not to have to continue to buy tampons or sanny pads.

dewmeadow · 25/05/2006 19:13

sorry to be so behind, but what is a mooncup?

fullmoonfiend · 25/05/2006 19:17

i tried to buy one this week in boots - after a very embarrassing convo (It's a WHAT? Oh goodness no, I really don't think we'd sell anything like that' she said. She trundled off and came back to explain they had had some in ''a mistake' order, but they'd sold out and no, they wouldn't be getting any more in...'')

Felt like saying ''but they sold out - doesn't that tell you there is a demand FFS!''
Couldn't help wondering if all the purchasers were Mnetters Grin

Piffle · 25/05/2006 19:19

me, you will wear a pad for first few cycles as you will not believe it works.
And to get adjusted to how long you can leave it etc.
You simply empty in the loo, rinse under tap and off you go
Got to admit it makes it such less of a hassle
I'm still about ?????????????? about nighttime though

Tommy · 25/05/2006 19:25

I have one but didn't really get on with it the first time I used it so it's still in its little bag in my bedside drawer.
One day I might acyually try again!
