5 years isn't enough b/c they never serve that length of time in the UK, anyhow.

Rape is a crime against the person. It's a robbery of the highest degree - when you take something a person can NEVER replace.

It's NOT about sex - it's about power, control, humiliation and violence.

But until it's seen that way, people will get off w/ridiculous sentences for it.

Why should a person get a lighter sentence just b/c they admitted guilt? I don't get that. Oh, I killed him so I'll get half the time. Is the victim only half dead, half raped, etc.?

Depends entirely too on the type of rape, although that sounds a bit precious, rape does differ, so then you have degrees of rape as they are intending (I thught) to have more degrees of murder and manslaughter
I think there should be a minimum sentence and I think 3 years should be the minimum for a convicted rapist - that's the date rapist type.
I know I sound glib but I've been raped twice and can easily compare one as being errifying and life altering and one as being a great fu*king inconvenience more than anything.

I agree, but then I've only worked in US criminal courts. Unfortunately, over there, it wasn't as black and white as the media made out. It was usually worse.

K. In many States, particularly Texas, it makes no difference for certain crimes. But then again, in some states, an accessory is charged the same as the suspected perpetrator him/herself. And some crimes do carry mandatory sentences.

Thing is, rape isn't about sex, it is about power. So by castrating a man, it's not going to necessarily stop him.

i didn't mean to give u the imression that u had to justify urself to me or anyone.

i know child abuse is comlicated, i have been there. no its not black and white. nothing is. my point is that rape should be p[unishable with a minimujm sentance so that the victim feels that there IS justice.
