How about a minimum sentence of 5 years with complimentary sack and crack wax?

Isnt it the soft option though Cod? What exactly is community service anyway? I see it as the soft punishment without really even knowing what it envolves

After two rapes I conclude this
the first was tried by honour law in NZ, someone who cared about me (ex gang member gone good... almost sorted the chap concerned out, he will always look at himself and know why he is the way he is. At the time police would have laughed me all the way out of the station
2nd time went to court (was a stalker situation with violence), and he was convicted
I can tell you which one gives me the most satisfaction, even now twenty yrs on.
Justice is subjective after all

Sexual assualt on children is a whole different ballgame IMHO
It's beyond a power/sex crime, it truly deserves the full weight of the law, thats not to demean rape in general, but YKWIM hopefully.
Jeus if anyone did that to my kids I'd be hard pressed not to want to totally ruin their lives if/when they got out.

Giddy1, how on earth did a man like that get a job around small, particularly vulnerable, children? Makes my blood run cold.

You should be damn proud of yourself for having the strength to see him prosecuted.

I think a guy who attacks some gorl in a park and rapes them should get much more of a sentance then some guy who meets a girl, who consents to going back to his house etc.... and then the girl says he raped her.

Im not for 1 moment saying the latter is right at all (OMG its not at all), but IMO the opinion for the evil guy who attacks some stranger and rapes them in the woods etc is by far a worse crime....

Caligula · 17/11/2005 23:14

Why is it worse NannyL?

Genuine question.

Tamba · 17/11/2005 23:14

NannyL

I know saying that that the latter is right at all but i think your post implys that it is in some way not as bad?

Rape is Rape, same humiliation, same pain, same crime. A rapist is still a rapist whether he does it in a wood or somewhere warm and cosy.

I think it was the '.....and then she says' that irritated me, sorry.

Tamba · 17/11/2005 23:15

sorry - this line didnt make any sense -

I know saying that that the latter is right at all but i think your post implys that it is in some way not as bad?

should say -

'I know you are saying that the latter isnt right'

Tamba · 17/11/2005 23:16

oooooh is it cause the girl in the 2nd scene, actually went back to his house... sorry silly me - that is, of course justification for rape right??

Tamba · 17/11/2005 23:17

Parps Self

I think what irritated you Tamba, is the inbuilt assumption of "and then the girl says he raped her" that they girl must be lying.

In my friend's case, Nanny L, she had accepted a lift from her rapist because she had known him and got on OK with him for a number of months and considered him a perfectly suitable person to accept a lift from. The thought of going to bed with him hadn't even crossed her mind, much less that he would drive her up to the moors and attack her. But in those days, people thought that a young girl who accepted a lift from a bloke was just "saying he raped her" for the hell of it, because young girls have nothing better to do with their time, than make unnecessary and false allegations against decent young men.

Sometimes girls go home with men they think are friends, without intending to go to bed with them. Should they never do that then?

Sorry, dodnt eman to offend anyone!

what i sort of meant was (not very good at describing) that some evul guy who jumps out and attacks an innocent girl is EVEN MORE BAD (sorry i know that poor english)

then a guy who meets a girl, goes home with her.... and communication is not eprfect and has sex with a girl who maybe doesnt vocalise enough that she doesnt want it and then decide she was raped sort of thing.

IMO there os not place on this earth for the first (capital punsihmenet here (also chop his willy off first), where there is DNA evidence etc, why the hell should we pay for him to be in 'nice' jail, sky TV, ensuite facilites etc etc?) where as the next guy may deserve (IMO) a long jail sentance.

Neitehr guy is right....

similar story to the farmer who shot the burglars on his property..... over people who just are murderers and murder others for no reason at all....

Neither are right, both wrong, but IMO the murderers who just murder innocent people who they have never met for no reason are worse

QueenVictoria · 17/11/2005 23:24

Mandatory sentences are pointless. Besides when rape is committed there are so many things to consider. Most rapes IMO arent pre meditated so i doubt the offender will have sat and thought through what happens "if" he gets caught. I suspect alot of "offenders" dont actually realise they are doing wrong anyway. But like i say, its down to circumstances. And each case should be look at individually.

Janh · 17/11/2005 23:25

NannyL, "a girl who maybe doesnt vocalise enough that she doesnt want it and then decide she was raped sort of thing."

Are you serious?

BTW NOT balming girl who doesnt vocalise enough.... OBVIOUSLY NEVER girls fault

Tamba · 17/11/2005 23:28

"then a guy who meets a girl, goes home with her.... and communication is not eprfect and has sex with a girl who maybe doesnt vocalise enough that she doesnt want it and then decide she was raped sort of thing. "

Hun, your digging yourself a hole!

bless you, i can see your not trying to offend, but really you are way off on this one!

I really find it shocking that you can see rape like that "she didnt vocalise enough" "then decides it was rape" WTF????

QueenVictoria · 17/11/2005 23:28

I suspect NannyL that what you are getting at is that one is pre-meditated, and one isnt.

I have to say that a pre-meditated attacker is more sinister (to me) and certainly will need psychological reports and more consideration.

Cod?
