Fine, thanks. What went wrong an hour ago?

Scout19075 · 16/06/2014 06:43

Short version is SiL/BiL brought their still at home brood of under-10s (including one overly tired just turned two year old) over, ringing the doorbell at 2034, waking SB up and causing him stress. They have done it before recently. I pointed it out to them (they know we're here, they pass our car on the driveway, so can't plead ignorance) and they ignored me. My FiL even asked what time was the toddler's bedtime and got ignored.

Took ages to calm/settle SB again (they weren't exactly quiet for the 20/25 minutes or so they were here).

I try to be charitable and I try not to judge but damn it's hard. I don't particularly like them and try to spend as little time as possible with them. Things like bringing a brood of overly tired children over past their bedtimes and waking my own son in the process just don't make me like them any more.

Scout19075 · 16/06/2014 16:24

SB is an absolute bear today. He's so tired he's miserable. Roll on bed time!

MaudantWit · 16/06/2014 20:42

Oh dear. Will an early night tonight out him back on track?

I have drawn the USA in the office World Cup sweepstake. I don't expect to win.

Scout19075 · 17/06/2014 09:26

We were travelling/not home yesterday so trying to keep SB going was a challenge but we survived. He fell asleep in the car on the way home (YAY!), transferred easily but was still awake and ready for the day at 5:30 (ugh). He woke up happy enough, though, so here's hoping. It's swimming and play day so I suspect he'll have an early-ish night tonight and will crash (here's hoping, anyway!).

Tea, how was Girl Scout camp?

teafortwo · 18/06/2014 11:16

It was truly awesome and way ta go.... We loved it soooo much.... 100percent good vibes it is totally glamping though! I am in a funk today.... lots going on.... blaaaaaaah !!!!! Practical stuff that has emotional consequences.... I was doing ok until the tipping point. The tipping point was that my parents are moving to be closer to my sister five hrs away from their current home - the home I still have a bedroom in and grew up in. Lovely for them but.... Milk and I have VERY strong roots in their village too so I wailed down the phone when they told me VERY aware that I was crying like a spoilt brat. They were truly surprised that I was so upset by it. Why are you upset? You can tell us, they said but the feelings had come before the words and it took me another three hours before a comforting friend said the word 'roots' and I realized why it was hurting so much. What probably fuelled my reaction was also that I was calling to wish my Mum luck with her op today.... there is a strong chance her thyroid has rudely grown some cancer..... grrrrrrr!!!!!!! Big thumbs down for thyroids and cancer scares... I hope it is a scare..... I hope it is a scare....

teafortwo · 18/06/2014 11:24

It being camp out - was answering scouts question! Scout it sounds like you have your handsful too with toxic family stuff and an extreme sleep experimenting boy on your hands!!!!!

mistlethrush · 18/06/2014 14:56

Maud - I have Algeria so I'll join you on the bench in the backrow!

Tea - I can quite understand where you're coming from - particularly as they're moving closer to your sister. I've not driven past my parents' old house were I lived from 10 - 23 and kept a room - DS has his own 'room' when he goes to stay with them (we get the spare room which is fine!) although it has, on occasion, been borrowed for someone else and he's had to camp elsewhere - it is nice that he knows its 'his' room and has things up on the wall etc.

Lovely day again today - I was meant to be in a Hearing all day but it was adjourned as the Council submitted late evidence. Stuck in the office for the afternoon rather than out on site now though :(

teafortwo · 19/06/2014 09:15

I am feeling less suicidal about the whole thing now and even quite adjusted! I suppose the news is sinking in.... Mistle.... Sorry to hear that you are stuck in the office... but I dearly hope that it is an opportunity for you to laze around for a few hours pretending to do stuff ... but really just relaxing. Here is a song for your afternoon activity.... - !!!!

teafortwo · 19/06/2014 09:19

Oh.... ps Mums op went well and OOOOOXEEYYYYYYYYE!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY YAAAAAY YAAAAY!!!!! How is she and oxboy?

