Endearing things DCs say wrongly that you don't correct

As in when they are tiny and learning to speak obv, not revising for Oxbridge entrance exam...

Mine are 'Larf!' for the note that follows 'Sew' in the song Doe a Dear, 'turk-noise' for turquoise, oh and she likes to eat a nice 'cereal bath' every so often. She has recently adapted 'Grandad' to 'Dadgrandad' having noticed I address him as 'Dad'. My Speech Therapist sister used to encourage her very early habit of saying 'moo' when she saw a dog because she found it hilarious, but I drew the line there...

Bit of indulgence for the weekend and I am sick so could use the distraction!

In my house we like watching wiping queen (lightning mcqueen) and 64 loo zane (zoo lane). Must admit, took a while to work out when DS (3.9) came home from nursery saying he'd been playing wiping queen!

effingwotnots · 11/09/2011 23:33

When our lovely dog tried to lick dd's ice cream told her to shout "oi" at her.

The dog is now called oyatter.Confused

pinkspark · 11/09/2011 23:35

Oh, and having never seen Fireman Sam, but obviously heard about him at nursery, has now decided that all fire engines are called Stupider!

mamaduckbone · 11/09/2011 23:40

DS1 used to call the computer the cooterpooter which we all used for ages, and still do sometimes.
He also still can't say binoculars - he tries so hard (he's nearly 6!) but it always comes out as binoclickers.

mamaduckbone · 11/09/2011 23:43

...and ds2 has a baby piggy (his little toe) but also a daddy piggy (big toe!) Logical - ish I suppose.

cheekster · 11/09/2011 23:48

My DS who is just turned 3 says Shank you ... I really should correct him now he has turned 3 but he just sounds sooooo cute - I cant bring myself to. Blush

Valpollicella · 11/09/2011 23:49

Constructions instead of instructions (for toys or Lego or whatever)

Ambliance for ambulance

From 5 y DS Smile

lovecat · 12/09/2011 00:37

vermilla for vanilla

whobody when asking a question that should just have 'who' in it - ie 'whobody moved my shoes?'

She doesn't do it anymore now she's 6... :(

FuntyCase · 12/09/2011 00:48

DD - Cock-lick for chocolate. Unfunny in a busy sweet shop. Bugger for burger. millak for milk. Moo-rer for mirror - she's only JUST lost that one and she's 13yo!

DS1 - the only one was pavenant for pavement.

DS2 - Had quite bad S&L problems, so even at nearly 8yo still has some of the cute ones - ambleance for ambulance, squeal for squirrel, binoclears for binoculars. He's JUST got he hang of ridiculous - which used to be ridiclee-us. He also has pooter for computer.

I still call vinegar viggenar, as it was the one word I had problems with as a child!

swampster · 12/09/2011 13:29

Ooooh! Lovecat! Whobody and whichbody and the indignation with which they were said were my favourites with DS1. "Whobody have taken my train?" He's 7 now so those days are long gone.

MorallyBankrupt · 12/09/2011 13:38

Pineypapple instead of pineapple

Limey da Queen instead of Lightening McQueen

SamsGoldilocks · 12/09/2011 13:42

We have cuggles ( a hug and a cuddle), lello instead of yellow, and the story of Granite and Nettle (you know those children who got lost in the woods)

Thumbwitch · 12/09/2011 13:45

DS always says "another one " e.g. look mummy, there's a dog and there's another one dog"

Ligh'ingMcKeen
Owives instead of olives - the only real instance of him not using an 'l'
Mulk instead of milk

IceCreamCastles · 12/09/2011 14:03

I also love it when dd says 'yester-night' and 'yester-morning'.

Panzee · 12/09/2011 17:44

My nephew used to say "yesternight". I loved it too.

rumpleteaser · 12/09/2011 21:20

Am looking forward to my ds starting to talk more.
We currently have 'Head, Shoulders, Cheese on Toast' from DH whose first language isn't english bless him!

PontyMython · 13/09/2011 07:02

Aww, yesternight is lovely :)

DD hasn't really grasped the concept of the past, so everything is either "yesterday" or "a lot of yesterdays" :)

MrsFruitcake · 13/09/2011 07:10

My DS has trouble with his S sounds, so the other day, when I said we were going shopping, he replied that he didn't want to go 'Gopping'. I tried to get him to say it correctly, rolling my S out long and loud and encouraging him to do the same. It didn't work as it came out as 'Ssssssssshhhhhh...gopping'. I had to chuckle. He is only 3 after all!

flatbellyfella · 13/09/2011 10:06

Woyms for worms
Iyo for hello
Little one next door.

littlewish · 13/09/2011 10:12

My DS used to say causebe instead of because and cocporn instead of popcorn! Blush

Lemonylemon · 13/09/2011 10:27

Sawbellee = strawberry
nicnic = picnic
jamamas = pyjamas
kelala = koala
and this morning's latest one - chippen = pigeon.

Stokey38 · 13/09/2011 10:40

My DD calls the sunset the Somerset (that is where her Grandma lives0 it's so cute.

gleechie · 13/09/2011 10:43

My dd used to say Dyson for dice (though shes now 6, and still says this Hmm)
and Raidiators for Raindeer Grin

buttonmoon78 · 13/09/2011 11:41

DS (4) says thingers and fumbs. If he said both with an f I'd correct it but it's too cute that he just swaps them. Also Likeling McQueen. He used to say spiggit for biscuit too - I mourned that when he got it right Blush

DD1 used to say that deer had antelopes on their heads Grin

LaBag · 13/09/2011 11:46

My child says we're going on the "alligator" instead of the elevator. I used to say the same, so I think it's quite cute.
