Tea Room the Fourteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 21/03/2010 18:09

Welcome to the 14th instalment of the Tea Room. It's now officially spring, and we've moved the tea room to a Gipsy caravan pulled by the tea room horses, which is making its way up the countryside in an effort to follow spring. There are of course hedgerows filled with spring flowers, Mellors the handsome gardener/driver/handyperson, the usual virtual Bishops, and the assorted animals and characters from previous tea rooms. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!) for general chat and the occasional very odd conversation. Climb aboard, grab a cuppa, enjoy the view, relax!...

TrowelAndError · 17/04/2010 12:49

Yes, 'tis very quiet. But our gain is AndO's loss.

Oh dear, Amber, about the rude e-mails. One of my friends keeps sending me invitations to buy cheap handbags, as her account is repeatedly spammed.

Soup du jour avec les petits pains tres suggestifs, anyone?

amberlight · 17/04/2010 13:08

Oui Oui - un petit bucket du soup please.

Sacre Bleu! - le roll est tres tres suggestif!

What's wrong with making gravy with Bisto?
Is there another way to do it?

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 17/04/2010 14:46

ah see, to me Bisto powder is the only way to do it - I can't abide the granules as they are way too salty. Most of the crap stuff we get here is called Gravox but it's all (and there are many different varieties of Gravox) made with wheat flour. Luckily for me there is a nice gluten free one that is quite similar to Bisto powder

A&O - sorry to hear you will be stuck so long but at least you donm't have far to go when the planes do start up again - I suppose a ferry would take too long, would it? People here in OZ have been getting as far as the ASian mid points and getting stuck there (or turning back again). THere's a lot of whinging about it on the news, but FFS would they really rather take their chances on the engines stalling from ash-attack and the plane falling out of the sky? I do despair of the sense of some people sometimes.

amber - glad things are on the mend with the Situation but sorry re. the spam.

I persuaded MrThumb to give his mate a miss re. de-virusing our laptop and take it straight to the boys in the town instead - he took it in this morning without demur and it will be back with us by Monday, by which time our monthly internet allowance will have also been reset (it's currently too low so we run out of bandwidth or something with about 3 or 4 days to go in a month, making our internet usage painful in the extreme for those last few days)

UNiS - glad you got the important things moved into your new house! It is very exciting in the first rush of a new house, I remember it.

Soup and lewd rolls hey - sounds good. May I offer macaroons as afters?

RacingSnake · 17/04/2010 21:00

[Dawning light emoticon] All these years I thought Bisto was the most unacceptable and embarrassing ingredient to be caught with! It is very easy to use - but very salty.

I hadn't realised that our local Icelandic ash had got as far as the Antipodes!

Trowel, I do enjoy weeding. So satisfying when you can see what you have achieved.

Spent a lovely afternoon with Wriggle paddling in a tiny river. Icy cold on the feet!

UniS · 17/04/2010 21:10

3 chairs might be handy, but I'm not sure where I'd put them.

Moving total has gone up a bit. contents of garden shed, 4 more unicycles, 3/4 contents of garage/workshop. outdoor furniture and plants.... We borrowed a trailer and did 3 trips. Have also painted kitchen ceiling, cleaned kitchen cupboards, fixed 2 broken sockets and removed 2 annoying wall lights...
busy day. Boy has managed to be remarkably helpful and non irritating today. Its marked difference in him 8 months older than when we last moved house.

still have jobs list as long as my arm, but some of it will wait . We might have an afternoon off tomorrow, as DH is playing cricket, I'm planing on taking boy for a long walk on the moor.

A lewd roll and butter would go down nicely now. maybe I'll seduce DH into a different kind of lewd roll later.

TrowelAndError · 17/04/2010 21:51

Unis - Just out of curiosity, how many bicycles, tandems and unicycles does the UniFamily own in all?

I've done a bit of planting today, too. I'm impressed at how much UniS has already achieved in her new abode. Although she still appears to have some energy to burn off. again.

CMOTdibbler · 17/04/2010 22:30

Goodness UniS, you have energy left over after all that moving ?

Lovely day here - am shamefully a bit pink. DS had his little friend who rides back to play after their lesson, and her new puppy joined us in the garden - and got beaten up by cat3.

DS is planting dandelions - he says he likes them.

It was CMOTDads birthday today - in an act of rebellion, I sent him flowers and chocolates, neither of which my mother approves of him having, but he loves. My great aunt (the weird one who wasn't in contact for 30 years and just phoned one day like she'd been in daily contact), got a company to send assorted frozen cheesecakes - he is marvelling at this

Bolly ?

sterrryerryoh · 17/04/2010 22:32

Hello! Am brand new here, and happy to have found this thread!
Hope you all enjoyed the lovely sunny day we had today..

