The SIXTH Tea Room - Everyone Welcome

Jacksmama · 21/03/2009 00:18

The One Child Tea Room started as a sort of sanctuary for anyone who was a bit tired of the controversy surrounding having one child only, for whatever reason. The topic seems to attract that sort of thing. So we thought we needed a place where a cup of tea and a muffin and a place to sit down and relax was needed - and judging by the number of visitors and regulars, it really was much needed!

The tea room has since undergone a few, shall we say, metamorphoses... it started as a charming bricks and mortar sort of place, with a lovely English garden, a ha-ha in the distance, and wonderful mismatched crockery.

But since the tea room is truly magical, at night, the glitter ball comes out, and booze and sofas canapees are served. During the daytime, there is a stable with (at last count) two horses, Earl and Lady Grey, who appreciate being exercised. We also have (at last count) two guinea pigs, RacingPig and RacingMissPiggy... but since they seem to have been up to no good, that count may increase shortly.

In its most recent incarnation, the tea room became a yurt, and we had Mellors The Gardener show up in buckskin trousers and no shirt (which caused several of the regulars to either fan themselves with whatever magazines were available, or faint prettily, preferably into Mellors' arms), and there seems to have been an errant bison or two.
Oh, and we also had the Naked Mohawk Babies - they were originally cake decorations (for the life of me, I cannot find the link right now) - and they have since taken on lives of their own, adding much amusement to the tea room.

Decorations include cut-outs of George Clooney, Wesley Snipes, and any other hunks of burning love we can think of. Oh, and peace lilies, and (since nothing seems to be able to kill the damn thing) an aspidistra.

For those who are shy of company, or fleeing controversial threads, we have a Priest Hole to hide relax in.

Please remember that the tea room is magical - no amount of Bolly swilled will cause a hangover, allergies of any type mean nothing, so you can eat and drink whatever you like, and if you don't fancy the distressed-looking couch, a brand-new comfy arm chair will appear in seconds.

EVERYONE is welcome, whether you have one child, none, or ten. In fact, one of our regulars is currently pregnant!!

The only strict rule we enforce is no fisticuffs. Anyone who behaves disagreeably will be ejected by Mellors (fully clad).

Most important of all - the tea room is meant for fun and support. It's perfectly acceptable, and in fact, mandatory, to be a little unhinged yourself.

Welcome all!!

(I've had a somewhat trying day so I will leave the crating and moving of china, and the actual shaping of the tea room, to everyone else... I did hear rumours of a spa being added, however, so please, book me in for a pedicure, will you? Thanks!)

Thanks for the offerings. Much appreciated.

We don't exactly know. Heart tests showed up something they didn't like. More tests at the end of month. I saw the ECG printout and there's definitely variation in rhythm and pattern here and there, but can't tell more than that. Could be benign, could not be. Just don't need any more right now.

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 12:34

At one stage my mother had a brain scan done. They told her it was abnormal. And left it at that. . Don't you just love the medical profession sometimes! I would much prefer it if they told you a bit more and explained things a bit better (or even handed out a leaflet) so that you had more idea of whether there was anything wrong, and, if there were, why, how, what etc.

Let us know about the next lot and I hope things are OK. When you say end of the month - are you meaning Mon/Tues next week, or the following month?

BTW I think a few of the NMBs have woken up, and a few might have crept down into the Priest's hole while you weren't looking - you might have to avoid the bit of the cake with footprints on

daisy99divine · 27/03/2009 12:49

Mistle
so sorry about MJ and DH - I assume the agency haven't come through yet, but I agree lovingis the best and feeling secure for MJ although not easy to balance is it?

Amber
so sorry re your hubby

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 13:06

No, nothing coming through at the moment. However, dh has organised a training course (Project Management) which hopefully will open up more jobs - its one of those 'withouth the certification you can't get the job even if you can do it standing on your head' type issues that are really frustrating.

We've cut back on lots of non-essentials, so we will get by for a while. During which time he'll have to get a job

What's the weather like with everyone else - here we're mainly sunny, quite cold and very windy...

daisy99divine · 27/03/2009 13:58

weather is windy and cloudy.

not very enticing

I feel like quiche for lunch today. ANyone care to join in?

any lewd rolls?

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 14:15

Squish would be lovely thank you Daisy. Would you like some fresh sping leaves to go with that?

Racingsnake · 27/03/2009 14:52

Bizarrely, my dispaly changed completely between p10 and p 11 so I now feel rather lost and insecure. What are they doing at MNHQ??

daisy99divine · 27/03/2009 15:17

your display changed?
are you a bird of paradise
don't feel in secure racing it's just that mum from school spoke to MN Towers and withdrew your display rights for a bit

Jacksmama · 27/03/2009 15:18

Sympathetic vibes to Amber for Hubby's tests and to Mistle for having to face moving...

warm almond muffins,anyone?

OP posts:
daisy99divine · 27/03/2009 15:54

almond muffins, YUM

was a bit about sprig leaves - sounded possibility healthy

amber32002 · 27/03/2009 15:56

Muffins? Could I have mine with no almonds please? MT, you're right - there's small footprints in that cake from earlier! Big scan for dh on Monday for brain, and then heart thingies end of April. sigh

More tea on...Can't tell what the weather is like down here. Might need a periscope.

Catitainahatita · 27/03/2009 16:11

Hello,

Good luck to Mr. A with all his tests and things.

I hope things manage to work out for you MT, and MJ can stay at his school. Change is always upseting when you are little.

Here its sweltering hot, high 30s (centigrade); we've made to it to spring and now only have the summer temps of 40s to look forward too

My endocrinologist says I'm not to worry about the blood tests too much, since all pregnant women are anemic and the other thing, sorry can´t remember it's name, it a consequence of it, but should clear up once I'm nolonger anemic.

