don't ever baulk or piss take Waitrose, you don't know how good it is til it's gone...........oh hell fire how I miss it, you have no idea how lucky you all are to have proper quality ingredients, ie, sour cream that does not contain halal gelatine.

Don't get me started on sausages

dried cherries and cranberries, organic dry smoked ham, goan fish curry, lemon curd ice-cream, maple smoked bacon, oh GOD!

I know I could go and drool over the Ocado website any day of the week but I am not a masochist.....it's been 15 months since my last Ocado order, and although it was an arm and a leg I still think of it

i love waitrose. i love the fact that the veggies last for the whole week and don't go mouldy before i have chance to cook them, that the meat is always good, no manky looking joints of beef here!

the variety that they have, never stuck for what to do for dinner. lack of processed kids crap, which makes my laziness hard to succomb to, because i cannot have a freezer full of turkey twizzlers, aerolplanes etc because they do not sell them!

the food side of it is good, i must admit though that i do get peed off paying an extra 15p for a box of washing powder etc, just so that my carrier bags say waitrose instead of asda. (which i'm sorry, but apart from some of their clothing i have an aversion to , because of the poor quality of the meat and vegetables in my local one)

i love waitrose because they don't rip their suppliers off but leave them a fair profit as well.

NannyL · 30/10/2005 19:46

i love waitrose...

there meat and meat products are treated ("more")fairly (the most 'ethical' supermarket apperently!)

if you buy a basket of kelloggs corn flakes , heinz hetchup , robinsons squash etc most items cost the same as tesco etc!

their food seems to be of much better quality and i think there organic range is far superior to any other supermarket!

in my opinion quality food honestly priced is accurate... you cant seem to biy "cheap crap" but do u really want to?

bran · 30/10/2005 19:55

My two local supermarkets are Asda and Waitrose and I will only buy food from Waitrose as Asda fruit and veg goes off before you've even made it through the checkout. Plus my Waitrose is very quiet during working hours (except lunchtime) so it's a pleasure to shop there whereas Asda always seems to be full of bad trolly drivers, yelling children and long queues at the checkout no matter what time of day it is. Asda does have some very good quality, cheap toys though, and their goats' milk is a good quality brand.

queenoffe · 30/10/2005 20:31

waitrose don't put farmers out of business, or the people who work on them under the min wage (unlike Tesco who've been refered to Action Aid for screwing South African grape pickers...) I think of Waitrose as a true reflection of what it really costs to make food fairly, don't go bonkers on the posh bickies and usually make it out without cold sweat at till!

I have a friend who used to shop in waitrose and now shops in asda because, she says, "it's wonderful being the youngest, prettiest and richest person there"!!!! (she is a 38yr old mother of 4 army wife, so that gives you some idea of the standard of clientele of the Swindon Asda)

princesspeahead · 30/10/2005 20:44

ps no one has ever bloody pushed my trolley to the car at waitrose, not even when I've been heavily pregnant grrrrr

SoupDragon · 30/10/2005 20:50

I love Waotrose because I can scan my own shopping and then just swipe my card in a "quick pay" machine to pay at the end. Oh the horror of going to Tescos and finding that I had to unload all my shopping at the till and load it all back up again I'd forgotten how tedious it all was.
