Why did you choose your mumsnet name?

This has been preoccupying me (I don't get out much!). Why did you choose your mumsnet nickname, and did it take you any time to decide on it?

I have to admit I pondered briefly about mine, but decided this one would convey a witty self-deprecation about me, motherhood, ability to communicate etc (har har har, pretentious or wot). So I just wondered...

OP posts:
fisil · 31/07/2003 19:53

DP's nickname for me. No idea why.

happyspider · 31/07/2003 20:48

because I am generally happy and think that spiders bring good luck....

Ronniebaby · 31/07/2003 21:46

Wickedwaterwitch, do you realise they have now changed that name to Walter Walrus in the new books, well are you gonna change yours

aloha · 31/07/2003 21:53

Boe, when you post after wine you sound exactly like Bridget Jones!

Demented · 31/07/2003 22:08

I initially made a couple of postings in my own name but I felt very conspicuous and decided to choose a nickname instead. Everything I tried was already taken, I didn't think of putting a number after the name which would probably have been sensible, I assumed at the time that someone would be posting under these names. It was driving me 'demented', so that was the next name I tried and the rest is history! I do get notions to change it mind you as I am not sure of the initial impression it gives but it is sort of comfortable now.

Copied and pasted from the other thread as I am very lazy tonight. Nice to hear how everyone else thought up their names!

WideWebWitch · 31/07/2003 23:29

Ronniebaby, nope, not changing my name but how awful - Whatever Walrus isn't the same at all is it?

Mocha · 31/07/2003 23:40

I have a Gund bear called Mocha and was looking at him when trying to think of a name

Bossanova · 01/08/2003 01:40

Nothing to do with the dance - it's the title of a Pixies album I was listening to.

willow2 · 01/08/2003 21:18

Because I am a juvenile delinquent obsessed with a, sadly, now deceased tv programme in which my namesake was the second female lead.

willow2 · 01/08/2003 21:24

PS: bossanova - v cool choice.

Bogwoppit · 19/08/2003 00:24

started to post using shortened version of my name. Decided that was boring/obvious so I picked Bogwoppit from a book I read as a child by Ursula Moray -Williams.
always wanted to have one so decided to become one myself

eidsvold · 19/08/2003 07:51

mine is the name of a small - very small country town I used to live in in Aus... very boring but I knew no one else would have it

Gumdrop · 22/08/2003 13:48

Too much of a goody, goody..........

Jenie · 22/08/2003 14:13

Jenie because that's how a friend spelt her name, and she was/is the nicest person. Also less likely to be found out using someone elses name. Sorry Jenie if you're reading this!

sliverx2 · 22/08/2003 14:41

JanHR · 22/08/2003 15:47

Recently changed my name after Tv appearance. Those of you who watched now know my real name so decided to use it and by initials.

SimonHoward · 22/08/2003 15:59

Um, it's my name?

LOL

Rhubarb · 22/08/2003 16:35

OOOh, I'm wondering who you are now JanHR!

wickedstepmother · 22/08/2003 16:38

You must be the Brainteaser lady JanHR ?

morph · 22/08/2003 17:28

am morph because of little plasticine man type thing or alternatively I metamorphosised into a sane person when I found mumsnet (but that would be too clever and I'm not!!) did I ever thank you M2T for the first posting help you gave...should have you saved me x

hermykne · 22/08/2003 18:19

mines the phonetic pronunciation of my real name!!!

percy · 22/08/2003 19:02

mine was after ds1's favourite character - percy the park keeper.

Abbey · 22/08/2003 19:31

At school my nicknames were Abbey because of my surname and freckle freak. Maybe the later is more interesting?

mammya · 23/08/2003 00:08

Ghosty, my dd used to do that calling out mammya and daddya too, and we also replied a. Isn't that funny? I wonder if many children do the same thing? She carried on calling me mammya occasionally for quite some time but hasn't done it for the past few months, I suppose the phase is over!