Jacksmama · 27/03/2009 16:30

Anisocytosis. Yeah, it just sometimes goes along with anaemia, not a big cause for worry.

Has your parcel arrived yet???

OP posts:
CMOTdibbler · 27/03/2009 16:40

Yes please to the muffins

Sorry to hear about your DH Amber. The good thing is that if they were really worried, he'd be in having the tests right now - when I was showing some odd heart things they had me in the next day, even though I protested that I had always had those symptoms

Sorry MJ is finding it hard MT. A Project Management qual is really worthwhile doing. I love the hat you found for Tea. I am a bit of a hat addict.

We have a decision to make in the CMOT household - tomorrow morning, should we go to see the Lemurs or the lambs ? Dh is voting for the lemurs. This is before we head to the hotel for an afternoon/evening of family socialisation. Have booked a cream tea at 4pm before dinner later. No need to deal with evil SIL until 8

amber32002 · 27/03/2009 17:17

Lemurs? Excellent.

daisy99divine · 27/03/2009 17:19

Go for the lemurs CMOT!

sounds like you are in for a heavenly weekend. I have a conference. I have boyache already

thumbwitch · 27/03/2009 17:33

amber - sorry to hear your DH is up for more tests but fingers crossed it is a benign sort of hiccup on the ECG. I have occasional extopic heartbeats (but admittedly have never had an ECG as such so don't know whether they'd show) and an erratic pulse - so it may be something he has had forever and has never caused any problem.

Catitainahatita · 27/03/2009 17:38

I went and checked my mail this morning, JM. There was just a letter for someone with the same mailbox number but in the neighbouring town of Gonzalez from an impressive sounding oil company in Texas.
Hopefully I will be eating ginger biscuits by Monday.

CMOT: I vote for the lemurs also. The cream tea sounds delicious. I think we should have one just now with the toasted teacakes ... I'm sure I an find some scones, jam and clotted cream around here somewhere.

Aah! Scone and cream anyone?

Catitainahatita · 27/03/2009 17:38

Hot Cross Buns, not teacakes. Sorry.

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 17:43

Luckily, hardly any hats fit me, otherwise I would need an entire wardrobe to put them in - I love hats and they rather suit me!

CMot - another vote for lemurs here. Dh and I had one fabulous experience with lemurs - Scottish holidy, one of the days was pouring with rain (litterally stair rods) - we decided to go to a wildlife park (small, mainly exotics). We were the only visitors when we got there, so we had an accompanied tour. THe owner appologised that we couldn't go in the lemur cage and have the adult lemurs coming down for food from us - but proceeded to take us to the lemur building, let us into the 'porch' (door shut behind, although not much room) - then he went into the lemurs and 'borrowed' the baby lemur which was asleep. He then handed it over to dh -it gradually woke up in his arms, then climbed over both of us. Is hands and feet were just amazing. It was better than having the group of spider monkeys let out to climb all over us (we both needed a good bath that night )

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 27/03/2009 18:05

Amber - Offering further muffins, supportive waves and positive thoughts for your dh's next sets of tests.

The hat which Cmot suggested for tea is truly gorgeous, but I would want it in that hot pink colour and not insipid lilac. I too am a hat addict and it's only the fact that I have a fat head unusually large cranium which keeps my addiction within any sort of bounds.

Sorry to be contrary, but I would vote for lambs. I adore lemurs but there's something about the seasonal excitement of watching baby lambs gambolling around which makes it compelling. But then, I am a townie and have to go in search of lambs. Perhaps you will be driving past fields of lambs anyway without making a special trip.

This cream tea is yummy. Thanks, catita.

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 19:20

Hey that was MY hat!!!. But I do agree with you that it is required in hot fuchsia not insipid mauve

My riding hat size is 7 3/8 - but that's rather crammed on. And I couldn't get a one-size cycle helmet recently - I had to get a large

Ds has taken after me - he is in an adult medium hat (which we got when he was 2 and a bit)

Donk · 27/03/2009 19:38

Mmmmm - cream teas! (I hope it's not too un-donkey-like to like them?)

Amber - I will keep my ears crossed for MrA. You can borrow DS's trusty Haynes manual on tractors if you like.

I will blush and admit that as a fully paid up member of the 'no-fashion sense' brigade, the only hats I ever wear are my riding hat, cycle helmet, and an australian bush hat (in the summer)

My Dad finally starts radiotherapy on April 15th - I can't believe how long it is taking... I am practically chewing the carpet

mistlethrush · 27/03/2009 19:56

Donk - I don't know whether this would interest you - I found some chocolate covered organic hay - I'll just put it down over here in case you feel like it.

I'm glad there is at least a date set - sorry its so far away, but at least you have the date.

I have a Tilley hat that I use as a sun hat in the summer. I would love some glamorous hats, but they really don't come in my size at a price that I can justify for the few times that I would manage to wear it!

teafortwo · 27/03/2009 20:43

Milk and I are just back from a good shop attack - we bought a hat for my head and banana split for Milk's tummy.

I went thinking I would buy something barely there and so so subtle like this....

static.guim.co.uk/Guardian/lifeandhealth/gallery/2008/mar/27/1/GD6707799@Carla-Bruni-the-wife--2218. jpg

But ended up with something a bit more like this...

msp258.photobucket.com/albums/hh266/Crazy_pan/audrey_hepburn.jpg

  • and I love it!!!!!

I also have an appointment at the hairdressers to have some high-lights put into hair and they will show me a few different ways of drying my new style so I can find someway of sorting it out that doesn't make me cry!!!!

Hair crisis over.... pheeeeeeeew!!!

Thanks tearoom ladies for all your support!!!!!
