Yep, but not for much longer as he's leaving later this year. I'm delighted!

BellaLasagne · 22/03/2006 14:06

P.S. Munz is one too, she's just had a gorgeous baby boy.

There was a thread about this last year,I think there's quite a few. Good luck finding more Smile

scotchlass · 22/03/2006 14:10

I'm a Navy wife :)

sharklet · 22/03/2006 15:13

Hi there I'm an Airforce wife. Dh is away at the moment - so I'm not enjoying being a forces wife right now!

saltire · 22/03/2006 16:14

I'm an RAF wife as well whose DH is away .

sharklet · 22/03/2006 16:18

Where are you based Saltaire? I'm a US Airforce wife but hubby is based over here at RAF Welford / Fairford.

sharklet · 22/03/2006 16:18

Any of you Navy Wives based down in Plymouth?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 22/03/2006 16:20

me and munz are army wives..... its CRAP and i cant wait for him to get out!

He will either be admin discharged in may or will sign off, we are hoping for the first obviously!

sharklet · 22/03/2006 16:21

My ex Bf was in the army - it is crap, I htink its the hardest one of all to deal with as a partner! When do they escape?

saltire · 22/03/2006 16:21

I'm in Scotland. I used to know a lot of USAF wives when I lived at RAF Wyton, they were based at RAF Alconbury

sharklet · 22/03/2006 16:22

scotchlass - which service is your DH in?

sharklet · 22/03/2006 16:25

There are hundreds of USAF wives out that way with Mildenhall and Lakenheath not far away either. We live as far off base as possible. I'm not very good at being pidgeon holed and thats what they seem to want to do with you. But then I'm English so I'm not struggling with living overseas wheras they are. I'm sure it will be different when I end up overseas, which will happen in a few years time.

nulnulcat · 22/03/2006 16:55

bf in army so only get to see him at weekends apart from when he is on exercise which is all the bloody time at the minute! hes of to afghanistan for 6 months soon as well

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 22/03/2006 16:57

nul - where is he based?!

All our lot are off to Afghan in the next 6 weeks... luckily DH is P7 so going NO WHERE!

nulnulcat · 22/03/2006 17:01

he is at larkhall in wilts at the moment he not going til towards the end of the year supposedly but with all these exercises he thinks something is going to happen sooner

saltire · 22/03/2006 17:01

sharklet , some of the USAF wives i met were very similar in their dress, attitude and overall appearance, i know what you mean about being pidgeonholed. However, they did tend to be a lot closer and friednlier with everyone, probably due to the fact they were so far away from their families. Some of the ones at Wyton didn't want to mix with us British wives at all, they spent all the time at Alconbury, however i got very friendly with a group who were great, i still keep in touch with one of them, who now lives at some airbase (i forget the name) in Washington DC.
I have to say though, from a personal point of view, i don't feel pressured into being a "typical" service wife. Some people are cut out for the lifestyle, others aren't. I know of some guys who have cut short their military careers becasue their girlfriend/wife didn't try to get on with her neighbours, or didn't want to ;eave their parents and friends, and i know others who have been married to someone in the forces for years and enjoy it.

nulnulcat · 22/03/2006 17:03

jandrmummy its a pain not knowing coz i want to get married and have more babies but we cant plan anything for now, hes out in 5 years but im not waiting that long!!

Blandmum · 22/03/2006 17:13

RAF, me.

Dh was in Wyton last posting, but he daily commuted. We are all in lincoln now.

We live 'off' but lots of firiends are service people....possibly because we are all in the same boat so often, dh's posted....need a sleep over of the kids etc that sort of thing

saltire · 22/03/2006 17:15

I hated Wyton, we were there for 3 years!

Blandmum · 22/03/2006 17:22

Dh has a desk tour there. He found it reasonably interesting. The kids and I are settled now, and don't intend to move again if we can possibly help it., I've done 9 moves in 18 years of marriage, and don't intend to move again Grin

Dh may get a tour in the MOD, and if he does he will weekly commute. Whgich will be a PITA, but I'm not moving the kids out of a school where they are settled and happy. And I love my job!

weewilliewinkie · 22/03/2006 18:17

Hello - me too! RAF wife. In Germany at the mo' and fed up with this place. DH is here (well, I say 'here', but as I write he's having a nice old drink in the mess...lucky him..)

This was our first posting and it took me a year to get settled. We've been here 2 1/2 years now. Probably moving soon, but the good old RAF haven't managed to let us know where to, or when...grrrAngry

Anyway, nice to know there's lots of other forces wives out there!

Laura032004 · 22/03/2006 18:42

I'm finding being a Navy wife quite easy at the moment, but DH has been at home for the last 18m which is nice. My dad is in the RAF (as was my FIL) so I've come from a Forces background.

To all those in the Lincoln area - my dad used to be based at Cranwell, and they now have a house in North Hykeham, which seems to be full of RAF families :)

sharklet - we were in Plymouth, but are now in Cornwall, even further away from civilisation! (love it really Wink)

Do any of your kids go to boarding school? I did, and so did my sisters, although we were all 12+ years before we went.

scotchlass · 22/03/2006 20:51

Hi Sharklet, DH is in the army. We are in Catterick at the moment is anyone near us?

scotchlass · 22/03/2006 21:02

Weewilliewinkie, sorry to hear you aren't really enjoying your posting in Germany. Where about are you? We were in Fallingbostel for 3 1/2 years and it took me ages to get used to it. I really missed it when we left though!! The grass is always greener isn't it? Hope you hear abouot your next destination soon.xx