TrowelAndError · 17/04/2010 22:58

Bolly would be most welcome, Cmot. I too have a pink zone around the neck of my t-shirt. Ooops.

Hello, Sterryerryoh. Lovely to meet you. I've had a great day. How was yours? Pull up a stool by the campfire and tell us about your intriguing name. What brings you here?

UniS · 17/04/2010 23:04

how many wheels?... lots.

oxeye · 18/04/2010 00:04

Hello all - I have been absent from the Tea Room for a wee while but am trying to catch up ....

Welcome to newbies and is that a Donki I see before me? I may have to backtrack to see from when you sprung....

Isn't it a lovely day. I may exert myself to a window box or two

CMOT I love your DH's secret life, I have a clear image of him snooping round JL with a LARGE bag....

oxeye · 18/04/2010 00:22

Have done a spot of catching up....

YEAH to tent, we are getting ours out. We need a new one since we discovered our old one was truly old when the rain plopped through last summer

YEAH to Viking Long Hall - the sparrow can flash through from the dark to the light and all

YEAH to new people welcome to the tea room

Wilton House- how can you not go and see Inigo Jones' single and double cube rooms? I drove there specially once just to gaze.... and I am with Trowel, I may lurk in the aspidesdra to see the Elliptical Wriggle at play...

oxeye · 18/04/2010 00:38

Two last things, I now know, thanks to CMOT that the Osprey Cannes is not an exotic bag. I don't do bags. If I did I would go for an O'Hara in brown (you see, I love you enough to google it)

And I am at the Racing Sewing Ingenuity. I shall go and find a T-shirt tomorrow.

Sorry there has been some DH fuckwittery around. Glad it is resolving

I shall now tip up into the Bolly and curl up on the sofa since the tumble weed is getting in the way

Night all

thumbwitch · 18/04/2010 05:30

talking of Mexican blankets, where has Catita got to?

Welcome to sterrryerryoh (interesting name) - have a large cup of hot chocolate with extra chocollate and cream when you wake up. I am in Oz so do strange hours on here.

amberlight · 18/04/2010 07:21

Older teen Ds is out at another of his Parties. I wonder what interesting tales await... How did we get from him being a little fiery bundle of tiny trouble to him applying for Uni places? Someone tell me...

oh dear mary! you poor thing, that's such a horrid thing to happen. Have some lovely soothing things as well to take in with you.

TrowelAndError · 18/04/2010 18:58

Oh dear, hugs and supportive shoulder massages to Mary. That is the peril of anything new, the fear and anxiety surrounding damaging it. I'm sure he knows, at some deep level, that you didn't do it on purpose.

What news of the teenage party, Amber? Any that's fit to print?

Oxeye - I think I recognise the cut of your jib. And thank you for mentioning Bede on a Sunday evening.

Is it Bolly o'clock yet?

RacingSnake · 18/04/2010 20:57

Oseye, I am not as clever as Trowel - can I have a tiny hintette?

TrowelAndError · 18/04/2010 21:14
Donki · 18/04/2010 21:16

Help! Would someone remind the Bishops that this equid does not pull the caravan - I drink tea inside it? Please? Help!

Take that harness OFF!

oxeye · 18/04/2010 21:16

Ah, Trowel, I thought I could count on you for the Venerable Bede - you with your Oscar Wilde leanings etc

Thumb, I too wondered about Catita - has she come back from her Long Trip to Rellies with a 3 day drive {shock]

Racing, umm, I take a certain pride in the fact that I named the Elliptical Wriggle thus. And I may be acquainted with the Queen

Mary oh you poor thing. When I first started going out with DH I totally twatted the door of his smart car by turning it into a concrete post (I blame it on never having had power steering before) I spent nearly a month's earnings putting it right ...

Amber, Uni already? I am sweaty palmed about the first step to primary - what plans does DS have?

oxeye · 18/04/2010 21:19

Here you are, Donk, let's get that harness off. Here is a galvanised bucket of tea, come rest your weary hooves in the hay pile

CMOTdibbler · 18/04/2010 21:20

Nice to see you Oxeye.

DH announced today that he might have to go to South Africa for 3 weeks soon. That'll be fun then . He spoilt the effect of telling me what good it would do for his career by then telling me that his boss (who is out there now trying to deal with the issue initially) was on a weekend safari currently.

DS was a pickle today. He seemed to be dog tired all day - or starving hungry. Neither of these improve his mood