MaudantWit · 22/06/2014 21:09

I'm glad your mum's op and the Girl Scout camp went well, Tea.

Oxeye was in excellent conversational form. OxBoy (sadly for me but no doubt for his general good) was home in bed so I didn't get to see him. I still think nostalgically of the comedy caper that you and Oxeye wrote in a splendid bit of collaborative writing - I've forgotten some of the detail but I think it involved being sprung from a French prison cell!

Evening all. I seem to be having a particularly bikey week ( even by my cycling obsessed standards. Saturday and Sunday I was helping out at a cycle sportive event, tonight I took the boy MTB racing, tomorrow I have cyclocross training, wed the boy is racing again and thursday I am running an afterschool unicycle session. Saturday coming, boy is racing again.... so Maybe on friday while he is at cricket training I'll go for a little bike ride.

Cub camp - A rite of passage that boy has now passed. He loved it, hardly slept, got soooooo tired. ate random stuff, made random stuff, loved archery ( again) collected some new bruises and is besotted with all things scout. Came home yesterday afternoon , too tired almost to eat tea. woke in middle of the night and threw up... so had today off school and slept in till 10am.

Can someone pass me a fluffy blanket and a mug of hot choc, I think I need to slow down and read a boook.

Three cheers for all Cub leaders!

Scout19075 · 24/06/2014 15:19

And Brownie leaders, too, Maud. Wink

MaudantWit · 24/06/2014 16:23

And Guide leaders who are currently taking a break!

teafortwo · 25/06/2014 09:52

Our troop leader is leaving and I love her sooooo sooo soooo. I hope our new one will be as luffly. We have a co leader next year ie second in charge who has already shown signs of being a bit of an aaahherm pain.... So I hope the new leader can politely get her to sweetly shut up now and then. I was asked to lead but cannot stand the idea of not doing it well and I dont have enough time or energy on my hands to do it well at all right now.... maybe one day... sigh! Eccles is in hospital with a foreign body in her stomach.... hmmmmm.... to be operated on this morning.... GAH!!!!! I am in serious need of some good news. Is there tea in the pot? That would be VERY good news!

MaudantWit · 25/06/2014 12:12

::Pours Tea a soothing and refreshing cup of, err, tea::

UniS · 25/06/2014 12:14

Tea. The cup that cheers. I'll join you on the sofa for a cuppa.

How is Eccles Tea?

Scout19075 · 27/06/2014 13:42

Is there any fresh tea about?

How is Eccles, Tea?

SB seems to be in the middle of a non-stop growth spurt. People that see him weekly, or more frequently, keep commenting on how tall he is/how much he's grown in the previous 2/3/5 days. I took him for his haircut yesterday and afterwards not only did he look older but he looked all torso and long legs & arms.

Have made some strawberry jam and some cherry jam in the last few days and later today will make a batch of strawberry jam with dark chocolate (an experiment!). It keeps raining/threatening to rain so we're having a quiet at-home day (the first day in about two weeks) so I'm making jam, cataloguing my teaching resources, preparing stuff, and indulging SB's "please, Mommy, can I have just two more programs?" He did a lot of building (LEGO), Wedgit designs, magazine "work" and helping this morning that I really don't mind.

I went gang-busters earlier but can feel myself grinding to a halt. Someone, please give me a swift kick to keep going!

mistlethrush · 27/06/2014 16:58

There's always fresh tea available if I'm anywhere near... Usually several varieties available too.

Scout19075 · 27/06/2014 17:13

I'm boring, I like regular tea. Though very happy to drink unlimited amount of green tea lemonade from Starbucks. I drink a ridiculous amount of iced tea.

SB has been planning his birthday type of party, decorations, games and gifts for only his next (fifth) birthday (which isn't until October half term) but all the details for his sixth birthday in October 2015. Give me strength.

mistlethrush · 27/06/2014 17:20

We're having MC's birthday treat tomorrow (only 2.5 months late Blush)

Scout19075 · 27/06/2014 17:36

Something fun, MT?
