Why did you choose your mumsnet name?

This has been preoccupying me (I don't get out much!). Why did you choose your mumsnet nickname, and did it take you any time to decide on it?

I have to admit I pondered briefly about mine, but decided this one would convey a witty self-deprecation about me, motherhood, ability to communicate etc (har har har, pretentious or wot). So I just wondered...

crossma · 29/07/2003 10:43

think mine is quite obvious but keep thinking I should change it. However, I wasn't cross was very upset and not with anyone close just school head/teachers! Hence cross ma. Interesting to see what comes up like yours motherinferior, it would suit me.

sprout · 29/07/2003 10:56

Motherinferior, I think there's an old thread on this, called something like "how did you decide your nickname?", but I haven't got time now to work out how to do a link. Should be working

Tinker · 29/07/2003 10:57

Always liked yours motherinferior, being an ex-catholic girl. I'll say no more except that mine is an anagram.

WideWebWitch · 29/07/2003 11:09

I like your name motherinferior. There was a Letterland (Letterland is a method for teaching children to read) talking bus on the floor next to me when I had to choose so I chose the Letterland character for W, which is wickedwaterwitch. Not the first time in my life I've been called a witch, it has to be said

eefs · 29/07/2003 11:14

mine sounds vaguely like my real name, it's the way my niece used to pronounce it. Not very original and I think i'd like to change to something a little less like my name as I'm always recommending this site to friends and would hate my anominity to be lost as some posts are quite personal.
I love SueDonim's name and other clever play-on-wrods type names.

butterflymum · 29/07/2003 11:18

I have a little blue butterfly logo against my name on my computer and around the time I was joining mumsnet, I was framing a print for our bedroom which, by sheer coincidence, also had butterflies on it. So, I guess butterfly must have stuck in my mind and as for mum....well, with 3 youngsters, I seem to hear that word all the time (lol)!

butterfly

oliveoil · 29/07/2003 11:19

I used to be a string bean like my namesake and was teased at school as a result, upset at the time but would now love to have the legs I had then, more like Bluto now (was that his name? Popeyes rival? can't remember)

badjelly · 29/07/2003 11:23

I'm always getting called a witch by my mates and dh went through a phase of calling me badjelly the witch (after an ITV kids programme). When I saw WWW's name it reminded me of this and the rest is history!

Frenchgirl · 29/07/2003 11:40

i'm french and i'm girl. A lot of thinking went into this as you can see... how i regret it now!

Harrysmum · 29/07/2003 11:43

Because I am...

sis · 29/07/2003 12:00

It is an anagram and also ecause I'm close to my sisters and I thought that it was good for a 'sisterhood' of mothers website.

whymummy · 29/07/2003 12:04

my little darlings favourite two words

kayleigh · 29/07/2003 12:06

I originally had a nickname that was quite obvious if you knew me but then, like eefs, friends of mine started looking at the site. I changed it to this as it's one of my favourite songs (Marillion) and it was one of my possible names if i'd had a dd. I ended up with 2 ds's so thought i might as well use it myself !

Claireandrich · 29/07/2003 12:15

'cos I can never remember my nicknames in the past, so now I just use the first part of my e-mail address. Boring I know!

lilibet · 29/07/2003 12:17

My Dad's nickname for DD, really wish that I had something original and witty. I love soem of the names, but don't want to change as I would just have to keep reintroducing myself

SoupDragon · 29/07/2003 12:18

Because I'm all green and knobbly!

magnum · 29/07/2003 12:27

Magnum is a nickname given to me by my sis and her dh after a holiday with them abroad. When I tan, the hair on my upper lip goes a lovely shade of blonde giving me a rather fetching moustache (not sure if I spelt that right!!) which resembles that of the famous private investigator, Magnum PI!! Needless to say I don't think my sis uses this site or she'd recognise me immediately!!!

womba1 · 29/07/2003 12:45

within hours of meeting my husband he called me womba, which is the name of a medieval jester or fool. i am a bit of a joker and make people laugh...not always intentionally, i might add! he never calls me by my real name and you should see the looks we get in public!

oliveoil · 29/07/2003 12:49

Magnum - you make me think of icecream mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

sprout · 29/07/2003 13:19

I live in Brussels - and couldn't think of anything more inspired the day I first wanted to post!

breeze · 29/07/2003 13:21

I thought long and hard about it, all for at least 2minutes then it came to me while I was clearing out the empties from the bacardi breezer I had the night before.

codswallop · 29/07/2003 13:22

I was edgarcat for obvious reasons...we then chose codswallop - cant ermember how

bluecow · 29/07/2003 13:29

Mine's the cartoon cow from The Storymakers on Cbeebies. The line at the beginning of the cartoon is always 'blue cow wonders, wonders about the big world beyond her field ' - which I do a bit.
Am so slow I didn't even get SueDonim until eefs mentioned it...

marypoppins · 29/07/2003 14:00

Like Mary Poppins I work with children but don't have any of my own - yet! My very own Dick Van Dyke (oh god, he'll kill me if he reads this)is taking his time coming round to the idea!

Furball · 29/07/2003 14:08

Mine was a word that just popped into my head at the time and made me chuckle. I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BODY HAIR!!!!!!!
