Oh Donki, I wish MN had a [like] button!

MaudantWit · 10/05/2014 20:44

That does sound very satisfying, Donki.

::naughty::

Well done on a happy and harmonious playdate [word I only ever see on MN], Bean.

Donki · 10/05/2014 20:49

Well done Bean!

beanandspud · 10/05/2014 20:50

Maud, I have never used 'play date' out loud Grin

MaudantWit · 10/05/2014 20:57

I think it's acceptable to use the word playdate as one as one does so with an inward wink.

Scout19075 · 10/05/2014 21:23

I had never heard of playdate until I moved to the UK and started on MN. I've heard it IRL but I cringe and then wonder if the person speaking is an MNer.

Glad it went well, Bean.

SB and I have spent most of the day clashing. Thank goodness for MrScout and SB's bedtime or I might just have lost it completely.

CMOTDibbler · 10/05/2014 21:27

The shirt thing sounds most satisfying, and a lovely afternoon with MT and co Donki.

Congrats Bean - I find these things much easier we can throw them in the woods with the dog!

AnneOfCleavage · 10/05/2014 21:31

Oooh how come I've never come across this topic before (been a member for years although have nc a couple of times). May I join? I have a DD age 9. She's had a friend round from midday and they ambushed me by coming down in onesies at about 2pm saying 'can we have a sleepover?' so I now have 2x hyper 9yr olds running around. I've escaped to mn for a bit Smile

mistlethrush · 10/05/2014 21:37

Anne you are very welcome! Nice name - very suitable to fit in here really.

If you need hints on any backstories please ask... its one of those tearooms where you tend to to come back regularly and so get to know most of the other tea room regulars as you end up sharing tables or sofas on occasions.

I also have a single 9yo. He's fast asleep - having been having a 'doggy' afternoon where we met Donki and her DS and mistlehound had a race. Mistlehound is also blissfully asleep - remarkably still for her - hardly any racing around in her sleep - clearly even that was well bounced and run out!

Scout19075 · 10/05/2014 21:37

Hello, Anne. Come, join us and hide from hyper nine year olds. We have Brew or Wine.

Trying yet again! to explain Eurovision to friends and family back home. To be fair you really do have to experience it to fully appreciate it.

beanandspud · 10/05/2014 21:42

Hello Anne and welcome. I have a 6yr old who is mad as a box of frogs Grin

This is a relaxing place to catch up with others, the tearoom has been open for several years now and although some things might need explaining we are a friendly bunch who meet to share life, celebrations, struggles and other stuff.

AnneOfCleavage · 10/05/2014 21:43

Thanks mistlethrush Smile How lucky are you that you have an asleep DC. Fingers crossed I'll get the pair tucked in in a bit - they want to sleep in the lounge as DD room is a mess so I'm stuck upstairs. DH out tonight so who's betting he wakes them up when I've just got them settled.

Looking at the thread title it seems this has been going on for quite some time.

Judging by your day you'll be asleep soon too. I love dog walking... don't have one of our own but borrow a friends from time to time. Just love it Smile

AnneOfCleavage · 10/05/2014 21:48

Hey thanks Scout and bean too. What a lovely welcoming lot you are.

DH is out at a friends watching the Eurovision. There's a whole bunch of them. I'll find out later if his Country won or not hope he hasn't picked England

All is dangerously quiet on the DC front so will pop downstairs to investigate. I bet they are outside on the trampoline or something... gah!

Scout19075 · 10/05/2014 21:48

Oh, I forgot to ask earlier do any of the Tea Room DCs play tennis? SB keeps saying he wants to play and today we found a flyer for a mini tennis class in our town and he's insistent he wants to learn how to play tennis. I'm trying to work out if it would be good for him I don't think he's the most coordinated but think tennis might help with that--.

beanandspud · 10/05/2014 21:53

Scout, Small Bean doesn't have tennis lessons (although like a lot of things I suspect he thinks he would be good at it!)

What we do enjoy though is having a net up in the garden and playing badminton/tennis together. If he does prove to have any talent then lessons can wait for a few years.

Scout19075 · 10/05/2014 21:57

Unfortunately our little back garden is a hill so not really good for a net, no matter which way we put it I've tried. The class, from what I can tell, isn't very formal and is more of just letting the kids hit balls around like the little loonies they are.

Scout19075 · 10/05/2014 21:59

Actually, that reminds me, we do have a swing tennis game that we got last year and was a hit. I'll have to give it a dust down and dig out the ball & bats (I brought those in for the winter).

UniS · 10/05/2014 22:03

boy went to mini tennis for a bit when he was preschool age. he loved it. lots of games and fun stuff with balls and bats . He does like hitting a ball with a stick.
now he is into cricket and fond of crazy golf. also has a swingball set in the garden which he is quite adept at.

Donki · 10/05/2014 22:19

Welcome Anne - I'm the one with hoves, a tassley tail and long ears. Please don't mind the hay pile in the corner.

The Young Donkey is 11 and in his last year of primary school. He is not sporty in any shape or form - although he has recently tried horse riding (I am desperate to get him doing something) and admits to quite liking it. He also likes going on his mountain bike - so long as it doesn't involve going uphill. Which is a bit of a drawback.

MaudantWit · 10/05/2014 22:24

And a hello from me. I have been hanging around the tea room since its earliest days ::ancient:: and have one tweenage daughter.

AnneOfCleavage · 10/05/2014 23:16

Hi Donki & Maud. I'll have to remember my tablets as I'm a hayfever sufferer so a haypile may set me off [sniff, sniff]. I don't have a particularly sporty DC either but DH is trying to get us all into bike rides and has just bought a bike rack for the car.

I feel my DD is heading for the tweenage years already (she'll be 10 soon) - getting moody & gobby. Need to crack down hard while it's just starting. She shows off in front of her friends so I have a word with her in front of her friends saying it's unacceptable etc but it's not working. Doesn't help that the friend is sniggering most probably from embarrassment but still.

Girls are in bed. I've read them 3 chapters to calm them down and they are just quietly chatting. Will tell them shh in a min as it's so late.

Donki · 11/05/2014 00:47

Am I the only person in the Universe who didn't watch the Eurovision Song Contest?

(Insomnia strikes again)

Donki · 11/05/2014 00:48

(Well, apart maybe from some Martians)

AnneOfCleavage · 11/05/2014 09:18

No, I didn't watch it either. I was invited to the party but declined. DH came home with double what he put in - result!!

UniS · 11/05/2014 09:47

didn't watch Eurovision either. who won? did Russia get any points?
The video on YouTube with all 26 songs in 12 mins was as far as I got this year.
