It flipping well isn't!

I would have posted this on my original thread but can't find the damn thing, sorry Blush

I have to get up at 2am to work, and I didn't even feel so sick with nerves on my wedding day, it was an awful feeling.... hopefully my confidence will kick in for tonights graveyard shift....

You get callers who want to do awful things and you have to hang up, you get really rude people saying you're sh*te who hang up in the middle of your conversation... you get people pestering for your address and you're not allowed to hang up just dissaude them... and then you get hilarious weirdos! But then I couldn't think of anything much to say and my calls lasted about 7 minutes each... and each one was as nerve-wracking as the first!

Is anyone else who was interested in the chatline thing working yet?

(Please let tonight be better than last night!)

I want to do it - I even looked up the link in your other thread but am still trying to guage DP's reaction to the idea.

Do the people who employ you make you do a test run, as it were?

Do they employ men too?

Sorry, too many questions!

expatinscotland · 08/04/2006 22:24

Nanny
I knew a straight bloke who worked a gay chatline nights and put himself thru a trades course w/it.

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 08/04/2006 22:28

replied expat :)

they don't employ men. They don't exactly do a test run but do do an intensive evening of training, telling you what you can and can't say, giving you tips, putting you at ease (the manager is actually really nice, although he is a man)

you also get a big booklet full of rules regs pay info, sections etc

cool. i really want to go to school full time. this could be a way. it's a legit biz so i don't see what the problem is.

SomethingAboutMary · 08/04/2006 22:30

How do you get paid & are you taxed on your earnings?

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 08/04/2006 22:31

You have to do your own tax, you are taxed, as a self employed person.

They pay you weekly, you give them your NI and account details. You send these to them with a detailed signed contract.

I never thought of it as easy money.. just as... yuk.... really

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 08/04/2006 22:32

But they only want graveyard workers atm, otherwise you can get on a waiting list. And I think the minimum amount of hours a week you can work is 20, although they can be whenever you want.

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 08/04/2006 22:32

(as long as you're willing to do some graveyard shift work!)

OP posts:
Nemo1977 · 08/04/2006 22:36

what are classed as graveyard?

Nemo1977 · 08/04/2006 22:36

and is £9 before or after tax?

nannyme · 08/04/2006 22:39

That would totally suit me as I am already self employed. Have been doing overnight maternity nannying in between clients as my business gets off the ground. (Made that sound like I am prostituting myself there when I said 'clients! oops). So tax, etc. would be no more complicated than it already is.

I am Mrs nocturnal and up half the night anyway usually mucking about on here or hitched so graveyard would suit me fine. I am going to email them!

How about you expat, are you going to go for it?!

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 08/04/2006 22:40

Ack nemo, before tax - it is 15p a minute as trainee (a few weeks of this) 18p a minute as a trained operator, add 3p to each minute for graveyard shift which is 2am - 10 am.

They don't expect you to work the whole shift, but will expect you to work within that period at least a few times a week. The minimum amount of hours you can work is 20..

are you sure you're interested nemo? Not the world's cheeriest job hun!

I'm not repeating myself again otherwise someone (cod probably) will come and shoot me, everyone esle will have to trawl through huge thread and my mishmash of fumbly posts!!

OP posts:
FastasleepInABunnySuit · 08/04/2006 22:42

Before this thread dies away and I forget to add this, if anyone gets the job etc etc we could maybe have a mini support groupy type thing?

Email me (addy below) if you get it and fancy having someone to laugh and cringe with :)

(I'll be on later no doubt going oh my god about something or other.. or trying to keep myself awake!)

Ledodgy · 08/04/2006 23:13

Nemo1977 · 08/04/2006 23:14

Shock em I am surprised...lol

Ledodgy · 08/04/2006 23:15

lol as i said on msn i need the money!

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 08/04/2006 23:16

You sign up with landline, but can change your number so any type of phone is ok, wherever you are. Logging on and off so you don't recieve calls is very easy and it does actually work!!
