To everyone who thinks working on a chatline is 'easy money'

It flipping well isn't!

I would have posted this on my original thread but can't find the damn thing, sorry Blush

I have to get up at 2am to work, and I didn't even feel so sick with nerves on my wedding day, it was an awful feeling.... hopefully my confidence will kick in for tonights graveyard shift....

You get callers who want to do awful things and you have to hang up, you get really rude people saying you're sh*te who hang up in the middle of your conversation... you get people pestering for your address and you're not allowed to hang up just dissaude them... and then you get hilarious weirdos! But then I couldn't think of anything much to say and my calls lasted about 7 minutes each... and each one was as nerve-wracking as the first!

Is anyone else who was interested in the chatline thing working yet?

(Please let tonight be better than last night!)

Just wanted to say that I admire you for putting aside your own discomfort at what you are doing in order to help support your family.

The punters can't see you or touch you so they've no idea what you look like when you are out shopping and you are safe. Bar work puts you at the mercy of all sorts of lecherous sods and hands on sex work (even just lapdancing) means you have to let them see you too.

Me, I'd fancy domination work if I were in the same situation, that way I'd get my housework done for free too although telephone a dominatrix wouldn't have that added benefit.

I'm sure it will get easier once you've got a little repertoire of fatasies/stories.

If the pay works out at £9 an hour I'd stick with it. Do you get paid for the amount of time you are "logged on and available" or just for the time spent actually talking to a caller ?

I get payed for the amount of time I'm on the phone, so atm because I'm not brilliant I'm earning about 6.50 an hour, but that will improve :)...

I lasted 4 hours last night, then got a very sore throat and was too knackered to carry on - but thinking that's a good start :)

not so nervous anymore, but feintaly need to buil on my stories lol

Do you ever get to meet the other workers? It would be useful to know you could talk to them about their experiences, pay rates, etc.

I did find an american board for people who work on chatlines but it's not really useful for payrates etc for uk people..

you never know I might start my own one Wink!

They do have a free agony aunt on call if you have a horrendous upsetting call though, which is comforting.

yes, that is something. Well, if you do find any mumsnetters here join your chatline, you can at least exchange notes with them.

It might be very good to know the pay rate of other workers in the company, especially if you work there for a while, just to check you are all getting approx the same deal.

I got your message! Did ya get mine back? I'm stuck in my job for at least three months after I come back from maternity, otherwise I have to pay back a LOT of money. BUT, after that, I'm free, free, free Grin.

I guess that's just the American in me, but a buck is a buck as far as I'm concerned. As long as it's earned by legitimate means, more power to ya!

It's going better, although I've knakcered myself already this week and I feel very run down (I'm meant to be just working huge weekend shifts and two small week shifts but we're going to my parents on Friday so have been a bit scuppered!)

Got my first invoice through for 2 days work (only 4 hours) and it's quite good lol

it has a list of call durations at the bottom with poor/average etc and the last one is 6 minutes plus (per call) = superb... guess what my average was....

7 minutes!! so I got a big bold superb call holding times, well done at the bottom, like being at school again lol!!

Hey... they don't pay me by the minute they pay me by the Second the persnickety little..

so for a call that was 1 minute 13 (I don't get payed the first minute) I got payed 3 p instead of fifteen p because they calculate it to the exact time, I was naively thinking I got fifteen p!

Glad to hear you're OK. Please don't overdo it and make yourself ill though. How on earth are you managing on so little sleep, I'd turn into a monster if I had to get up at 2am and work.

fa have got the application through for this but am a bit concerned at the paying of tax etc as it makes out that I will become self-employed

dh doesnt mind, thinks i will be good at it, he approves as long as the kids cant hear it iykwim
and i wake up between 4-5am anyway

dd1 and dd2 are a bit disgusted
but dd3 and ds1 are buzzing and think it is cool

I haven't been able to find text jobs as I was looking for those too! Had no info on them via CAT or anything.... I'll mail you flutterbee :)

I get payed 15p a minute (but that seems to be per 60 seconds rather than rounded up!) with a late night bonus after 2am...

I was thinking of maybe starting a board for uk PSOs (phone sex operators) so we could swap notes etc (there's a US one somewhere but totally useless really for UK girls)
