The SIXTH Tea Room - Everyone Welcome

Jacksmama · 21/03/2009 00:18

The One Child Tea Room started as a sort of sanctuary for anyone who was a bit tired of the controversy surrounding having one child only, for whatever reason. The topic seems to attract that sort of thing. So we thought we needed a place where a cup of tea and a muffin and a place to sit down and relax was needed - and judging by the number of visitors and regulars, it really was much needed!

The tea room has since undergone a few, shall we say, metamorphoses... it started as a charming bricks and mortar sort of place, with a lovely English garden, a ha-ha in the distance, and wonderful mismatched crockery.

But since the tea room is truly magical, at night, the glitter ball comes out, and booze and sofas canapees are served. During the daytime, there is a stable with (at last count) two horses, Earl and Lady Grey, who appreciate being exercised. We also have (at last count) two guinea pigs, RacingPig and RacingMissPiggy... but since they seem to have been up to no good, that count may increase shortly.

In its most recent incarnation, the tea room became a yurt, and we had Mellors The Gardener show up in buckskin trousers and no shirt (which caused several of the regulars to either fan themselves with whatever magazines were available, or faint prettily, preferably into Mellors' arms), and there seems to have been an errant bison or two.
Oh, and we also had the Naked Mohawk Babies - they were originally cake decorations (for the life of me, I cannot find the link right now) - and they have since taken on lives of their own, adding much amusement to the tea room.

Decorations include cut-outs of George Clooney, Wesley Snipes, and any other hunks of burning love we can think of. Oh, and peace lilies, and (since nothing seems to be able to kill the damn thing) an aspidistra.

For those who are shy of company, or fleeing controversial threads, we have a Priest Hole to hide relax in.

Please remember that the tea room is magical - no amount of Bolly swilled will cause a hangover, allergies of any type mean nothing, so you can eat and drink whatever you like, and if you don't fancy the distressed-looking couch, a brand-new comfy arm chair will appear in seconds.

EVERYONE is welcome, whether you have one child, none, or ten. In fact, one of our regulars is currently pregnant!!

The only strict rule we enforce is no fisticuffs. Anyone who behaves disagreeably will be ejected by Mellors (fully clad).

Most important of all - the tea room is meant for fun and support. It's perfectly acceptable, and in fact, mandatory, to be a little unhinged yourself.

Welcome all!!

(I've had a somewhat trying day so I will leave the crating and moving of china, and the actual shaping of the tea room, to everyone else... I did hear rumours of a spa being added, however, so please, book me in for a pedicure, will you? Thanks!)

Chocolate covered hay? Is it dark chocolate? Is it timothy hay? Ryegrass is just too tough and chewy...

Donk · 27/03/2009 20:50

[fussy donkey emoticon]

We need a picture Tea ! I was thinking that wide brimmed would be the way to go with a dress like that.

I think we need a Tea room hat swap as like MT and MadBad I have a large head - which means that I have to get hats stretched to fit. I do want someone to get married soon so that I can wear the posh ones again

DS went to bed still swapping between lemurs and lambs. I forgot to talk about the chicks at the farm, so that may win as he loves seeing them hatching - I'm easy either way as I know that we'll be making a few visits to either during the season anyway.

Not a lot of sheep locally MadBad as this is a fruit/veg area, but yes we will be driving past them on the way.

I have some rather nice lucerne hay for you Donk

RacingsnakeLovesHerNewCar · 27/03/2009 21:00

Drov my new (to me) car to work today. No-one waved back when I passed them, due (I hope) that they didn't recognise me.

This is due to the fact that the lovely new car has:

two mudguards
no need for a rope to hold on the exhaust
a rear-windscreen wiper
four doors that all close

and all sorts of gimmiicky things I have never had before, like central locking and electric windows and a dozen buttons Which I don't yet understand.

Also a wonderful engine which gowls throatily and doors that clunk.

RacingsnakeLovesHerNewCar · 27/03/2009 21:01

Brrrmmmm, brrrrrmmmm ....

Donk · 27/03/2009 21:17

I'm glad you are enjoying your new car RS!
But please could you drive it back out of the tea room - it takes up rather a lot of space, and I'm worried that you might run over my tail...

RacingsnakeLovesHerNewCar · 27/03/2009 21:34

Sorry; not used to driving an estate (however small) yet. Will go and park it next to the stables for Mellors to give a quick wax and polish tomorrow.

Writing reports - finished 8/110. And I started with the easy ones.

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 22:19

We've got friends nearby who remodeled their house. The central dining room was carefully designed so that the stairs carefully highlight the Triumph motorbike, and the room's colours are arranged to suit it . Amber, I think you'd get on well with them! (that was in a techie, engineering sort of way by the way)

I think that sort of hat will be just right Tea. And I do like highlights in short hair - and, of course, with short hair you don't have to worry about 'hat' hair as much either!

Donk - yes, of course its dark chocolate - Blacks in fact, and I don't think rye grass comes in organic, so its meadow grass (complete with assorted herbs and flowers) - I hope that's alright?

RacingsnakeLovesHerNewCar · 27/03/2009 22:33

Soooooooooooo bored with reports.

