Quick one here, just to say welcome Sarah - your move sound like the usual stress of moving with a huge extra-scoop of MIL flavoured stress on top. i wish you lots of luck!

as you may have gathered i have waffled on too much here recently so will keep it short-and-sweet...we are in the North and new to Italy so will have zero constructive advice for your situation currently but hope to hear all about it!

banana - are you going to/from Manc? that's my home town...oh, i'd kill for a chip-naan right now! have fun!

ok, off for a quick peak at Zara Home now!

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2011 12:34

Ciao ragazze,
I am feeling all refreshed after 1 hr and a half of hata yoga, which I really recommend.

Bucharest: Scammy peed in your toilet??? Grin.... Did he flush? I want gossips. I know your dp is extremely polite and correct and doesn't spill... still.... ha! Scamy... (he is getting old though, no?)

Gio have a lovely time in Manchester and send some M&S carrot cake vibes over here Grin

Sarah, I can't remember which thread either, but I do recognize your name.
The situation with your Mil sound really bad, is she mentally ill? How daunting this must be for you. And depressing.

I will support your decision to move to Lecce (I know people who live there, and it is such a gorgeous area. Gallipoli has fantastic beaches, though it gets very busy in the summer), in fact, I'd love to live in Southern Italy.

Will go and read the papers and see what else B. has come up with. What's depressing (for me as a leftie) is that the opposition is not really taking advantage of the situation. Uffa.

Rosa · 25/01/2011 12:50

Ok you are all fired - Zara home and online is NOT a good idea right now for me I am likely to do serious damage !!!!!Grin
Gio have a great time and please eat lots of very birtish stuff for me.
Hi Sarah - MIL sounds hard work and good luck with the hunt / move and also the 43 ...Thats me in a short while (eeeekkkkk)
Today its cold cold and cloudy so not as nices as yesterday. DId english this am and we have 2 huge posters with very brightly cououred ships/ cars/ buses / helicopters stuck on them !! They had fun anyway.
Buch sounds like your next few weeks are filled up with work !
Febbre and tosse going round here in fact I have a bit of a sore throat but I am sure its the cold more than anything else ( watch this space!)

sarahitaly · 25/01/2011 13:22

" is she mentally ill"

Yeah, bipolar 1 (paranoid psychosis and florid hallucinations when manic. Catatonic and refusing food\water when depressed UNLESS she just goes hyper religious, paranoia and depressed), OCD, hypersexuality, probably also has a personality disorder, but hard to diagnose with all the other stuff going on.

Now with added dementia, Parkinsons, diabetes (plus resultant amputations) congestive heart failure, circulation issues as well as all the other problematic lower grade stuff you get with geriatrics.

At least she is in a wheelchair now so I don't spend half my life running around the country trying to find where she has buggered off to anymore.

She'll outlive me.

Probably on purpose. Grin

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2011 13:38

Shock. Bloody hell Sarah, it must be a nightmare. Has she always been like that? Sad

Rosa, I feel like I am coming down with a cold too. Uffa.

sarahitaly · 25/01/2011 13:46

She has always been ill, but the worst bit was the first few years Mario and I were together, before anybody faced up to the need to get a diagnosis, cos her family just plodded on pretending it was normal behavior.

And expecting me just to put up with it too for the sake of "not upsetting" her.

Which was beyond me.

I actually find it easier now (even though she is far less stable as the years go by) cos at least it makes sense, she is ill, and I do have some element of control over how to manage her, with no more irrational stuff about just acting like it is normal for your MIL to call you a pompinara at the dinner table.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2011 13:53

Yes, I totally understand. Gosh calling DIL a pompinara at the table is too much even for a MN MIl thread Grin.
Seriously though, it must have been horrendous for you, I am sorry.

sarahitaly · 25/01/2011 14:08

It's ok more or less, most days, when compared to the big picture , I have a lovely husband and a fantastic son. I enjoy my life here and ..well you are going to get rain in your life one way or another so why not a "crazy" MIL? LOL

At least nobody bangs on about the usual "try to understand and be nice to your MIL despite her being an uberbitch" stuff once they've met her Grin

I often threaten offer to lend her to the know alls so they can show me how to be a "better" DIL. Dear god do they back off fast when she comes trundling into hearing range.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2011 14:16

Yes, I agree.
So, are you in PV, in the city or the countryside?

sarahitaly · 25/01/2011 14:31

Right out in the sticks. 4 km from town, next door to a LIPU site that is "An Oasis of Natural Beauty with interesting flora\fauna" according to the EU.

Did you catch the kerfuffle on Studio Aperto about the holy healing miracle water of Garlasco ? Well I'm the unfortunate bugger on the track, just after the Oasis, in the middle of the rice fields right before the site where all the pilgrims flock.

