jbells how exciting! Good luck and hope it all goes really well!

bebejones · 14/05/2011 08:57

Nannyl - so shocked about the level of care they seem to offer you up there! Our MLU is fantastic, it will be a travesty (sp?) if they close it. (The food there is fab, but the main hospital is awful, and I mean I wouldn't give it to my cat kind of awful!!) They also allow dads to be there all day, not over night though, but the HCAs are fantastic & helped me so much at night. Totally get what you are saying about home birth & being low risk though. For me it was not just me being a wuss, I did want a waterbirth, but neither of my downstairs rooms are big enough to fit a pool in!! :o

Jbells - Good Luck, really hope it all goes ok! can't believe you are going to be meeting LO so soon!

I told DH about my foot last night...it did not go down well, wish I had kept my mouth shut!

bebejones · 14/05/2011 09:01

Forgot to say, a friend of DHs was desperate for a homebirth & MWs were so unsupportive & were practically forcing her to go to hospital. When the time came she made sure she 'held on' for so long at home that she ended up giving birth in her own bed with paramedics there!! Stubborn or what?!! Although not sure it was the most sensible thing to do & FWIW she was low risk, don't think she would have done it otherwise!

AmandaCooper · 14/05/2011 09:41

Crikey are you all ready for it?

Hello everyone.

Interesting morning here....
we were up early and went to the market and then drove 45mins to "NCT sale"... we were doing well and on time enough to be as early as i planned to be.... it was all going sooo well.... and then we parked... found the place.... went in..... and.... its next week Shock Blush LOL!
at least we have had a practice run and no the way for next week. Opps!

So we came home.... (via the tip)... OH went for a run and i have had a play with my birthing pool. Its fab.... im so happy with it..... the massive waterproof floor covering thing is exactly the right size for our front room, it took me

bebejones · 14/05/2011 15:43

That tis a long time to be by yourself. At our MLU Dad's can be there from 7am til 10pm (excluding meal times...DH would take DD off for a 'walk' so I could eat!) and that felt like ages on my own! Can totally see why being at home is better :) Just not even practical for me, and if I didn't have MS I would certainly look into it more for a 2nd one, would make childcare way easier!!

Sorry you had a 'wasted' trip to the NCT sale that wasn't!!

Been and spent an hour with the Optician. They did a retinal photograph which shows that it isn't MS affecting my eye. Phew!! BUT he said that lack of sleep &/or stress has triggered my squint to resurface. Bugger! So, new glasses with corrective prisms in to help my eye fix itself! Woohoo! Still got to wait a week for them though...booo!

WW I couldn't believe it either.... luckily for me id booked onto NCT 2 months ago... otherwise no idea what i'd have done!

To be fair, living here out in the sticks (according to my midwife at least, not sure how reliable it is but have nothing else to base things on) our home birth provision here is MUCH better than in many other areas of the country.... in our very small area, we have a rota of 5 NHS community midwives avaliable to us. (clearly they are on shifts, have days off, other duties, and need to sleep etc too, BUT I do at least have some hope that 1/5 (well 2/5 i suppose) should be available.... I have met 2 of them so far and both are lovely and would have every confidence in them if they came to deliver my baby.
Home birth also seems to be positively encouraged, and while they will not commit to it yet, (36 weeks ish) it is mentioned 1st and promoted as 1st choice unless we choose otherwise, or there are risk / problems.

My Dad (Grandmothers 2nd baby) was start to finish in 45mins (and his younger brother 15mins Shock) so its possible that living here it just may not be possible to get to hospital anyway..... and a PLANNED home birth is much safer than being born on the road. (saying that if 15mins not sure a midwife would make it either!!!!)

100years · 15/05/2011 09:36

Hiya folks :)

Squirrel, wow, over 31 weeks now, sounds like you are doing really well there :) Enjoy the pedicure. I like the idea of getting OH to pack bag, was it bebe's idea in the first place. I'm also counting down my shifts left to work, due to some annual leave adn the fact I'm on shifts anyway I've only got 31 shifts left to work or something daft like that, and I'm working till the end July!

Bebe, how is the foot doing now, glad the eyes don't appear to be MS related.

Whywait, cool pic, looks like 'he's' chilling out there with shades on!

Nannyl, glad all went well with your midwife re home birth, and it's good that it's mainly geared up to that where you are. :) Oops re the NCT sale, never mind, like you say, you will know exactly where to go next week. Glad the pool was easy to set up etc.

jbells, good luck for tomorrow. You get to meet your little man, amazing. :)

Well, I'm struggling with what I think is the start of SPD. :( Friday we went out to the race, which was fab, then went to a meal afterwards and as I was walking from the car to the restaurant I felt something twang in my back, kind of sciatica type pain which I have read can actually be PGP, and after that the ache at the front at the bottom of bump and in my pelvis was really bad. It's got no better really and has really bothered me, have had 2 poor nights sleep due to it and am very aware if I slightly move my leg to the side when walking, no sideways walking for me today! I'm hoping it will go after a bit of a rest. Away from home at the moment, back tonight, so am looking forward to being in my own bed again. My bump also feels massive, it's almost like I have been pumped up with a bicycle pump in my stomach!

The races were fab, we saw 6 races, I picked a placed or winning horse in 5 of those 6, and bet on 4 races, so won money on 3 out of the 4 bets :) Only put £4 on in the first race and came home with nearly £12, so I tripled my money.

Am now passed that magic 24 weeks stage :) It's amazing, and despite the pain/hormones that have hit I'm loving the being pregnant thing. Love feeling 'him' inside me moving around. OH talks to the bump now and strokes it more as well, and has felt more and more now, which is great. I can see where he kicks now, although I don't know if it's foot or hand, but I can see my bump move when he kicks, sometimes it's very localised in sight and sometimes more of a general that side of the bump moving.

