Hi I was just wondering if there are any other forces wives using MN.

OP posts:
Blandmum · 08/07/2006 12:19

The rank thing is insane, and I don't pay any attention to it, and never have. My best friends dh's ranks are at opposite ends od the rank structure, who gives a flying???

We now life 'off base' and can ignore all the crap. It is dh's job not mine

The rank thing can cut all ways. I had several friends who dropped me when they found out that my dh was an officer. WTF????

HI Medulla, my do is tonight. OMG that sounds awful for you tonight, quite glad I'm just going to a fancy dress, I'm no Delia that's got to be my worst nightmare!
We have to compare notes tommorrow on who had the worst night LOL!

Medulla · 08/07/2006 16:19

Ok it's a deal! Have a good time. What are you dressing up as by the way?

tiswas · 08/07/2006 16:42

Robin Hood and Maid Marian.....

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/07/2006 17:29

Hi all

Forces wife here, but not for long! Me and Munz know each other quite well from chatting on here.

We are in Colchester at the moment, and its crap! No sense of community what so ever, but I think that is because it is such a HUGE camp.

Looking like DH will be out in a few months tops so back to civvy street for us - daunting but exciting - at last i get to go back to work and DH can stay home lol!!!

Munz · 08/07/2006 18:42

tis - ooh maid marion! lol. have fun hon.

mad - hope your dinner goes well and it's not too competative.

ahy I know jarm! lol.

not much going on my end gettin ready to move - why oh why do they only give u a few weeks notice (ok ok we had about 8 weeks) but then the regt goes away for 3 weeks, then the sqn goes on adventure training then DH goes to rehab so in effect it's only 2 weeks with DH here and the rest is by my lonesome! lol. still least i'll get a differnt house for a while - more towels and mugs he he ( I have a mug fetish! lol)

vnmum · 08/07/2006 20:12

my DH is infantry. i also hate mess do's and i avoid them if possible. i used to like them but they usually turn into fight night. in our reg the lads get told that privates cant socialise with anyone from a higher rank and sgts cant socialise with lower ranks and officers cant socialise with lower ranks, and same goes for the wives, WTF!!!!!

saltire · 08/07/2006 21:19

Luckily for me my DH is neither officer or sgt (which i think stinks after 20 years in RAF, but thats another rant), so i don't need to worry about functions!

QueenMab · 08/07/2006 21:29

Munz - sorry to tell you the houses in Blandford are crap! We had a 1950's one complete with 1950s kitchen which had never been updated - still had a stone shelf in the larder! No shower etc. They are notorious... ALthough we left there a year ago and have had heard they have started updating some of the older ones.

Munz · 09/07/2006 08:45

QM - we're putting in for racedown - I hear they're the best ones to get?? roumer here has it they've done them out/willmbe doing them out by xmas, althou when I rang the DHE woman up I told her with a 5 month old baby I will not be moving into any house which doesn't have hot running water/a boiler and heating that works as apparently some of them don't work properly, and u have to give them ur utility bills for a refund of some costs, thing is I don't care about the money side of it but I refuse to go into a hosue withoutt he basics, (mainly for Joey me and DH can have blankets/make) anyhow she reconned we wouldn't be moved into a substandard one. so watch this space! lol. for a lovely house in the sigs come to brawdy - we've been soooo spoilt with this one as a first posting! lol. they're excellent, the kitchen's a bit dates (80's ish) but it serves the purpose.

anyhow how did all your function/dinner thingy's go last night?

tiswas · 09/07/2006 16:27

Hi everyone, Actually had a right laugh last night, it was really good. Everyone made a real effort, and because most people looked silly in fancy dress it sort of broke the ice and there was not so much judging going on. Feeling a bit crap today though!

Medulla · 09/07/2006 16:32

Hello all - yes ours was good fun too! Ended up having takeaway fish and chips for the main course as it was a beach themed night - broke the ice as there was clearly no heirs and graces from the start so able to relax.

QueenMab · 09/07/2006 20:17

Munz - yes, apparently Racedown and South Crescent are the older style houses that are being done! Gunville are Kingdown are newer houses but a bit like the Bronx

munz · 10/07/2006 09:25

lol, is that up by college road?/are they not the officer houses? - I only noticed those 3 i've mentioned as other ranks houses. if I had my way i'd pack this house brick by brick and move it (well put in a new boiler then move it! lol) what would u recommend then newer/older ones? althou the paper works' gone off now so we'll get what we get! lol.

what's it like in bath?

glad u two gals had a good time out without the airs and graces! lol.

QueenMab · 10/07/2006 21:00

All the ones you have mentioned so far are OR houses. Racedown, South Crescent, Valley road are all older style ones. Bigger gardens, semi-detached. Kingdown and Gunville are 70's terraces - I think slightly nicer inside but with tiny gardens and all laid out in squares off the road, if you see what I mean. Can't just park your car outside your house. Also, there are children EVERYWHERE - probably not the best thing to say on MN but tis true so there you go! I think you older ones that are being modernized are in racedown and South Crescent - if I had to go back I would go for one of those!

QueenMab · 10/07/2006 21:01

Bath is lovely, or would be if it weren't for the tourists! We are oin Colerne, just outside Bath. There is good shopping in Bath though! And only half an hour to Bristol which has big malls

munz · 11/07/2006 10:51

thanks QM - we're after the bigger garden for the dogs, tbh the children don't worry me. not fussed with semi/terraced, really all I want is a largeish garden. not fussed inside either - after all it's only brick and morter init, it's the home touches really.

anyhow boy's crying - agian why o why won't he nap???

pattilou · 15/08/2006 16:30

Can I lurk on here? For those of you who don't know me, I work with mothers as a life coach (lots of MNers are clients), and have just been approached to write for a magazine for military families on coping with life. Want to make it as informed as possible, hence the request to lurk. Oh, and if you have any useful stuff to share, CAT me or e-mail me on patricia at coachingformothers dot com. Please don't chase me off to media requests, just this once - I'm not looking for quotes or people to interview - just an insight into your world.

julietlundie · 11/10/2006 10:12

Hi there from a full-time working mum who is about to become a stay-at-home forces wife in the new year.
My name is Juliet, I'm 36 and married to Dave, 39. We have two children - Catherine aged nearly 5 and Daniel - 13 months.
DH has been posted to RAF Akrotiri as the new Customs attachment man and we should be there just before or after Christmas.
If you're already there or due to be by the New Year, please e-mail me at [email protected] as I'd love to hear from my new 'neighbours'.
Also any tips for adapting to the lifestyle of a forces wife would be most appreciated.

Thanks !

Juliet
