It flipping well isn't!

I would have posted this on my original thread but can't find the damn thing, sorry Blush

I have to get up at 2am to work, and I didn't even feel so sick with nerves on my wedding day, it was an awful feeling.... hopefully my confidence will kick in for tonights graveyard shift....

You get callers who want to do awful things and you have to hang up, you get really rude people saying you're sh*te who hang up in the middle of your conversation... you get people pestering for your address and you're not allowed to hang up just dissaude them... and then you get hilarious weirdos! But then I couldn't think of anything much to say and my calls lasted about 7 minutes each... and each one was as nerve-wracking as the first!

Is anyone else who was interested in the chatline thing working yet?

(Please let tonight be better than last night!)

so you said that this pays around £9 per hour. what if say, cleaning (toilets etc) paid around the same (and it doesn't, i know).. which would you rather do?

I can't quite determine that one for me. I mean, I know I'm a man so I don't have the option but if I was a women, I can't quite figure out which one I would like to do.

Cleaning can be crap but chatlines could get to your brain a bit. i guess it all depends on what kind of person you were. I don't think the chat thing would get to me. I reckon i could do it and be glad i didn't take the cleaning option.

hmmm.

desperateSCOUSEstrife · 13/04/2006 10:24

I would scrub loos for £9 an hour
lets face it I do it now for freeSad

DaddyCool · 13/04/2006 10:25

saying that, i tried telemarketing years ago when i was backpacking and I lasted all of about 20 minutes before walking out.... and that was for a reputable charity!... but it was the cold calling people who really didn't want to talk to me which got to me.

these people want to talk to you and you're providing a service so maybe it would be different.

DaddyCool · 13/04/2006 10:27

yeah scouse but some men's public toilets are incredibly disgusting. you wouldn't believe.

for instance, i work for a nice upmarket high-tech company with posh entrance halls and well kept toilet facilities.... but you can bet your ass they'll still be piss all over the floor by the end of the day.

(who does that i wonder. i find it very weird)

pubs/night clubs - I've got a strong stomach but even i have found myself gagging a bit. it's f*cking third world.

desperateSCOUSEstrife · 13/04/2006 10:30

dc i used to clean the loos mens and womens when was a barmaid
so have seen the state of the walls and all the pebbledashing that they do
Grin

DaddyCool · 13/04/2006 10:31

gross eh.

it's the piss all over the floor that gets me. i mean, who does that?

I can't think of anyone i work with doing that... but obviously at least one of them do.

oh the things people do!

desperateSCOUSEstrife · 13/04/2006 10:34

especially when they have those troughs tbh
the piss is ridiculous,
but the shite is even worse
screechmarks and pebbledashing was unbelievable

DaddyCool · 13/04/2006 10:41

was it limited to the actual toilet though because seen it other places where the poo has ended up elsewhere.

desperateSCOUSEstrife · 13/04/2006 10:43

limited to the toilet thankfully

FastasleepInTheHellPit · 13/04/2006 12:21

DC I wasn't meaning to sound nasty.... it's a job that takes a while to get used to definately!!! And if I seem a bit funny with you, I'm having a stressy few weeks!!

I would chat, mainly because with public loos, forget the disgusting bodily fluid (of any type) you also get a helluva lot of needles and it's a really dangerous job!!!

FastasleepInTheHellPit · 13/04/2006 12:22

Scousey did you get to talk to Mark? Not really allowed to say that like though but nevermind, he seems to shy!! It's really funny!!

FastasleepInTheHellPit · 13/04/2006 12:24

so shy even

DonnaGee · 30/06/2014 23:32

I've been doing this for 7 years now for a reputable company and there are sometimes hard but can be fun too. I've never thought of the card index but that's a grand idea!! I might suggest it to the managers. I started when I was skint and now I'm not I still do it to pay for the lovely added luxuries so good luck to all that try

AnotherSpinningFuckingRainbow · 30/06/2014 23:36

Wow, an eight year old thread!

DottyDooRidesAgain · 30/06/2014 23:42

8 years ago I might have been able to muster some sexy talk but now meh not so much Smile

Fast, I'm really impressed by your determination, imagination and humour! Leaving the ethics of the thing right out of it - because we have to play to the market sometimes - I really hope you manage to get really slick at the job AND keep your 'self' separate from it. Your management sounds pretty good, actually.

I snorted at 'shining with his sex juice'. For a brief time, I wrote readers' true experiences Grin for a top-shelf magazine. Varying the language was the trickiest part. I read loads of dirty stories, made creative use of my thesaurus, and wrote lists of euphemisms which I stuck to my office wall (raised a few eyebrows when visitors wandered in there.) Sex juice was definitely on a list! I had a formula that worked and the publishers didn't take my true experiences when I tried diverting from it. Packed it in because it got boring & depressing (and I ran out of credible scenarios.)

Definitely think it'll be helpful for you to create word lists and mini-plots that you can tailor for your clients. With any luck, you'll soon be able to credibly act a series of standard scenes with three-quarters of your attention elsewhere. Good luck! And 'boo' to all the callers, while also being pleased they're paying you Wink

GarlicJulyKit · 06/07/2014 02:09

Just saw this and thought of you Grin