Have sorted out my maternity leave. :) :) :) My Official maternity starts on 12th August when I am 37+1, but my last shift is the 29th July (due to annual leave) when I am 35+1 and I have managed to get my shifts for the last month cut down to 8 hour shifts as opposed to 10 hour shifts using my leave, so I at least won't be there as long while I am there. And as I said before I've only got something like 31 shifts left to work, which pleases me no end!

Quodlibet · 15/05/2011 21:02

Jbells, sending you lots of positive energy for tomorrow! How exciting.

100, sorry to hear you're worried about SPD. Glad your maternity leave is sorted and you can start counting down.

Bebe I'm really really glad to hear that your eye problem is 'only' tiredness. Agreeing with others that MrBebe needs to stop being selfish and pay attention. Otherwise we will form a delegation and arrive en mass (with Gruffalos) to tell him so. And you need to get angry if that's what it takes to get him to give you the attention to deserve.

Hello everyone else - Nannyl you are so organised with your birth pool dry run and your labelled hoses! I wish I had that organisational capacity but nup.

AmandaCooper · 15/05/2011 22:00

Woo hoo by chance I just won an epi no on eBay for £55! You can't get them reduced anywhere and that's the first one I've seen for sale on uk eBay. Just need to be updiffed now! Come on DH!

JBells all the best for tomorrow honey, can't wait to hear from you! Enjoy meeting your little baby WIIT! xxx

Good morning all
What an exciting day........ 1st baby of the thread BIRTHday.
Good Luck Jbells. Smile hope everything goes well and cant wait to here all about your new little person. Fingers crossed and thinking of you Smile

AC well done on your epi no. I have never herd of them, but had a google... what a bargain you got, they look fab, and anything to help not tear is worth a try IMO. Fab bargain Wink

100 sorry to hear about SPD. Sad Fab to have sorted ML and to be able to count down the shifts. & well done at the races. I LOVE going to the races, though normally im lucky if i get one winner (or place!!!!) (unless i dont put money on it of course, am much better of choosing winners when it makes no difference!)

bebe pleased to here your eye is not MS related... at least thats a bit +ve.

No major news here.... another week. I sold a lot of random stuff on ebay last night. (to be fair lots only sold for 99p, but i dont mind as its just stuff I have no need or use for, that with postage has boosted my paypal account, so I can buy more baby stuff for "free"-ish) so need to pack and post it.
I might try and make progress along my to do list i created when filing, last week, all very boring stuff, mostly phone calls, sorting out little, mostly unimportant things.

More luck and FC for JBells

jbells · 16/05/2011 08:41

I go into hosp at 11 but i dont think op will b till around 2ish im hungry already lol. Not sure wot music will prob just take my ipod in and c how i feel once im in theatre

AmandaCooper · 16/05/2011 08:49

I think it's a bit of a weird thing to buy so far in advance but (a) it was such a bargain and such a stroke of luck that I saw it with only 1.5 mins left to go; and (b) I don't know if I could spend that sort of money once i was actually pg on something that I might not even use/might not work.

100 I really hope it's not SPD, or that if it is it's just a mild version. This pg business is no walk in the park is it?

Off to tidy/scrub house as my mum is visiting for the day today! Eeeek!

WYorksLass · 16/05/2011 09:30

All the best to you for today jbells. I've got my fingers crossed.

Well, i think the nesting thingie has finally kicked in for me. Hooray! The nursery now has a basecoat and we've bought the paint for the final coat. I've spent most of the weekend tidying, sorting and baking which is most unlike me. I enjoyed it all too, weird! :)

Last night i think i had the best nights sleep since i got pregnant. I didn't wake up until 5.30 which is good for me. I also didn't wake up with back/hip/pelvis pain for the first time in ages.

9.5 working days to go Grin

jbells · 16/05/2011 09:45

Thanks bebe and wyorks

wyorks. Im not sure my nesting instinct eva kicked in i just did things that i knew had to be done like dds new big room and lots of sorting to clear space. Glad u had a better nites sleep i have bin lucky this pg and slept well never really had to get up more than once for a wee either :) well from tonite begins the dreaded sleep deprivation for me lol

oh forgot to tell everyone dd has slept in her new big room in a big bed for the past 2 nites she gave us no problems and hasnt got out of bed once we have put her down once yay :) so proud of her

ShaggingWithIntent · 16/05/2011 11:18

Good luck jbells!!!

squirrel007 · 16/05/2011 12:06

Will catch up properly later, but I just wanted to pop by and say good luck jbells! hope it all goes well :)

100years · 16/05/2011 12:50

I've ordered some wool, as I'm going to crochet a blanket for LO :) Yay, can't wait for it to arrive, I'm saying sod the wait till 3rd trimester to start, I'm 25 weeks on thursday, that's close enough for me to the third tri and I reckon it will take me ages to do anyway! Looking forward to having something I've made for baby.

My pelvic pain is easier today :) It's not gone, but it's easier and I slept loads better last night, had a new pillow delivered it's a bolster pillow, so almost 5ft long and wedged it between my knees, only woke to wee, not through discomfort so the first night is a success. :)

Thanks Quod :)

AC, cool work on the Ebay find :)

jbells, fingers firmly crossed. :)

nannyl, do you have a houseful of stuff then, seems as though you are always selling! :)

Wow Wyorks, lucky thing with the few shifts to go :)

MrsSatsuma · 16/05/2011 18:37
