Tea Room the Fourteenth

amberlight · 21/03/2010 18:09

Welcome to the 14th instalment of the Tea Room. It's now officially spring, and we've moved the tea room to a Gipsy caravan pulled by the tea room horses, which is making its way up the countryside in an effort to follow spring. There are of course hedgerows filled with spring flowers, Mellors the handsome gardener/driver/handyperson, the usual virtual Bishops, and the assorted animals and characters from previous tea rooms. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!) for general chat and the occasional very odd conversation. Climb aboard, grab a cuppa, enjoy the view, relax!...

Of course she's called Wriggle! What else? Although I did think AmberBoy was actually called FineLad. Maybe you have decided to use a pseudonym!

Welcome, LittleTortie. I have never had a six-year old, so will allow more experienced parents-of-one to advise, but can recommend the tea room caravan. I do remember feeling very lonely in spite of having a sister!

CMOTdibbler · 08/04/2010 20:59

We have all of those things - except the uninterupted wallowing time . If you have a good cold water pressure, but not hot water, may I recommend an unvented hot water cylinder ? It has transformed our hot water from dribble to a blast.

Twigletto Sorpresa ? Don't mind if I do

Jacksmama · 08/04/2010 21:02

Just invited a mum of one - larakitten, hope she comes and joins the madness fun.

Gosh, I'm just run off my feet today!!!

RacingSnake · 08/04/2010 21:10

My bathroom wish list:

A cold tap for the bath

The disappearance of the black furry thing spreading across the ceiling

AandO · 08/04/2010 21:12

Hi ladies,

Am in Geneva. Conference was actually fun. No news, very tired. LittleO is ill, and I am not there.... But am enjoying a clean bedroom and power shower and I go home tomorrow. Better go to bed, am exhausted.

TrowelAndError · 08/04/2010 21:20

Thanks for the tip about the tank. I think it is just a problem with the tap, but it's nice to be able to talk a bit of Plumber!

Eek, Racing. What's the black thing? Is it mould (as probably being the most easily rectified problem)?

The good thing about sitting around a campfire is that there is less tidying-up to do when new people come.

UniS · 08/04/2010 22:01

or is the black furry thing growing on the ceiling actully a VERY large spider. or a kitten with good holding on powers.

Long day at work, still need to fix a bust button my trousers for tomorrow, today trews already in the wash as I get very dirty at work on out door event builds. Even on gorgeous days like today. it was a very nice day to be working in a park. not much of a view. blocks of flats and a prison. but hey the sky was blue and I didn;t find any dog shit to kneel in.

Unvented hot water cylinders rock. VERY good invention.

littletortie · 08/04/2010 22:04

Well then- I need to think of a new name for erm..... whatsherface.....

A new bathroom sounds like heaven- mine is so small- I hate it. We had our nephew over tonight and he poo'd in our bath. Whatsherface had to evacuate quick and with 4 of us all crammed in the bathroom admiring how lovely the 2 cousins looked together, it was a bit of a mad panic!!!! Cue lots of water and probably a few poo particles splashed about!!!

Thank you to whoever said I sound like a trendy Mum- I am only 29 but feel at least 30 years older most days!! Whatsherface always says she loves having a trendy mum- I cant tell if she is taking the p**s sometimes though. Street dancing is a new class starting in a village near us- Whatsherface is desperate to go, although we always have a 'review and rethink' session after 4 weeks of a class- just before I spend a fortune on uniform/outfits and to give her the chance to back out. Never works but I live in hope.....costs me a fortune....

Racing snake- whats the furry black thing???please tell!!!! xxxxxxxxxxx

littletortie · 08/04/2010 22:13

Oh and have a WICKED day planned for tomorrow!!!! A day off work and me and whatsherface are going for a huge walk with a friends collie dog- cant wait!!!

Oh and re: whatsherface playing with neighbours kids- there is a nice girl next door but she is getting a little old now to play with whatsherface and there is a little boy who is horrible to her so she avoids him. A family with 3 young girls has moved in over the winter 2 doors down- I may try to wangle a play date with them at some point. Doesnt help that I am very shy too....

A private school near us does a very good holiday club and think I have secured a few days there for the summer hols- just for the trips and fun days really! Have also sorted a few days at a local church group with a friend of mine just for play days- my friend is going to take whatsherface so that she cant gliue herself to me. It makes me feel loads better to get her out and about. My mum does a lot of our care for us but she is very stuck in her ways- the thought of sending whatsherface there for a whole 6 weeks makes me feel bad.

Need to get a grip anyway and get over the fact that she is an only and try hard to make things easier for her

TrowelAndError · 08/04/2010 22:16

Littletortie - You are 29?

My own age is an anagram of 29.

I am now having flashbacks to the time - mercifully, several years ago - when TrowelGirl pooed in the bath and then trod on it. She used to scream as she got into the bath after that. She must have been traumatised.

We also do a pause and review every time she joins a new club or class but, here too, she always want to continue with whatever the activity is. I spend the first week of every term writing cheques.

at UniS scaling the perimeter wall of a prison.

I seem to have found another bottle of Bolly. Would anyone like to share?

RacingSnake · 08/04/2010 22:24

I hope it's 'just' mould - it appears to be a map of Antarctica done in black flock wall paper and is growing. I think something must be leaking from above. Am trying to convince myself it looks just the same as it did yesterday, as my plumbing skills run no further than strategically placing yogurt pots.

Birthday fish tank now decorated with plastic plants and 'precious jewels' as designed by Wriggle and would now be perfectly at home on the set of Eastenders.

