Oh Quod I forgot to comment about your DP thinking that the only thing standing between you guys and ttc is his work! Sounds like positive new!

OP posts:
Quodlibet · 27/04/2011 14:55

Yeah I totally see your point AC, just wish the world didn't work that way.

Where are all the other ladies today? Are they all on nice holidays? (I am increasingly grumpy about the fact that being self-employed means bank holidays mean jack shit if you haven't met your own deadlines...trying to work out if I feel I've achieved enough this week to let myself skive off on Friday to go to a friend's Wedding Breakfast ie drink champers and shout at the telly...)

MrsSatsuma · 27/04/2011 17:10

I know exactly what you mean AC I've been having that argument with myself for ages! Would love to search for another job, but in order to get maximum maternity leave benefits I'd have to be another job for a year before the EWC - meaning I'd have to hold off ttc as there are rules about when you can hand notice in as a teacher and I now wouldn't be able to leave until Christmas. Plus I'd have all the stress of the 'new teacher testing' from the kids (which they all do for at least the first year of a new school), new schemes of work, etc etc... I'm not going to say which subject I teach because I'm paranoid about identifying myself :)

Quod, it's lovely that your DP seems to be on board apart from the work thing. What on earth is this project?!

AmandaCooper · 27/04/2011 17:23

All the more reason why ttc should fit in with us and not our partners, whose careers will go on uninterrupted and who aren't time limited in terms of when they could potentially change jobs. DH wants me to have my own firm one day, the longer we leave kids off the agenda the more distant a prospect that becomes.

Everyone you talk to tells you there's no right time to have children. Well IMO there is and the time is now.

Thanks Whywait, it doesn't make a great deal of difference - but it's not really that that would put me off, it's the whole politics of changing jobs whilst pg.

Aw your scan will be magical, those moments must be wonderful.

Deep down I know its time to resign myself to the fact I'm not getting another job just now and I might as well get on with ttc and with luck a year from now I could be back in the game. A lot could happen in a year, it might be that I find another job to go back to after maternity leave, or maybe something else will present itself, or maybe I'll feel differently if I go back part time and it's no longer the be all and end all of my existence.

But every month between now and starting on that path that DH has me wait is basically another month wasted and another month I'll spend moping about my stagnant career and toying with the idea of one more job application.

Sorry about the massive winge!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 28/04/2011 06:40

Oh and really worried Mother Nature might make me wait just as long again. Another two years on the mumsnet conception boards waiting to conveive is more than I can bear - no offense ladies!

OP posts:
jbells · 28/04/2011 07:55

Any sign of af yet AC?

Hi whywait long time no.speak bet u cant wait for your scan :)

One of the ladies i know who was due 3 days after me went into labour last nite. Im.scared now as i have nothing organised uhoh

AmandaCooper · 28/04/2011 18:06

Oh no she won't be here for another week, how could I have doubted TCOYF, what a heretic!

Quiiiiick!!! Pack your hospital bag NOW! Have you got a list of things to take?

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 28/04/2011 18:19

The bonus is, as long as everything is normal from now on, I should be able to ttc a bit earlier, at the end of June instead of the beginning of July. It may not sound like it matters but psychologically it feels significantly closer. All subject to DH being on board of course.

So anyway enough waiting to try to conceive chit chat, where's everyone planning on watching the wedding?

OP posts:
jbells · 28/04/2011 20:08

Doubt i will even watch it dnt know wot time its on lol

nope no list no breat pads no maternity pads only 2 bottles no car seat hmm i will try to get sorted by monday :)

SWI bet you must be really excited to be in India! Hope your DH feels better soon :)

quod sounds like the negotiations are going well - think it's a big jump though from "after X and Y are sorted" to "whenever I feel ready"! The former is much easier to rationalise!

MrsS sorry to hear you're still feeling anxious about work :( That can't be a nice feeling.

whywait exciting news about the upcoming scan :)

jbells eeek, scary times! What do you need to get organised?

Amanda I also didn't want to switch jobs and immediately get pg, but I can completely see how you feel on hold right now.

One of the big deciding factors in starting ttc for me was that I wanted to leave my job and do something else, but didn't want to go straight for a new job and then get pg. As it turns out, it was quite good timing for me, as things are now falling apart at work (budget squeezes, teams merging, hiring freezes etc) and I'm just about to leave it all for a year. It wasn't the best of times for DH, but then we discussed it and thought it was best to have kids at a time that suited my career rather than his. Luckily for me, he has always wanted kids so I didn't need to work hard to persuade him. But I do think that if the woman is the one who has to be pg for 9 months and have the baby, with all the associated career hassle, then a far bigger factor is whether the timing fits with her career rather than with his (up to a point though, as there are some very sensible reasons to postpone).

Not sure why but I'm feeling very grumpy today! Fingers crossed I cheer up tomorrow :)

Quodlibet · 28/04/2011 21:15

Hi Ladies, am in hormonal hell the past 2 days, grrr. The last 2 days have seen a change from the relaxed everything is OK attitude to a worry wart attitude! Hey ho, I expect it's all going to be like this, off and on worries.

Good luck for Strawberry, I bet she is having her last minute preps going on.

Can't decide if I'm slightly hungover (way too much champers & Pimms) or if I have DHs cold?! Hmm

It was fab wasn't it AC?! I loved every minute of it! [csmile]

squirrel007 · 30/04/2011 11:36

Oh yes, fingers crossed for strawberry's wedding! Grin It is lovely weather, so hope it all goes well.

I watched the wedding yesterday at some friends of the in-laws, really loved the spectacle and it looked amazing. Plus, they both looked very happy after the event (once they seemed to have relaxed). But, I have to say, the ceremony itself was a bit dreary. But it made DH and I think back about how great our wedding day last year was!

AmandaCooper · 30/04/2011 12:09

I loved it I was riveted every minute. Shame I had MIL blithering on in my ear about the kitten throughout the service and continually jumping up to play with him, blocking my view of the telly!
