I will confest to having one arrive in the post today.
Wondering where im gonna keep it out the way of the kids...without losing it entirely.
And also, do you have to wear a pad Just In Case?

Just to remind you all that once you reach a Certain Age you don't need anything...(menopause not all bad then! Grin)

I would have tried it though, before. Do they do different capacities, like normal/super/superplus tampons, or is it one-size-fits-all?

sugarfree · 26/05/2006 21:58

two sizes(looking at the website)

spidermama · 26/05/2006 21:58

They have two sizes. One for women who have given birth vaginally and one for women who haven't.

To do with vaginal tone more than capacity.I am cheered by the fact that there is only 3mm difference in the two as far as I can see.

sugarfree · 26/05/2006 22:00

Over and under 30 too.
Rats! A few years past tight as a drum despite my honeymoonfreshness.

JanH · 26/05/2006 22:01

Ah - bit like a diaphragm then. But all the same capacity? That must make life hard for the heavy bleeders!

Well I'm speaking as a former heavy bleeder (sorry if TMI!) and lillets superplus barely lasted 1 hour on a bad day - I was wondering if a mooncup would have done better than that (some months I was pleasantly surprised not to have bled to death in the night!)

Now there's a party trick.......!

CarolinaMoose · 27/05/2006 19:14

they are a decent size - eggcup-volume rather than diaphragm-sized. bet it could hold a lot more than a super Tampax for example (and it doesn't start falling out when it's full either Smile).

I got mine in boots.

Bozza · 27/05/2006 19:25

Reading these threads makes me realise just how heavily I have been bleeding at some points. I have had days where my mooncup has been leaking seriously in 1 -1.5 hours. And it was inserted properly - just full to capacity. This was both before and after having the implanon. Then I went to the doctor and she started talking about inconvenient spotting. Angry

NannyL · 27/05/2006 20:46

I will be getting a moon cup when i run out of tampax.... in about 2 months time i guess

One of my best freinds uses one and LOVES it.

I have a very light flow and have been waiting all year (since December 2005, when she finally convinced me) to finish my 1 1/2 boxes of tampax etc!

Jbck · 27/05/2006 23:04

Am I being dense here, how do you put it in? I presume the rim is flexible and if so, then how do you get it out without a bit of a mess? Plus how do you manage in say the loos at work where you don't have a sink in the cubicle, do you have to have 2 & just pop the used one in a little bag till you get home. I can hardly see myself rinsing it out in front of my colleagues Blush

plummymummy · 27/05/2006 23:16

Ok dh is intrigued. Wants to know how big it is, how does it fit, how does it stay up there?!!! Also wants to know if there is a picture.

Spagblog · 28/05/2006 07:17

It folds to get in and then springs into shape.
I only have to empty it twice a day, so can avoid having to do so in public.
It's about the size of an eggcup.

suzywong · 28/05/2006 07:23

Hi Spagblog Smile

I think I should get one, but there is no washbasin in the lav in our house, will this be....ahem...messy?

monkeytrousers · 28/05/2006 07:34

hmmm. It might be. Defo don't want to find yourself in there with no bog roll either - but lets get this in context, we're not talking dirty nappies here. We're a hardy bunch. Grin

Spagblog · 28/05/2006 08:13

Hi suzywong - might be messy.
I wouldn't want to waddle to another room to clean it and then waddle back - or am I the only one who waddles?

JanH · 28/05/2006 10:46

If you keep a packet of babywipes in your loo you could clear up the worst of the gore before you exit, suzy.

(Or does the mooncup have to be properly washed before it goes back in? Or do you need to have 2 and rotate them?)

JanH · 28/05/2006 10:49

Bozza, are you still bleeding that heavily? I used to reckon, by Lillets' claimed absorbency rates, that I was losing a good half-pint of blood every period, and my cycle was less than 28 days so it was about 7 pints a year, which was a scary thought considering they only let you donate blood every 6 months. Have you been back to your doctor and stamped your foot about it?

AllieBongo · 28/05/2006 10:51

i haven't read the whole of this thread, but the size, shape, function bit. Is there any risk of infection by keeping the blood inside? I have v heavy periods so do they do a moon barrel?

monkeytrousers · 28/05/2006 11:09

less risk that with tampons, no risk of toxic shock for example as the materials don't harbour bacteria. I'm very heavy for the first two days and it does me.
