You can also just use the ordinary John Lewis store card, not the credit card.
I've also done my Christmas Ocado shop - it's arriving on Christmas Eve!

CountessDracula · 31/10/2005 10:13

Hey Bettys how are you!

bettys · 31/10/2005 10:16

Fine - up to my ears in bat biscuits at the moment!

puff · 31/10/2005 10:16

Oh good bettys, I'm not the only freak then!

MrsDoolittle · 31/10/2005 10:31

Then hopefully you knowledgable ladies can help me.
At present we live sandwiched between a Tesco and and Asda and for 3 years now we have been to either one or the other, and yes, we have got used ot relatively inexpensive food.
However, my conscience is clawing at me and I am determined to live a more eithical lifestyle.
I would like

  1. To stop buying food at the Supermarket
  2. Buy fresh produce locally - meat/fruit/veg.
  3. our closest supermarket is Waitrose.

I have this idea that we can buy all our stuff through ocado, and not have to go to the supermarket atll for food.
Dh will insist on buying his clothes form Tescos.
However, dh reckins this method is going to be far too expensive.
What do you think? Will it cut out all the impulse buying one tends to do? this being my arguement to dh, who doesn't impulse buy!

MrsDoolittle · 31/10/2005 10:33

I should have said - we are moning in two weeks and our closest supermarket will be Waitrose

princesspeahead · 31/10/2005 10:34

Soupy I'm just back from waitrose and this has CHANGED my LIFE!
You don't need a partnership card, a straightforward JL card will do. Lovely bags, no unpacking, the excitement of being able to scan one's own barcodes, a scanner that says "Good Morning PrincessPeahead" when you pick it up.....

I'm in heaven. Thank you thank you!

waitrose is more expensive usually as they have a good buying policy and source plenty of stuff from UK farmers, paying them a decent wage and therefore you don't get the huge savings you get from Tesco but have the knowledge that you are truly supporting businesses rather than ripping them off terribly.

Trickorflum · 31/10/2005 10:43

If you have the money, its worth the money.

I consider I have the money about twice a month. The rest of the time I go to minging co-op. But always Waitrose if people over. bit snobby spose

MrsDoolittle · 31/10/2005 10:46

I know I like Waitrose myself, I was hoping that I might beable to make Ocado work for us.
Maybe I'll have to do it through Tesco as I still intend to get stuff delivered.
I'm going to try

handlemecarefully · 31/10/2005 10:51

Trickorflum, I do have the money, but I still don't think it's worth the money....I'll shop there of course, but objectively, I think it is overpriced.

handlemecarefully · 31/10/2005 10:53

I also shop at Morrisons because I am in touch with my roots and an inverted snob

CountessDracula · 31/10/2005 10:55

PPH I can't believe you didn't know that

SoupDragon · 31/10/2005 11:02

We have self scan but no chip and pin.

You'll never shop anywhere else now PPH! I have to say I felt incredibly common having to unload and pack my stuff at Tescos It had been at least 6 months since I'd been near it what with self scan at Waitrose and Tesco.com...

princesspeahead · 31/10/2005 11:13

i've always sort of noticed it cd but assumed, because of all the smart looking bags etc, that you had to be deeply organised person to actually do it.
I didn't know they practically set it all up for you!!!

SoupDragon · 31/10/2005 11:16

Did you get a free coolbag for spending over £50?

princesspeahead · 31/10/2005 11:18

oh yes!

SoupDragon · 31/10/2005 11:24
Grin
snafu · 31/10/2005 11:26

Soupy...

Enid · 31/10/2005 11:26

It isnt overpriced. Tescos is massively underpriced - and it sure as hell isnt the Tescos shareholders that are suffering for that.

Enid you have a point.

Perhaps I am morally obliged to shop at Waitrose.....

Enid · 31/10/2005 11:29

I hate Tescos

They totally rip off all their suppliers and are utterly unethical. I don't think its worth saving a few pounds to support their evil empire
