My second thread. The first is awaiting deletion due to details that were in the thread.

Basically, my brother is in intensive care with multiple stab wounds, he is stable, but critical. So he could go either way.

At the moment it doesn't feel real to me, I feel like I'm in a soap or something! It's very surreal :(

MelodyBaker · 15/01/2013 17:33

How Is he today?

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife · 15/01/2013 19:11

Todays update! They have reduced his sedation now because it's good for his physiological awareness so he is now listening and responding too by flickering his eyes moving his head and hand. He has squeezed my mums fingers a few times and pulled a few faces too! He's not as puffy (his face was really really puffy) no longer on kidney machine, the drains out, heart rate and oxygen good. He's doing well. Also would you be able to get rat out again tomorrow? Also need some more if u couldd poss go to trimpets? X

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife · 15/01/2013 19:14

Woops, I was copying and pasting my mums texts and editing a few bits and forgot to delete the last bit Blush

If anyone is wondering what the 'get a rat out' bit is about, my mum has a pet snake.

Horsemad · 15/01/2013 19:15

That's great news but I'm not sure about the rat?!! And trimpets???

Horsemad · 15/01/2013 19:15

Cross post!! Grin

LegoAcupuncture · 15/01/2013 19:18

Grin at you c&ping your mums text.

So glad he is doing well. He certainly is amazing!

makeloveyourgoal · 15/01/2013 19:22

Thanks for today's update! David certainly has a lot of people keeping him in there thoughts and prayers.

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife · 15/01/2013 19:26

Trimpets is the pet shop where the snakes rats come from.

Horsemad · 15/01/2013 20:18

Ah, I see Cunny Smile

ripsishere · 16/01/2013 00:17

Fabulous news funny. Not so sure about getting rats out of trumpets. It sounds like an especial warped magician.
I know it isn't much of a consideration, but, presumably he has a urinary catheter. I would check that they are clamping and releasing. I had one in for about a month. I am still vaguely incontinent.

mistlethrush · 16/01/2013 09:21

Great news Cunny!

Sunnywithshowers · 16/01/2013 10:28

That's fab news Cunny :)

BitBewildered · 16/01/2013 23:06

Excellent news Cunny! It sounds like he's making great progress. Thanks for updating, it's still the first thing I check when I'm here!

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife · 16/01/2013 23:31

Todays update, He is still the same physically. Lungs not yet started to heal though most of his wounds are healing well or healed. He's back on the kidney machine just to help control fluid levels better.
The Ecmo machine is keeping him alive and stable enough for them to have reduced his sedation. This is why he's been responding to us in small ways. The responses show that his brain is okay.
But the very fact that he's still on Ecmo means he's still very poorly indeed. They are letting him wake up slightly but only to a point. They will keep him sedated until he's well enough to come off the Ecmo. This time is approaching but no one can say how long it wil be.
Days or weeks even. Hopefully days.

PickledApples · 17/01/2013 00:40

Slow progress. Good to hear he is still being watched and treated / monitored closely since moving to the ward too.

ripsishere · 17/01/2013 00:52

Doesn't matter whether it's weeks, days or months. He's moving in the right direction.

StillSlightlyCrumpled · 17/01/2013 03:44

So pleased he is improving, even if it just baby steps. You must all be so drained now.

Take care.

lunar1 · 17/01/2013 18:57

Glad David is continuing to make progress even if it is slow. Are you still staying at the hospital?

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife · 17/01/2013 19:55

No I'm not, I haven't been since he first got there :( DP is a gritter driver and has been on call constantly since last week so we haven't been able to get there :(

My mum went and stayed for a few days this week though, she got back yesterday. I really want to go soon though, but it takes a lot of planning.
