monkeytrousers · 21/10/2005 20:12

'Relax' or 'Choose Life' t.shirts. That last one had no right wing connotations at the time..ah, innocent times.

laundrylover · 21/10/2005 20:21

This is bringing back lots of long forgotten memories - I can smell that green hair gel!An image popped into my head of me on holiday in orange and black stripey leggings and matching rugby shirt! Must have looked like a large wasp with too much makeup on. My friend and I read Lace on that holiday and learnt lots!!

Kaz33 · 21/10/2005 20:33

Another didn't really "like" the eighties, hated all the clothes. Would have loved to be a teenager in the 90's all combats and trainers

Remember the ZX81, ZX82 - loading computer games from taperecorders and then you would knock the back of the computer and the whole thing would crash. Aaaargh
Stonehenge (before they stopped the festival),
Managed to miss ectasy and acid house much to my sadness , so close had friends who drove round the M25 looking for the rave.
Red Wedge, Billy Bragg

laundrylover · 21/10/2005 20:44

I am impressed with all your technical knowledge - I first went on a computer at uni in 1991! Never played Nintendo etc either. It's a wonder I can post this message!! I do get very annoyed when my nephews play computer games at parties and think that they should be putting on a play instead - what an old bid!!

spooklymieow · 21/10/2005 20:54

I still wear heather shimmer.
Does anyone remember 'red rover??' are they allowed to play it at school anymore???

mum2twins · 21/10/2005 21:24

Rats Tails
Kajagoogoo - Too shy!
Miss Selfridge Make up - especially Iron Lady??
Plum coloured wedge haircuts
Orange toner - was it 10'o'6 like applying meths
Going to the pub and drinking tomato juice with worcester sauce as we thought it was horrible and so would last all night.
The walton Hop on a Saturday night.

Taping the top 40 every Sunday tea time. with my mum saying twenTy nine, its twenTy nine, not tweNNy nine can't they speak properly... every week for the whole of the 80s..

Saturday night entertainment was: Dr Who, Generation Game, The Professionals and always being sent off to bed before Match of the Day.

Fame was on at the pictures (with friends mum who lied about our age - how cool was that)

Going to see Grease with my mum (how sad was that)
fluescent coloured towelling odd socks
Body warmers (only remember blue or red ones)
Stay press trousers
Leg warmers (pulled up even over trousers)
suade boots with turn ups?
pipe drained jeans with very thin white strips.
Learning (the hard way) to use Hair tongs. (had to cut out burnt bit)
shocking blue mascara

do miss those days - life was so much easier (probably cause I was a teenager living at home).

Buddhamummy · 21/10/2005 22:41

I loved the hair, big and bouffed! i happened to say in front of my niece the other day that i loved chrissy from east enders curly hair and my niece said that was "because you are and always will be an eighties type of woman" at first i was but then thought i'm bloody glad i was. Can you imagine half the pop stars back then being allowed any where near the charts today? it was come one come all whatever your shape, look, age! hurray!

Buddhamummy · 21/10/2005 22:44

oh and a great memory of seeing Rocky at the cinema and the whole place standing during the last fight scene all screaming and jumping up and down chanting ROCKY, ROCKY!

acnebride · 21/10/2005 23:02

aah, what a thread - like Proust throwing up in my lap...

my capitalism coat - my aunt stagged some shares in the TSB launch, gave me some money and I bought a black coat in dotty Ps with enormous shoulder pads and a sparkly purple lining - I loved it so much I slept with it

AIDS adverts with icebergs, watched by my family in stony silence
Country whatever hair gel - OMG yes! must have vertical hair at all times
permanently inflamed ears, but no other piercings
eyebrows like Brooke Shields
all trousers really narrow and a bit too short
all shirts enormous and preferably about knee length, revealing crinkled leggings riding up
turquoise everything - didn't get over this until 1991 but i was a slow developer
Miss Selfridge in autumn 1987 - was working for the first time so could afford a pair of black suede shoes with Louis heels that I wore and adored for four years
Aspiring to Richards Shops for clothes but feeling there was something not quite right about that
Radio Phoenix on Channel 4 - I've already tried this on mN, nobody else ever saw it
Quantum Leap
Stranglers and Rolling Stones and feeling that getting Howard Jones as a substitute was just crap

ahh thanks

anne french clensing milk - how you got your makeup off....! and cleaned your pores - ...it was the height of sophistication....

geranium · 22/10/2005 17:35

Tight pinstripe jeans - super cool. Poured myself into them everyday. Big big bows in your hair (preferably with polka dots). Pocket money didn't stretch to them so I used to wear my granddad's old bowties in my hair and thought I was really cool and original. Lovely, lovely music, taping the charts on Sundays, lots of bright orange and also turquoise tops, all with polka dots.

ScarySkribble · 23/10/2005 00:11

Ribbons instead of shoe laces in your DM shoes or hush puppies or is this later? I'm sure it was the 80's. Grolch bottle clips as well, think thet was to do with Bros .