Clubs - Wriggle now does gym and will start swimming. Manages to make no contact with other children while doing club, but idolises any teenager she meets.

littletortie · 08/04/2010 22:33

On holiday 2 years ago, whatsherface poo'd in the pool. DH had to 'go fishing' for it.

We went to the beach after that.

TrowelAndError · 08/04/2010 22:37
UniS · 08/04/2010 22:45

uurk at all those poo incidents.
I din't scale the prison wall, I leave that to the prisoners. it really is a quite porous prison. Someone broke in the other year. It just happens to be a large building on the other side of the steep valley from the park I'm working in this week. sort of hard to miss unless its behind a bush.

Boy is of course boys real name... and you have my word that he really is a boy not a girl despite the liking for pink and ballet and I'm not a trucker called dave. Kinda like gizmo as a name, boy was pip till he was born, then very quickly became boy.

thumbwitch · 09/04/2010 00:47

RS - I sympathise - I had a relation of your black furry thing growing up my bathroom wall a few years ago. It was because the next door's overflow had been dribbling down the wall for some time; and then my overflow pipe got broken off short, probably by a fat pigeon sitting on it. So - water from both overflows trickling down back wall => furry black thing.

What worried me was the house next door (rented at the time) used that back room as a bedroom - at least mine was a bathroom! (DC bedroom at that )

Anyway - my point is that something probably is leaking in your ceiling/loft and you need to get someone in to deal with it before your ceiling gets too soggy and gives way. At least mine was brick wall that just needed to be replastered...

Poo - did I tell you about our beach "incident"? if not, you probably don't want to know - it was a huuuuge relief for miniThumb though who had been in quite some pain.

Littletortie - perhaps you could have tortette for your DD? if you like, and if you don't want to stay with whatsherface, that is.

A&O - glad your conference is fun, sorry that littleO is ill but it might be good for MrA to look after him? Or not?

amberlight · 09/04/2010 08:04

Morning all!

Am very at the news that the NHS is quite happy for ds to actually lose the use of his eyesight in his left eye rather than pay to have the condition halted. Even the insurance company won't cover it as it's 'chronic' rather than 'acute'

*this is of course magically vegetarian bacon for those that require it, and contains no fat nor calories at all

PS did I happen to mention that me and my (t)rusty Land Rover found ourselves in a farmer's back garden the other day due to a slight miscalculation of where a friend's driveway was? I'm not sure he was very pleased...

OP posts:
littletortie · 09/04/2010 10:13

Tortette is fab- whatsherface was just temporary till I could think of something better!!!

CMOTdibbler · 09/04/2010 10:49

Racing - I would suggest that you either have a leaking roof, or a leaking pipe in the loft - either way, you need someone to look at it as you may otherwise find yourself wearing the ceiling.

DS usually chooses when I am away for a longer trip to be ill - I hate getting emails telling me that he has had to go to the GP.

Can't believe that Amber - can you demand a referral to Moorfields, or somewhere like the Queen Victoria in East Grinstead (who are superb with corneas)? I know the girl I knew with keratoconus was treated at Moorfields, and she had a corneal transplant in one eye and a corrective contact lens in the other

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACKSMAMA *

amberlight · 09/04/2010 11:37

DS's consultant is hopping mad and trying to do something useful about it, so we'll see what happens.

Happy Birthday JM!!!!!

Tortette sounds like a splendid name for whatsherface!

Should I be worried that social services just sent me an email asking me to ring them about autism support, then sent another one asking me to ignore the first one? Opinions?

thumbwitch · 09/04/2010 12:33

OMG!! I've ACTUALLY FINISHED!!
well as much as I'm going to do, I'm sure I missed more bits than I noticed at the last minute

Going to the Royal Easter Show tomorrow - at least I'll have 1.5h drive to Sydney to try and catch up on some sleep...

Night all!

CMOTdibbler · 09/04/2010 12:52

Hurrah for Thumb and the index of doom !

I'd say it was just SS incompetence Amber. Or someone thought you'd be a good consultant about autism support, and then someone else realised there was no budget for it.

Photos of the bathroom before and after on my profile now. The before was the day we moved in, so we did remove the lace curtain

Jacksmama · 09/04/2010 17:11

Congratulations to thumb for finishing the Index of Doom!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes - I had a little sleep-in, am now going for a haircut, and then doing a bit of shopping. A Good Day!

larakitten · 09/04/2010 21:00

(peeks round door of the tearoom to check its open......) Yoohoo?? Room for one more? I'll have a decaff cappucino and a fruit scone....sod it, DH is out tonight so make that a large magners and some mini eggs.

Laughing reading about the bathroom wish list? I'd like the large spider thats resident in the family bathroom to leave please. He's been there some time. I don't know what he finds to eat in there but ther must be SOMETHING!! I normally get my cat to deal with spiders on my behalf (she despatches them pretty fast), but he's on the roof and she's not that clever.......

Anyone up to much over the weekend? I have my sewing class (yippee!!) and then shopping for a new telly for the living room.

Hate to write and run, but I need my Ashes to Ashes fix. Gene Genie?? Yes please!!! He can fire up my quattro anyday lol!!

CMOTdibbler · 09/04/2010 21:48

Hi Larakitten - come right in and have a drink.

One of our former cats sat and stared at a spider on the wall until it fell off out of sheer fright - so maybe that would work ?

What are you learning to sew ?

We had a nice evening - picked DS up from nursery together, made a fuss of his friends puppy in the carpark, then DS cycled to the library, got some books and came home via the chip shop. DS v v v excited that a friend is coming to riding with us tomorrow, and is coming back to play afterwards
