Why did you choose your mumsnet name?

This has been preoccupying me (I don't get out much!). Why did you choose your mumsnet nickname, and did it take you any time to decide on it?

I have to admit I pondered briefly about mine, but decided this one would convey a witty self-deprecation about me, motherhood, ability to communicate etc (har har har, pretentious or wot). So I just wondered...

I'm a stepmum, but am not all that wicked really.

But 'reallyquitenicestepmum' just doesn't have the same ring to it !

Utka · 29/07/2003 14:20

Mine's the Russian for duck (pronounced ootka.

I've always loved all things Russian, and when I was first learning the language, at university, it was one of my favourite words. My daughter is really into feeding the ducks at the moment and has various plastic ones that get played with all the time, so that's why I chose mine. Plus I wanted one I'd remember (I am forever forgetting my bank security ones!)

So pleased to see this thread, as I've was wondering about some of these (including WWW's) for the last few days, whilst posting. Am intrigued about some of the others I've seen. Hopefully they'll come forward with explanations. Must say something about our psychology!

boyandgirl · 29/07/2003 14:26

Because I've got one of each!

Dahlia · 29/07/2003 14:32

Because I love gardening and dahlias are one of my favourite flowers that I grow - I call them my babies.

pie · 29/07/2003 14:54

I like pie, I really like pie.

Its been my online name for almost 4 years now...

naughtynoonoo · 29/07/2003 15:30

Cos I am always cleaning up - like Naughtynoonoo - or is it because I am naughty - noo nooo!

chiggles · 29/07/2003 15:33

Couldn't think of another. ds's chiggles was giggling at the time cause the birds kept talking so that was it. chiggles..

SoupDragon · 29/07/2003 15:41

The other thread is here. Some people may not post here as well

runragged · 29/07/2003 19:15

Because I am!!

princesspeahead · 29/07/2003 19:20

used to be wiltshirelass until fellow mumsnetters told me that was boring. so chose a nickname of my dd's - when she was a baby she had a TINY head compared to the thumping enormous head of some friends' ds - so they used to call her princess peahead.
plus it is silly, which I like

Teletubby · 29/07/2003 19:50

Because having just had my second baby i felt i did nothing but sit in front of the tv breastfeeding whilst putting on the teletubbies to entertain my eldest!

Boe · 29/07/2003 20:08

Is bosses name, just thought was something no one would have - he is Indian/Australian - I have actually the most boring name in the world - am actually on this late because forgot to pay his congestion charge so come back to office from Bar!!! First time have been out drinking for ages Boss just meeting Dp - but they are getting on fine - mutual love of golf and cricket!! I cannot believe I have had 2 glasses of wine and am completely sloshed!!!

Finbar · 29/07/2003 20:08

Named after a character in Viz

codswallop · 29/07/2003 20:21

I thought it was an allusion to Scotland Finbar! You are a card - a real child of the 80s like me!

ninja · 29/07/2003 20:34

originally i just used my name - then decided I wanted something more anonymous but I really wish I hadn't chosen this, it sounds so .... well aggressive. It's because of one of my hobbies and a part of a nickname that a pupil once gave me (ginger ninja - in my henna days!)

Didn't turn out to be anonymous enough - the one person I told about mumsnet guessed straight away - yes you know who you are. What do you do when discovered? - that's another thread

ScummyMummy · 29/07/2003 20:37

Ninja, are you Irish? I've been wondering if I know you.

marthamoo · 29/07/2003 20:42

My nickname at school was Fenella, but that had already gone (haven't seen anyone posting under it though). Two of my friends have daughters called Martha and marthamoo (or marthamoomoo) is just a term of endearment I use for them - nothing at all to do with me breastfeeding as someone suggested when I started posting!

codswallop · 29/07/2003 20:45

My niece is called Maddiemoo as a term of endearment, and I once heard another MUm call HER Madeleine Maddie moo! I felt like telling her off!

ninja · 29/07/2003 20:59

no ScrummyMummy - not me.

I assume that you look good enough to eat tho!

ScummyMummy · 29/07/2003 21:07

I wish, ninja! Not too sure why I picked my chatname- just seemed to fit at the time.

I have a really lovely friend/aquaintance whose young baby has the same name as yours and as it's not a name I've come across before I did wonder if you were one and the same... Must just be great minds thinking alike.

ninja · 29/07/2003 21:10

It's dp whose Irish - plus I don't know anyone who would describe me as really lovely I've only ever met one other Caoimhe - just ope she's not dyslexic!

ScummyMummy · 29/07/2003 21:12

Well, I think it's a fab name and I bet you are lovely too. So there.

XAusted · 29/07/2003 21:21

I really wanted to think of a witty name but couldn't come up with one. Still, the one I've got is generally appropriate. Mind you, I got a lie in on Sunday, slept till 10 am!!! Perhaps I should now be SlightlyLessXAusted.

tinyfeet · 29/07/2003 22:21

Mine's cos whenever anyone saw DD, they would say, you guessed it, "What tiny feet!"