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 22:39

Howabout report 'bingo'? The first report you do you've got to put in a word beginning with 'A', the second 'b' etc - and they can't be run of the mill ones either!!!!

RacingsnakeLovesHerNewCar · 27/03/2009 22:45

Definitely will try that with the next class. Only 3 left for this class (and 5 classes to go) Where did you get that idea from. It's genius.

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 22:50

My father used a bit of a similar ploy when writing proofs of evidence for planning inquiries - he aimed to have to get the barristers to consult the OeD (2 vol version)

Really it just came to me - you might have to excuse yourself some of the more peculiar letters, or combine x,y,z etc, but look forward to seeing the lists for the remainder of the letters - we only want the 'interesting' words - or perhaps in the context of a short extracted phrase?

It made me laugh reading ds's report a couple of weeks ago. You could read it one way - but if you used a different tone of voice it meant something completely different!!!!

RacingsnakeLovesHerNewCar · 27/03/2009 22:58

That was the teacher trying to retain the will to live.

RacingsnakeLovesHerNewCar · 27/03/2009 23:01

Has anyone seen the NMBs? I could have sworn I heard a sleepy little snore from outside just before Mellors shut the boot again for the umpteenth time.

Donk · 27/03/2009 23:29

RS - what kind of Skoda estate is it? The Fabia? (I only ask because we are having to think about a new car soon)

RacingsnakeLovesHerNewCar · 27/03/2009 23:36

Yep, skoda fabia estate. Did loads of research and that came out top. I don't really know anything about cars, but reviews were good and I am just so excited about anything with all its parts attached and functioning.

First 28 reports finished; off to bed. Good night, all. (Or rather both, as the tea room is remarkably quiet tonight.)

mistlethrush · 28/03/2009 07:33

We've got the Octavia estate - and really like it - very similar to yours, just a bit bigger (due to transportation problems with double bass, dog, MJ and the two of us plus packing on occasions...) - when I started my current job I was offered a company car but turned it down as it was a saloon rather than hatchback or estate which meant our existing polo was more able to accommodate the db. 3 yrs later polo started falling to bits significantly and I asked if I could have a Company car after all - they seemed happy with the suggested choice between Focus estate, vauxhall estate and Octavia estate - Octavia turned out to be the largest on the inside and less expensive... I think we'll opt for another when it comes to renewing.

But yes, its nice having a car where you think that you'll get to the end of the journey without something else going wrong.

I'm quite glad the clocks are going forward tomorrow - we have a short opportunity for MJ getting up at about the right time. This morning he came into our room too early again - didn't want to got back and read some books in his room - promised to not wriggle, then proceeded to wriggle (and pat me, stroke me, fiddle with my nightshirt, stick fingers on my nose etc etc) until I got so frustrated I just got up with him....

amber32002 · 28/03/2009 07:56

Morning all. Grr re MJ, mistlethrush!

Hmm, car tyre marks on the distressed oak floorboards?! I never know what I'll find when emerging from whatever corner of the tea room I've been sleeping in, that's for sure

Skodas are brilliant cars, and have the happiest owners, too. And as for a house designed around a motorbike, that sounds ideal.

I think we might need a tea room library for all these manuals and books and magazines, y'know. and a new hatstand for the hats, too? Maybe a wardrobe for the posh dresses?

A friend of ours is having to part company with his dogs for a while for family-crisis reasons, so we're looking at one of the three of them tomorrow to see if one would like a foster home with us. In theory a bit early to be considering it maybe, but Mrs C is so sad by herself now, and none of the rooms look right without Mrs A taking up 90% of the floorspace.

mistlethrush · 28/03/2009 08:34

Its really difficult to know what to do isn't it Amber - but, if the dog is nice, it might be nice for Mrs A - and at least you'll be helping to potentially keep it out of a shelter - and the RSPCA add I saw last night seemed to suggest that they are all rather full at the moment.

Its amazing how much presence a dog has - even if they mainly stopped in their basket and didn't do much else....

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 28/03/2009 13:51

My mind is boggling at the notion that there are different sorts of hay. I had always thought that hay was just, well, hay.

Amber - I know nothing about dogs - I'm a bit scared of them really - but Mistle's suggestion sounds good to me. It is quite soon to be thinking of another pet but it would be a companion for Mrs C and, if it didn't go smoothly, you'd still know that the arrangement was finite.

Racing - what colour is your new car? (I'm trying to combine what seem to be our two current themes of vehicles and fashion).

Vroom, vroom!

JeremyClarksonLikesToTalkCars · 28/03/2009 13:58

Ladies. I heard you talking about cars. May I join you?

Any chance of a cup of tea? Now, racingsnake, let's go and inspect your electric windows.

amber32002 · 28/03/2009 14:26

Arrghh! There's an unidentified man trying to make eye contact with me!

Tea? Certainly. Sorry 'bout that. No chance you've also brought James May with you, is there?

mistlethrush · 28/03/2009 14:28

Yes, if James May is around, we can push the grand piano in and he can provide us with some suitable music for the afternoon.

amber32002 · 28/03/2009 15:03

Is it a very well-tuned grand piano, by any chance?
