Endearing things DCs say wrongly that you don't correct

As in when they are tiny and learning to speak obv, not revising for Oxbridge entrance exam...

Mine are 'Larf!' for the note that follows 'Sew' in the song Doe a Dear, 'turk-noise' for turquoise, oh and she likes to eat a nice 'cereal bath' every so often. She has recently adapted 'Grandad' to 'Dadgrandad' having noticed I address him as 'Dad'. My Speech Therapist sister used to encourage her very early habit of saying 'moo' when she saw a dog because she found it hilarious, but I drew the line there...

Bit of indulgence for the weekend and I am sick so could use the distraction!

Hopstital - love it but she's starting school next week so I really should put her right.

Cardington - but I think she knows that's just my her silly word.

DD is also convinced the lyrics to Mama Mia "marmite, oh how much I love you Grin

earlyriser · 10/09/2011 10:53

ds used to say 'sniglets' for cygnets. very cute, now i'm the only one who calls them this!

zandlt · 10/09/2011 10:53

DS1 (2.5) says yoyo for goodbye (and also 'here you are' - if he gives you something?!), not sure where it came from but doesn't seem to be stopping saying it anytime soon Smile

I've never managed to get 4 yo DD out of saying Battenburger (oh we love cake Smile)

Not so sure about qualifying as "endearing" though

Meglet · 10/09/2011 10:58

3yo DD says 'leepy-loot' instead of sleepsuit.

TBH I do correct her and she can say it properly but she ignores me.

BertieBotts · 10/09/2011 10:58

You're not supposed to correct them if they say things wrong anyway are you?

Anyway my favourites of DS' are "brefffffkust" for breakfast, "fenging" (hard g) for Henry (the train) - actually I brought this back by telling him that was how he used to say it Blush he does say Henry but finds it hilarious to make up imaginary train characters called Fenging as well! Also, DP's name ends in n and he adds a g sound to the end as well, like "Johng"

chrisrobin · 10/09/2011 11:01

DS1 sings 'q r s t u sneeze' in the alphabet song and when I tell DS2 to behave he says 'I am hayving'.

Psammead · 10/09/2011 11:02

Mimi instead of Mummy

Go-go instead of car (damn you, Tiny Rockers)

Booo for cat. No idea.

Raahh · 10/09/2011 11:04

When Ds was little, he used to say 'Farmer Christmas'- I loved that. I had visions of a man delivering pressies from the back of a tractor... Sadly he grew out of it and now says SantaGrin

MrsChemist · 10/09/2011 11:04

DS1 says "laptop pewter" and "bininarnar" (banana)

Raahh · 10/09/2011 11:05

Grin@lockets- how do you handle that one??

VeryLittleGravitas · 10/09/2011 11:06

DS2 washes his hands after doing a wee to get rid of 'Willyfingers'

We also have 'scribbles' instead of squirrels and 'flippers' for flip-flops

FreudianSlipper · 10/09/2011 11:08

Kung Poo Pander

or Kung Poo Pander Bear

Raahh · 10/09/2011 11:08

We call ALL squirrels 'Jim'- have done for years, and i have no idea why!

OliviaMumsnet · 10/09/2011 11:08

I was v sad when DS stopped saying underbrella
He also used to say Sitt-um-ing room.

bluebump · 10/09/2011 11:09

Radidair = radio
Piggle Piggle = Iggle Piggle
Cola cola = coca cola (not that he drinks it!)
Tick tocks = clocks
Nick nocks = indicators on the car (v random!)

There are loads more but of course I can't think of them right now.

Horopu · 10/09/2011 11:10

DS3 (age 5) loves Basagna and refuses to belive it might really be called lasagna.

DS1 and DS2 used to say whiff instead of if. We had to beat that one out of them when it got too annoying

DS1 used to miss 17 out when he counted to 20, he taught DS2 to count so he did the same thing.

DS2 aged 11 still says on purposely instead of on purpose or purposely.

Pippaandpolly · 10/09/2011 11:10

My brother was obsessed with soldiers when he was little, except he used to call them shoulders, which was hilarious when we went to watch the changing of the guard and he kept shouting and pointing out all the shoulders! Grin

SurpriseMuffins · 10/09/2011 11:10

ROTFL @ 'willyfingers'

Really hope DD doesn't ask why I am laughing Grin

Horopu · 10/09/2011 11:11

They also used to sound very French as they said le instead of the for years

Tiredbuthappy1970 · 10/09/2011 11:11

DS1 used to say 'Fat Controller' instead of remote control. We now call it the 'Fat Controller'. Also 'hot air bag' instead of hot water bottle.

hayleysd · 10/09/2011 11:12

My 6 year old ds says by purpose too and tijamas for pyjamas.

AndSheRose · 10/09/2011 11:15

Loving blarencunt and washing Germans off hands! Have been reminded of couple others by all above: her early 'frog' came out worryingly as 'fuc', and, even though she can now say full sentences and 5 syllable words, a request for 'a banana' still sounds like 'Obama'.

Bertie no not meant to correct them per se, but say it back correctly e.g. 'yes that's right, a banana' not, as is temptation, entrench it by saying 'Mummy's gonna get Obama'...

A, B, Cbeebies Blush.......R, Esther, T, U, V, W, X, Y Seb Grin

Blanas (Bananas)
Underbrella (umbrella)
Milk from the cows (Only realised aged 3 and a half that milk in the fridge comes from cows and now calls it this most of the time)