They are the main reason why moving came on the cards. i just want to murder them, which is not really the sort of feeling I had in mind when I left Milan for the lovely peaceful countryside.

I'm looking for somewhere pilgrim free when we move, I can cope with MIL coming too, but a girl has her limits ( =

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2011 14:35

Oh I think I've heard of that Lipu place. I didn't hear of the healing miracle water of Garlasco though Grin (ah, the joys of not having a tv!).

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2011 19:52

Oh my goodness, dh has just bought an imac!!!! Shock It is bloody beautiful!

Sputnik · 26/01/2011 12:40

Buch I am dying to know where other than your toilet Scammy peed :o
I have fond memories of Gallipoli as we took a holiday near there the summer before having DD. It was the last time I looked decent in a bikini. Sarah good luck with the move and I admire your fortitude with your MIL. I bet you are tempted to go on all the MIL threads and trump everyone.
I am feeling really crap after 2 nights of really bad sleep, the house is a mess and we are having guests over tonight, somebody motivate me.

Rosa · 26/01/2011 12:52

Presume you are not talking about hair removing cream Franca ???? Oh no thats Immac !!!!!
AM having a manic day......BUt managed to get a few things done! now must go and do more packing before minirosa wakes up !

Rosa · 26/01/2011 12:53

Oh sarah send me some of that holy water please I could use it on dh right now !!!

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2011 12:58

Lol rosa Grin, no, not the hair removal cream (though God knows I need it, I have been sporting very thick moustaches for a few weeks now... Hmm)

Yo Sputnik, why didn't you sleep well? Was it the children waking up or are you not feeling well? I have to say that I have been waking up at least 30 mins before the sveglia rings and I am not pleased about it!

Sputnik · 26/01/2011 13:14

Yes DS's fault both times, he sometimes wakes up early then comes into our bed, first night he went back to sleep but I didn't as I was too hot and couldn't pull the covers off, last night he showed up around 4 climbed over DH waking him up then didn't go back to sleep for a couple of hours, I couldn't as he was moving about all the time, literally every few seconds. I have tried taking him back to his bed but he just comes back. Luckily he doesn't do it all the time.

Sputnik · 26/01/2011 13:19

Hallelujah! Our dinner guests have been cancelled.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2011 13:37

Ouch, I feel your pain Sputnik! I hope it goes better tonight.

eurocommuter · 26/01/2011 15:25

Hi all. Hope you are well. I'm fine. Welcome Sarah! Im a brit in abruzzo with a ds soon to be 7 and dd 4.
Buch good to see u again. Ds is doing better but we are planning to send him to different schook in sept.hows dd? Sounds like you have ur plate ful but i think that is good.

Does anyone know where i can get the Italian version of best friend's guide to pregnancy by vicki lovie? Dont judge me Blush. Anyway or a similar type book that is not so sensitive or too medical but more down to earth.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2011 16:42

Ciao Euro, glad to hear ds is doing better.

No idea re the book. Big bookshops (like Feltrinelli) have large pregnancy sections, so I am sure you will find something suitable. Or you can try on amazon.it.

mrsmillsfanclub · 26/01/2011 16:42

Hi All.

Its fantastic to discover this board. Been on mn for ages, but never knew about you lot.
I live in London with Italian dh and teenage daughter. I've had several miscarriages in the last few years, but not giving up hope yet.
I lived in Italy for several years, loved the place but sometimes found inlaws were too much, too close and never understood the idea of 'honesty' as an excuse for blatant rudeness. One of the reasons we now live back in blighty.
Hope I can join your ranks.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2011 16:47

Hello Mrsmills, welcome Smile
I am Italian, married to an Italian, but we lived in the UK for a long time.

Rosa · 26/01/2011 16:55

Franca dh stroked his mac lovingly the first few weeks he got it. But its only the minimac but he was so happy with it. His enthusiasm has now moved onto something else I think !
Cleaning lady back - hurrah my house smells of lysoform and she is removing 2 binbags full of clothes tonight and the rest in the next few days. However am not sure what I am going to do with the plastic copriletto she gave us for our wedding ...Its matrimoniale, red with hearts on it that nylon shiny stuff if anybody is interested???? Oh with 2 matching cushions as well......
Off to entertain the dds and then its dinner and more sodding boxes going to have to start taking them down the 40 stairs soon ..Well at least its down !

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2011 17:02

Ah Mrsmills I forgot, sorry to hear about the miscarriages, how dreadful. But I am glad to hear you haven't given up Smile

Rosa, the guy is Piero Angela, I had his book about pg too!

We had a minimac too and it is lovely, but it was quite old and impossible to run many new apps, so dh went and got this one!
