Haven't been for years now. But my SF used to live there, before my mum moved him in with us!! He used to be someone important in Clarks! I'd rather live there than Glastonbury!!

Would you go for outskirts of Bristol?

rarrie · 26/02/2006 20:36

How about Chippenham? Everyone I know who lives there really likes it... Its about 10 miles East of Bath (13 mins on train), has fantastic schooling (with outstanding ofsted reports) with some good private schools in Bath. The big downside is that there is not a lot of night life in the town itself, so you'd have to go into Bath or Bristol. But, given that it is on the train main line and tickets are only about £5 - its not difficult to manage. Its a market town so has its fair share of farmer's markets, clubs and societies etc, and some okay shops, but mostly local things.

We live in Swindon and plan to move out for a better lifestyle, and looked in the Wilts / Oxon / Gloucs region and decided when we move it'll be Chippenham as houses has aome of the best value for money (can get a modern 4 bed for 230k), with the best schools, and found the town to be really friendly and not too up itself, which is always the danger in nearby towns!

Know a few poeple who live in Winnie (Wincanton), they seem to like it.

Around Taunton there are a few places- Norton Fitzwarren, Kingston St Mary 9again, sorry), Ruishton, Henlade, Crech St Michael- that fit the 'large village with amenities' category, and that I would recommend as a place to,live. And anywhere on the Levels- Burrowbridge, Creech (again), as long as it is not too low lying.

Stogursey and Spaxton are nice (near Bridgwater but not too near), as is Puriton (good school) but don't touch Woolavington- some bad bits. Avoid Highbridge as if life depends on it!!

Mark is nice. Wedmore more so, but expensive.

Flossam · 26/02/2006 20:38

We've failed to mention Swindon!!

DumbledoresGirl · 26/02/2006 20:39

For good reason Flossam!

wheretogo · 26/02/2006 20:40

Wouldn't want to be too close to bristol tbh

I've been living in the N. Wiltshire/S. Glos borders area only for about 9 months but have heard bad things about Bradford-on-Avon. Lots of youths with nothing to do but cause trouble apparently! It seems to have a bad rep but I have no personal experience of it to back that up!

Beetroot · 26/02/2006 20:41

those are all villages though Peachyclir. Puriton is not nice imo. Next to the motorway ad a village with very little in it. Mark is a nice village but a village al lthe same

PeachyClair · 26/02/2006 20:41

Dh likes Severn beach, used to work near there and felt it was a good palce to live. Also swears that if he could move anywhere in the world, it would be a place near Weston called Star.

Swindon- um no.

PeachyClair · 26/02/2006 20:42

Puriton OK, but I used to live in pawlett so it seemed big to me!

NOT Pawlett though, BTW.

Beetroot · 26/02/2006 20:42

Star

DumbledoresGirl · 26/02/2006 20:42

Wheretogo, when you sya you don't want to be too close to Bristol, what sort of distance are you thinking of?

QueenMab · 26/02/2006 20:43

Yes, as Rarrie says - property dirt cheap in Chippenham! Not the most picturesque town though.

wheretogo · 26/02/2006 20:43

mI checked on kingson st mary but couldn't afford anything there... other places noted. thanks

any more votes for chippenham?

Beetroot · 26/02/2006 20:43

they are all to full of feilds and mud for me Peachy. Thank god for street lamps

PeachyClair · 26/02/2006 20:43

I like Star. Small village but I didn't say it met her criteria, just that DH liked it. I've already said I'm going to Ilminster when I graduate.
