Phew glad you added that last bit MissChief!

I quite like Frome, interesting shops there.

Warminster seems ok, though have only popped there when DD1 is at ballet. Jessicaandrebeccasmummy used too live there.

Westbury is nicer than I thought it would be, though there are hardly any shops at all.

We live in Forest of Dean and it is beautiful.
We are 22 miles from Glos town centre but have everything we need here so don't really need to go that often.
Schools are excellent (i'm a governor).
Surrounded by trees and wildlife which most kids never even hear of let alone see on a daily basis.
Highly recomended

Yeovil really isn't that bad! My parents live centrally there, I grew up there and had a good education and life really! I don't think the secondary schools are too bad although probably nothing on more rural areas.

There is no way on earth I would want to live in Glastonbury now. It has been ruined.

Wells, I would love to live in.

There are some lovely villages around Bristol. DP's parents live in a nice quiet one, called Saltford, the primary school there has excellent reports, and the secondarys in Keynsham don't fare too badly. I know some fancy flats were being built there at xmas which may be let out.

Basically, for more rural areas around Bristol, look around the outside of the ring road! Obviously! A large stretch of which is south Gloucestershire.

I don't know anything about Whiltshire towns, but the devizes are beautiful and I think Madge lives round there somewhere.

Enid, what is the name of the village next to you? Two word name I think? Do you know the Pearce family????

wheretogo · 26/02/2006 20:01

Thanks all for your info. Time to hit rightmove...

Went to look about those flats and found this! It was where Isombard Kingdom Brunel used to live wow !

Flossam · 26/02/2006 20:05

This is the place I was thinking of

Will check under rentals.

Flossam · 26/02/2006 20:06

Nothing there yet. A couple of places, one right on the main road though.

wheretogo · 26/02/2006 20:11

Hi Flossam, thanks for your help. 850k?!...
When I buy it will only be up to 180k which won't get me much in Saltford having just had a look on rightmove.
Do you mean Devizes town?

Flossam · 26/02/2006 20:22

Oh I didn't expect you to be buying that one!!! Just have been past it, it is an important building with a lot of history, was surprised to see it, and so linked to it. Sorry!

wheretogo · 26/02/2006 20:23

Need 2, pref 3 bedrooms. Realise can't be too fussy with type of house but prefer older really... whats up with shepton mallet and wellington??

OP posts:
Flossam · 26/02/2006 20:25

as in puke emoticon. Having said that driving from Yeovil to Bristol the other week I did notice a few nice looking new builds. But you don't really want to go there!

DumbledoresGirl · 26/02/2006 20:25

£180,000 would buy a three bedroom house in Thornbury. Just been looking at some on rightmove.

Flossam · 26/02/2006 20:25

sorry the nice builds were in Shepton Mallett.

wheretogo · 26/02/2006 20:25

I woud defianlty recomend going to a town rather than a village (siad form experience)

Frome is meant to be really nice now, arty.

Dont touch Septon Mallett.

Wells is great. Good schools.

Surfermum · 26/02/2006 20:26

It might be a bit far north for you but I really loved living in Cirencester.

Beetroot · 26/02/2006 20:27

shepton Mallett = shit and smellit

Does have a mulberry outlet shop , rather strangly!

Gem13 · 26/02/2006 20:28
PeachyClair · 26/02/2006 20:28

Shepton Mallet has had several industries collapse in the last few years, which has / is having an effect on the area in terms of famillies moving away etc. it's a shame.

Wellington- bit of an odd place really. fairly grotty, more known for the size of it's brothel than anything else (yes I am serious). I used to have a BF there and still go regularly with the carnivals, and it's just one of those places where your heart sinks. HOWEVER, the generala rea is nice- on the county border and all that- so I would happliy live in one of the villages around that way, just not in the town itself.

Oh another problem with Wellington is my P*head Uncle wanderinga round fat and naked coz he's forgotten to put his trousers on to go to the chippy. Again. .

wheretogo · 26/02/2006 20:28

ok getting confused now... is the puke emoticon to shepton mallet and wellington??

Any more info on what Thornbury is like?

I have 2 days this week to drive round all these areas... and no doubt drive myself insane in the process...
