here is the comma because I know you will be missing it... ,

Hello Tea, hello JM, lovely to see you both.

Has anyone else's house been taken over by loom bands?

Scout, can I recommend the 'naked' range of hair products - they do children's ones that DS likes (Jam sandwich, banana and custard, toffee apple) and I think they do a children's conditioner too.

Jacksmania · 13/06/2014 00:24

Oh, don't talk to me about rainbow loom. The bloody bands are all over my house!!!!

MaudantWit · 13/06/2014 07:05

The Girl is just slightly too old to be interested in loom bands. Luckily for me.

Lovely to see you, Jacksmania. How's the garden?

teafortwo · 13/06/2014 07:08

Yes - we are rainbow looming here too! Not as messy as Scooby doos were this time last year. When we went to a music festival and a rapper came on Milk wandered off and came back knowing the basics of crochet.... she wants to learn more but I haven't got the foggiest.... I thought of you Jack because I think I remember you saying it is one of your many skills....

teafortwo · 13/06/2014 07:15

We have girl scout campout this weekend.... V V V excited apart from one thing..... I don't like s'mores.... and have to pretend they are delish or everyone thinks I am not a real girl scout..... BLLLLLEEEEUUUUUGH!!!!!!!!

mistlethrush · 13/06/2014 07:16

I know the basics too... My godmother taught me. DS got the (really, really bad) instructions and got very frustrated. DH gave up too and got cross. I then managed to sort something else out that got the basics established and DS has since taught himself a 'fishtail' from the internet.

MaudantWit · 13/06/2014 07:52

I used to do ( fairly basic) crochet - fancy stitches but basic shapes like hats and scarves. I am not in Jacksmania's league, though.

Are loom bands less messy than scoobidoos? I feared the opposite. I thought of doing them at Brownies but baulked at the cost/faff/mess.

Do parents get to go on the Girl Scout sleep out, then, tea?

teafortwo · 13/06/2014 09:11

Yes until they are juniors which are older Brownies and young Guides age in the British system I think... it is a stepping stone between the two anyway... a Parent MUST go. It is lovely. Generally lots of Mummy and daughters having fun together in the woods and then the older ones have a separate space where they hang out being too cool for words and totally lovely with it. We stay one night and the biggies stay one or two depending on their enthusiasm... I think some would happily stay a year! I purposely sent Milk over to the big girls to ask them for something so they could model what being a teenage girl is all about.... ; )

teafortwo · 13/06/2014 09:19

Maud - I had an idea - rainbow loom has a hook which is what attracted Milk to crochet at the festival and made her totally non phased about giving it a go..... maybe your girls would prefer to learn some simple crochet at Brownies? Milk made a friendship bracelet by making the chain andthen joining it together a bit. It is snot green - GOODNESS knows WHY she chose that colour BUT she is VERY proud of it as she certainly should be because she put a lot of effort into it while I- watched and sipped at my festival Heineken.

mistlethrush · 13/06/2014 09:41

I don't know if they're less messy - we've managed to corral them into a box with a top, with the loom on the side and I've not found too many stray bands yet - they are small too so not going to cause a trip hazard or something to hurt a foot if you tread on it which helps.

CMOTDibbler · 13/06/2014 10:08

Ds has taken to the loom bands too. Its funny to see this group of boys who are usually running round sitting concentrating on their bands

Scout19075 · 13/06/2014 12:34

What's a Scooby Doo besides a cartoon dog?

teafortwo · 13/06/2014 20:08

Plastic string that they knot in a particular way into things that look like caterpillar.... then give to you with love in their eyes.....

I am packing for camping trip.... I was allocated potato buyer.... they are heavy and take up lots of room.... sigh!!!!

MaudantWit · 14/06/2014 00:10

Scoobidoos were originally French, weren't they, Tea?

I have had a lovely evening at a dinner party where ::fanfare:: Oxeye was a fellow guest. London is a vast and anonymous city but we have a friend in common. She says hi to all who remember her.

Scout19075 · 14/06/2014 19:54

Hello!

Oh, gimp, yes, I know that. It's flat plastic string though you can buy round plastic string as well. I have my camp whistle on a lanyard made of the stuff. Once upon a time I used to be really good at making all sorts of things with a roll of the stuff and some hooks/key rings.

Awesome storm/s here in PiLshire last night. I didn't sleep well but the rest of the house slept through it all.

I have presents of various sorts to wrap, cards to sign and cards to get SB to sign. He's up in bed, though, reading science books with MrScout.

beanandspud · 14/06/2014 23:08

Maudant please say hello to Oxeye for me, is Mr Oxeye still away (down the Limpopo?!?). Hope Oxboy also doing well.

We are being taken over by World Cup. I am trying hard not to be grumpy but it does seem as if it's the only topic of conversation chez Bean at the moment.

MaudantWit · 14/06/2014 23:23

We are (mercifully) a World Cup-free household. The Bloke is currently slumped on the sofa, dozing through a repeat of Foyle's War, rather than watching the game. Fine by me.

And, yes, OxBloke is currently up the Limpopo, so I didn't get to meet him. Maybe he doesn't exist?

Scout19075 · 15/06/2014 04:32

It's 430 a.m. and SB seems to think it's time to start the day. NO!

MaudantWit · 15/06/2014 07:56

Oh no, Scout. I'm unhappy enough at being awake before 8am on a Sunday. Tell him Mrs Maud says he should go back to bed!

Scout19075 · 15/06/2014 08:26

I fear, Maud, I growled at him. After he went to the toilet we had a stand off about reading his (new) lift the flap and see inside the Earth book. Basically I forced him back to sleep (I think he fell asleep by 4:45). I woke up around 7 and he slept until 7:30 -- a positive lie-in by his standards.

We've just finished signing cards and wrapping presents (for today). I still need to wrap a few birthday gifts but I'll do the later.

MaudantWit · 15/06/2014 08:39

Growling at that unearthly time in the morning is perfectly excusable! We wrapped our gifts yesterday evening, but we had a late night as we went out to dinner so I am now waiting for The Girl to wake up, so she can hand them over.

Scout19075 · 15/06/2014 09:16

SB is very happy now.

MaudantWit · 15/06/2014 21:12

How has your day been?

Scout19075 · 15/06/2014 21:37

Ours was okay until about an hour ago. How has your day been, Maud?
