I've never done that soupy... do you need to register to do it first? I suppose you need to bring your own bags and things but god it has to be easier than loading and unloading etc etc....

hunkermunker · 30/10/2005 21:10

Think you need an account card, PPH - and they supply lovely bags which can live in the boot of your car

I love Waitrose. I love Ocado. But I can't afford to shop there as often as I'd like. Mind you, I have great plans to get all grocery items delivered from Asda or Tesco and the food that actually becomes part of me delivered from Waitrose. If I ever get my arse off MN long enough

JanH · 30/10/2005 21:11

pph, you should see Accrington Asda...

JanH · 30/10/2005 21:12

I love Waitrose too but my nearest one is about 30 miles away which takes the shine off somewhat unless I'm going that way anyway.

Waitrose really scares me, everythings perfectly lined up and its always stacked and stocked perfectly. Reminds me of One Hour Photo (was it...with Robin Williams)
Cant shop there because of that even if I could afford it!

puff · 30/10/2005 21:17

Their food is worth the money. Then I go to the pound shop to buy kitchen rolls etc .

Have I mentioned that I have done all my Christmas food shopping with Ocado already?

princesspeahead · 30/10/2005 21:18

I've got an account card... they give you bags? those nice green canvas ones I've seen people with? Do they charge you for them?

I'm going to waitrose tomorrow to check this out, might make the last 2.5 months of my pregnancy less hellish....

edam · 30/10/2005 21:24

People actually queue to get into my local Waitrose at Christmas.

MrsSpoon · 30/10/2005 21:25

They had pumpkins in Aldi today!

Yes they give you bags and a scanner and you scan as you go round then waltz out

I detest all supermarkets except waitrose

edam · 30/10/2005 21:33

Cod, you remind me of my BIL who feels quite faint at the idea of anyone buying meat from a supermarket - even Waitrose. He buys half a cow from a farmer and sticks it in the freezer (in bits, obviously, not a whole side of cow a la Damian Hirst). Lasts him six months, then he goes out and chooses another Daisy or Clarabel so he knows exactly where his food is coming from (and what it had for dinner).

Mind you, he's Italian and passionate about food.

princesspeahead · 30/10/2005 21:54

we have half a cow arriving for our freezer next week.

until recently it was living a nice life in a small herd of 8 at my BIL's chomping buttercups.
ahhhhhhh

JanH · 30/10/2005 21:55

murderer

suzywong · 30/10/2005 23:03

cod
don't know why the ingredients are funny here, but it certainly makes me miss the French I can tell you.
Imagine the fount of misery that welled up inside me when the gelatined sour cream I was forced to use in my white wine and mushroom sauce separated and split in the pan.
Oh the Horror.

What wouldn't I give for a Cox's and they don't do free range pork in this State.

SoupDragon · 31/10/2005 09:36

PPH, yes you need a JL Partnership credit card (we got one purely for the scan and shop. And, in my case) for the free bags they give you on your first visit. I love my bags - green woven plastic "canvas" bags with solid handles and lining to put your shopping in. Fantastic - I use these all the time for carrying all sorts of stuff! Whilst you need a JL card to use the scanners, you can pay with any card you like.

Absolutely well worth getting a card for!

SoupDragon · 31/10/2005 09:36

Oh, and it's the only thing that makes DS2 behave in Waitrose - I let him have the scanner and he scans. He also weighs the fruit and vegetables and prints the label.

CountessDracula · 31/10/2005 09:46

we always used to get whole lambs (baaaaaaaaaah) when we we little, I don't have the freezer space any more

Luckily we have fabbo local butcher but I do buy everyday meat in Waitrose

puff · 31/10/2005 09:49

At our local Waitrose, you don't need a JLP card to scan shop, it's a massive shop, so maybe that's why they are encouraging customers to use the system.

I do buy meat and fish at our butchers and fishmonger, but I like Waitrose meat and fish too.

SoupDragon · 31/10/2005 09:51

Must say I'm only assuming you need a JLP card because the signs at the scanners say "swipe your JLP card here". Since you need to register your JLP card before you can scan for the first time, maybe you can register any card.
