How about a minimum sentence of 5 years with complimentary sack and crack wax?

Justice or revenge?

Unfortunately, there are some crimes for which no court on Earth can give justice to the victim(s). Only to hopefully protect the rest of society from a defendant proven guilty.

It's a tough one.

oh right thanks.

doesn't mean she is right tho...thread is called what do YOU think... not what does the legal system think or f'ing cod

Enid · 17/11/2005 13:49

well she thinks that its a crap idea, good enough?

expatinscotland · 17/11/2005 13:49

Have spent many hours in hard court bench as judge's clerk and judge's assistant.

I think it makes a difference, too, as to who is doing the sentencing. In some states, and for some crimes, a defendant is sentenced by the judge - or can elect to be so - or by a panel of judges - as in capital murder crimes in Colorado, for ex. - rather than by a jury.

stoning to death

but at the moment i am still in shock about my friends four year old.

being hung,d rawn and quartered? dont know what that is, but sounds painful

expatinscotland · 17/11/2005 13:51

True. Quite often, the judge or panel of judges give out a MUCH harder sentence. Some just get sick of seeing the same defendent back in their court . . . for the umpteenth time.

munz · 17/11/2005 13:51

the one thing that I don't like is the whole thing that peodphiles/rapists are let out and then no one close to their house know's who they r or what they've done - I realise it's the safest thing for them - but what about the safest thing for the public surrounding them?

child abusers - (I don't understand how anyone could do it to start with)

rapists - yes agree it's violating a woman (or man) in a way that can never be 'put right if u like'.

thing is thou - if someone murders and the sentance is only 15 years the family of the victim could think - is that all our X is worth? - she's not got her life.

the question is - do u get tough so they don't have the oppertunity to reoffend/be soft and leinant so they can? - I don't envy judges at all.

yep, sounds like the right punishment for raping a little girl.

munz · 17/11/2005 13:55

I thought it was as pruni said - will have to inform DH.

that's a bloody scarey thought cod. The victims family should feel justice is served in my mind - but at what point would it stop iycwim?

Don'tr know why I'm name changing for this, but anyway. I was raped. He did a load of other stuff as well. He got 8 years and will do four. He will be out next year.

Me? I wish they'd cut his dick off.

munz · 17/11/2005 13:59

dismbowelled - what's that then? - I thought they did the whole tides and 4 carts draged the body apart whilst alive and they went to the 4 corners of the UK? - althou might have been DH getting me going cos of guy falks.

must say thou (and prob gonna get pelted for this - I def do not agree with the whole half of the sentance life should mean life etc not 25 years and out in 15 or what ever for good behaviour)

Avalon · 17/11/2005 14:00

If you had mandatory sentencing for rape - wouldn't it deter even some would-be rapists?
Or is it just that everyone thinks they'll get away with it?
