OK, for these kind of exercise del/delle/degli aren't articles, but aggettivi partitivi, it means you would translate them with some.

I won't give you the answer now if you are worried about cheating Grin but think about the gender of the name and choose accordingly, you wanna try?

vorrei ... spremuta senza ghiaccio
vorrei ... vitello al forno (yuck never)
vorrei ... torta di castagne (is that an actual cake?)
vorrei ... polpette di manzo
vorrei ... bruschetta con acciughe e aglio
vorrei ... carciofi al prezzemolo yum
vorrei ... spinaci all'agro
vorrei ... pomodori ripieni al forno (are there sea ceeatures hiding in there though?)

Francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2012 12:49

with "some"

Francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2012 12:49

OK, I will do the first one, then you try:

Vorrei DELLA spremuta d'arancia

Alameda · 09/10/2012 12:54

ok I think della or delle or alla or alle spremuta, dallo vitello?, ummm dall'apricots, della torte?, delle polpette, della bruschetta, dei carciofi? and dei spinaci and degli pomodori

are any of them right?

OP posts:
Alameda · 09/10/2012 12:56

Ooh I cross posted, yay was right first time!

thank you for helping, are any of the others ok?

OP posts:
Alameda · 09/10/2012 12:57

(thinking about all this food is making my tummy rumble)

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2012 13:12

vorrei DELLA spremuta senza ghiaccio
vorrei DEL vitello al forno (yuck never)
vorrei DELLA torta di castagne (is that an actual cake, yes, it is it's called Castagnaccio, I am ?)
vorrei DELLE polpette di manzo
vorrei DELLA bruschetta con acciughe e aglio (however, usually you'd say UNA, not della, imho)
vorrei DEI carciofi al prezzemolo yum
vorrei DEGLI spinaci all'agro
vorreiDEIpomodori ripieni al forno (are there sea ceeatures hiding in there though?)

It is a difficult exercise this one. Think about the usual articles ie:
I POmodori ... dei pomodori

gli spinaci degli spinaci

Oh my goodness, thank you so much. I will write them all down and see if I can make sense of why which thing takes which contracted form (?), but the table has 35 possibilities and they are not labelled m or f or even singular or plural but there is a row of il lo la l' i gli and le along the top. It's not the most helpful book actually, mia figlia ha a much better one. Might steal it.

Also have a few sentences am still stuck on, feel free to ignore if this is getting a bit annoying Blush

which restaurants do you prefer? quali ristorante preferisci (is that it?)
which dessert do you like most of all? quali dolci ti piace più di tutti?
and 'with whom do you go normally to the restaurant' I don't do anything normally, do you think they mean normally go - normalmente ?

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2012 13:32

I am actually beginning to appreciate how difficult it is to learn a new language!

I'd say:
Quale ristorante preferisci?
Quale dolce ti piace di più?
Grin at normally! Here i'd translate as di solito Con chi vai di solito al ristorante?

Annunziata · 09/10/2012 13:41

Wow that's hard

Alameda · 09/10/2012 13:51

grazie grazie grazie

is it hard? It is for me, it's very basic revision for everyone else in my group but I am (surprisingly) much better at listening and reading comprehension and even at saying things than most - which is good otherwise would lose heart

this week's verbi irregolari is sapere which luckily I do actually know so I can manage those questions (do they know where Gigi is, I don't know his name but I know he is rich etc) and then there is a little story to read and answer questions on which I like doing.

Argh have accidentally hit 'hide' instead of flip, will I ever find this thread again once I navigate away? :(

OP posts:
Annunziata · 09/10/2012 14:00

I think it's hard Hmm but I was never taught properly.

We could make a new one in somewhere it won't get lost?

Alameda · 09/10/2012 14:12

Is ok, I switched to desktop site and found 'manage hidden threads' there were loads I never knew I'd hidden!

but those partitivi articles, a lot sound the same to me Confused

I wish they didn't exist, there must be a way of making learning them fun!

OP posts:
Alameda · 09/10/2012 14:17

might have to reward myself with a bit of montalbano on iplayer

the homework story is boring, he's not even in it, just a couple of friends who have very boring lives, no salacious murders at all :(

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2012 14:18

It is hard.

But then you should now see me having a nervous breakdown as I am trying to knit a bloody scarf for dd, who said that knitting was relaxing? B* hell!

Aggettivi partitivi are a nightmare because they are = a preposizioni articolate. Ds has been studying them, and struggling.

Annunziata · 09/10/2012 14:32

In casa ca tu bisogni chiachiarra, DD1 lasciara con lei ragazzo, di cui mi lei amarazzaravu molto bruttamenti Grin

He liked (what do they say in Italian?, just like?) another ragazza's photo dal Facebook. Stronzo Hmm Ma idda partiri. Ah well.

Ma non sono aiuto con knitting.

Alameda · 10/10/2012 11:27

oh naughty boy

I've seen a 'piace' FB button on italian things, probably montalbano related, I clicked it anyway cos I do piace him molto or piace molto him, I just can't say I molto piace him or I get told off for putting words in the wrong order - suppose it is flexible as languages can reasonably be expected to be?

love knitting but you have reminded me that I didn't send my square for one of the MN blankets :( why am I so horrible? Perché io sono orribile?

OP posts:
Annunziata · 10/10/2012 14:44

I don't use it myself but supervise DD2s, and DD1 likes to show me her photos on it (some of them I wish she wouldn't!)

Alora, he deserved to be embarrassed!

Mi piaccerebbe to knit, forsi sia impari quannu sugnu pensionnatu.

Quanna oggi fina a quanna sicilia?

Alameda · 10/10/2012 18:53

non capisco as usual

the tender little italian receptors in my brain are not glowing very brightly at all tonight

OP posts:
Annunziata · 10/10/2012 19:03

Hard day?

'I'd like to be able to knit, maybe I'll learn when I'm retired. How many days until Sicily?'

Alameda · 10/10/2012 19:12

Oh I thought that's what you said, should trust myself a bit more Blush

I don't know how to spell it but only diciotto giorne

can't wait! need someone to come with though, daughter definitely wants to stay with the horses

OP posts:
Annunziata · 10/10/2012 19:23

Aaahh so soon! You're so lucky. It's still up near 30 I think.
